Marvel vs Capcom: very light hearted with catchy music.
Capcom vs SNK: very serious with hardcore music
This game was a dream come true for me when it first came out. As a massive fan of both SNK and Capcom is was beyond amazing to see them come together. The aesthetic was just so beautiful.
They redrew the whole SNK cast but god save them from ever updating Morrigan's sprites.
She looks so out of place what a shame
Stroggoii IKR! Exactly my reaction the 1st time I saw it - smh -
They should have redrawn everyone on the Capcom side and not just Ryu, Ken and Gouki; smh.
@@AfroSamurai215 You forgot M.Bison/Vega.
@@Saruman38 Also Chun, Yun, Maki, and Eagle,
The dream would be a second sequel to this franchise.
@Bulgarian Daniel
What makes it worse is the fact that Bandai Namco "kinda" did that twice. once with Tekken 7, and recently in Smash Ultimate.
SvC Chaos is the 3rd no?
With sprites or 2d looking 3D models like arc
@@Steve_Austin_BionicMan different games with different mechanics
@@EugenetheSupporter Same Companies so...
We need a Capcom v. Snk 3
We kinda did. For the Neo Geo (and not pocket).
Hopefully with hand drawn sprites or cell shaded 3d models like the new Guilty Gear
Way looooooooooooooong over due
@@stanleyteriaca2184 no way lol. Are you talking about chaos?
@@suppaman12 Know of any other Capcom game for the Neo Geo?
The amount of games both companies dropped in the 90s is insane. And this was only 2 years after Alpha 3 and kof 98. I guess time moved slower back then.
I'm probably the only person who remembers this, but I spent a fortune on a machine on Namco arcade at Westminster in Central London around 2002. They had a capcom vs snk machine with a huge projection screen. It must have been a 70 foot square screen or something (or it seemed like it). One day it disappeared and my world was shattered.
YESSSSSSSS! So happy that you’re doing the SNK/Capcom Cross over. Definitely got a like from me :) can’t wait to see what more content you produce.
This is my favorite of all of the "VS" series Capcom games. I still have my original Copy for the Dreamcast, and play it regularly! Great vid!
The start up to this game is so hype I've probably watched it 20x on YT! When I heard this was coming out I imported it and my first fightstick from Lik-Sang. Great memories indeed!
At the time it seemed so impossible for Capcom to team up with SNK. Probably akin to Mario and Sonic being in the same game, Nintendo and Sega working together.
The first Capcom vs SNK has arguably the better soundtrack, but the second installment has the better gameplay.
huh? the music in CVS2 are gold.
I can't agree. "True Love Making" was life.
@@cheetahspirit8812 I grew up with Capcom VS SNK 1, and didn't play the second until well into my 30's. The music in 2 never really spoke to me like 1. Hence my love for the gameplay of 2, but the music of 1.
I used to love the lyrics 'I kick more rhymes then Michael Jordan'
@@DrumNbassSets the character select screen music for CVSNK1 is something I could listen to on repeat throughout my workout routine.
This game got me back into gaming, bought a dreamcast for this. It had been a dream of mine for many years
Still waiting on the Tekken version of Tekken X street fighter
Xtra Ordinary me too
Me 3 but we got Akuma in Tekken 7 so there's that. Yay.
It has Geese in it too so it's actually the best figuring mash-up of all time Namco Vs Capcom Vs SNK.
@referral madness Doa is way cheaper than tekken. If it did happen, expect a slower doa character. yay.
I always thought that since Street fighter x tekken did so bad that they decided against it.
As a fan of both companies, seeing this game dropped my jaw to the floor when it came out. I actually have a Capcom Vs SNK Compilation right now for the Dreamcast that has all 3 games on 1 disc. Pretty cool actually. I do love CvS2 better though because of the gameplay.
Bro I got the same collection 😂 I gotta say the first game and the pro version are my faves. The second game is great but I wish it had "more"
The first time I played this game was at the Metreon in San Francisco. My aunt had taken my cousin and I to see the movie "Red Planet" and this game was placed near the Theater entrance. My 9 year old mind was so blown I couldn't decide which character to choose. The game ended up choosing Evil Ryu for me because I took too long. Felt like a badass tearing through teams of 4 with 1 character.
This game was amazing (I still own) and I really love the visual design of Akuma in this one. His expression of power was so cool. He had a haze effect when not even trying and had a haze + energy expression when he did try. Pure awesome.
What's crazy is how they made the same game in their own styles making them completely different games when games creators actually gave a damn about quality and taking chances. Still the best era in terms of life and creativity
Every Thursaday without fail we're *treated* to excellent content. One of the few channels I'm subbed to where my age is strength and not a liability.
I still play this game on my PS1 in a weekly basis. It's one of the best fighting games on the console!! Thx for the video!! Keep up!!
I wished I had it on ps1
@@nwosyxx9774 I got my complete physical copy 3-4 years ago on E-bay. You should check there for an available copy. Totally worth it!!
@@ppgranja3 only problem I have is that many of capcom's fighting games on ps1 are on the 50 dollar mark
as both SF and KOF player, it was a dream came true. and the gameplay was not disappointing at all, it's very fun to play. the pro version made all characters more balance, but sadly only 2 characters added, should at least given 8.
I've always like Capcom Vs. SNK more then Marvel Vs. Capcom.
@shawnrosado Agreed.
Same here, tighter and more precise. I quite like MV vs Capcom but it's a bit too chaotic for me.
Alot of ppl agree here
After it came out yeah
@@eldoctoremad What about SNK vs Capcom Chaos??
ive been a fan of SNK fighting games since 93 or 1994 and the first SNK fighting game I played was Fatal Fury Special!! When Capcom vs SNK was first announced, I practically creamed my pants!! i was so excited and during the first week away from it being released I had bad insomnia and had to see Dr to prescribe a sleeping med!! seriously!! I also bought my friends Neo-geo arcade cabinate with 4 games on it!! He used to own an arcade but when the arcades started dying, he sold his machine to me!!
Have so many fond memories of these games
Capcom vs snk always felt more grounded than mvc but at this point I'd rather snk vs aryks due to how crazy they could make it.
Snk Vs arksys ..........
*YES!*
I really like when you made the AVGN yeaahhh @1:20
Top Hat, great job again. If it hasn't already been suggested please cover SVC Chaos. I only rented that game once and absolutely enjoyed it. Sadly, I never played it again because I didn't own an Xbox(my cousin did). Thanks again for another great vid!
Around the original release date of the PS1 conversion, the moment I saw the PS1 copy of this game available at a game store, I grabbed it enthusiastically in a heartbeat! I believe it was my last game for PS1, my VERY SWEET LAST GAME! Almost bought a Dreamcast at the time, but then PS2 was already in the horizon, so you know what happened next. Finally bought a Dreamcast almost 10 years ago if I remember correctly just because of how I missed the original SF III, also SF III 2nd Impact, & also VF 3 so much. Well, now I also have a copy of SF 30th Anniversary Collection for my PS4, of course! 😁
I remember my mom walking into a pizza shop I use to hang out at that had arcades in the back. I was playing capcom vs snk but was suppose to be at school. Decided to take 2 extra classes off.
I love this game, one of my all time favorite fighters. I have the Japanese versions of CvS 1 and 2 on Dreamcast and they both hold up extremely well today.
Sweet roster, excellent music, and each stage had personality. Love it
I remember reading about the game in a magazine... it was literally a dream come true, a few months later I had the game on PlayStation... and I loved every part of it, I knew it was a crappy port, but did not care, I played all the time... and still play it occasionally... Thanks for the video.
I swear back in this era Capcom knew how to entice it's audience with those great introductions! I do feel sad that there is no vs SNK 3 yet!
This game had such a weird fluctuation in quality. Like, why doesn’t Morrigan get a new sprite when everyone else did?
actually Chun li sprite was reused in both one and 2
@@nappokaikai
Didn't Chun had an update in Capcom vs SNK 2 with sprite
@@juansariles yeah but it was 3rd strike's
@@nappokaikai
I think the model is actually completely different it looks similar but if you look again is different but not by much.
If you look close enough she wasn't the only one without a remaded sprite, Sagat, Dhalsim, Sakura, Bison and pretty much every Street Fighter besides the Shotos and Chun-Li were using the alpha sprites, it's just that Morrigan's has been without changes for a long LONG while and it's the most obvious
Friday November 10th 2000, is when I purchased both Jet Grind Radio, and the PHENOMENAL CAPCOM VS SNK. My 16 year old mind was system overload BLOWN, when I first saw the intro, and the in game fights. I was incredulous, and thought it was a Dream, but it was real. This and “Project Justice” are my favorite Dreamcast fighting games, and boy did Dreamcast have an abundance of fighters. Loved this video, it made me feel very nostalgic as I’m a 35 year old now. LOLZ!!!! I would love to see a new installment, that would make my day.
I had totally forgotten that CVS had the ratio system. This video really brings me back 😀. Thank you for covering this one.
Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Great video! I can't wait for your video on Capcom vs SNK 2, probably my favorite fighter of all time.
You gonna cover vs tatsunoko too? Plz
Yattaman fan here (yatterman)
SNK reused the female sprites for SNK gals fighters that's somehow the precursor to SNK heroines
Yes!
I liked the live action movie but I wanna watch the original anime
@@ikagura the original is from the 60's, i recomend to see a few of the originals and then see the reboot of the 2000's and the spinoff "yoru no yattaman" that wrap all up
Yattaman was cool but I was super pumped for Tekkaman, Blade and GATCHAMAN!
This was easily one of My favorite WII games! Would love to see a sequel, on all three major consoles! :D (Undrated Game) imho
We need this at ps store!
Got these on the Dreamcast wish they released it on today's platforms
Damn ... I remember my pocket neogio . I used to have a game that was about putting robots together and you fought other robots . Can’t remember it but I remember it .
Hey brother, love all of your VS. videos. Been looking for a while for someone to cover them and luckily I found your channel. You're doing God’s work. Would love for you to keep covering the VS. series to include SNK vs Capcom. Thank you!
Already made that very video. Debuts on the channel this Sunday.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel Looking forward to watching it!
These fight game history videos have been truly amazing. All vids need more smug face hardware stroking with creepy smile.
I remember 2000 when this game came out.... i was 13 years and this game in the arcades was my life. Then whn in 2007 I buyed a dying dreamcast and a copy of this game and i don't regret!! LOL
Still the best crossover game in finding game history.
Ahhh, back when they knew how to make great games - without updates and dlc to boot. Play this on a CRT and you will truly appreciate how good it looks. Honestly, the more I think about it, the Dreamcast has a better game library than the current gen consoles combined.
Even though CvS2 is the better game, I agree the pixel backgrounds in CvS1 are much better than the polygonal backgrounds of CvS2. I do wish the CvS series let you stick with just 1 character like the classic Street Fighter series rather than a 2 or 3 character team like KoF or Marvel vs Capcom.
At the end of the day though, I'm just glad this Capcom vs SNK series got made at all.
CvS1 falls short of greatness because of it's simplified combat systems, but is still very playable. CvS2 however was a big improvement.
Always enjoy playing this on the Dreamcast. Can't wait for the SVC Chaos video!
how great would it have been for CAPCOM to make a Thunder Cats, Silver Hawks, and Masters of the Universe 2D fighting game. Tons of characters and plenty of locations and music from each franchise.
Id like to see u do a history on the Fatal Fury Art of Fighting and King of Fighters
As a teenager I had a PS2 and Capcom vs SNK 2 was my favorite 2D fighting game rivaled only by Marvel vs Capcom 2. I have put a lot of hours into CVS2. I did have a Dreamcast that I bought 2nd hand after Sega had discontinued the system where I played MVC2, but it wasn't until much later, in my 30s, when I'd pick up a Japanese Dreamcast (I sold my American one after college) and play the original CVS game.
I love the way it looks, but I HATE the ratio system. As this video said, the way to win between equally skilled players was to have 4 characters. I have been playing with Chun Li and Ken since World Warriors on the SNES, so my competence with these two characters, both Ratio 2, had me winning some matches, but if I was playing a friend who was skilled with, say, Dhalsim and Cammy, both Ratio 1, they could then have 1 or 2 more characters I'd have to beat, pretty much assuring I'd lose every match.
I have to admit that I do not like the way CVS2 looks with it's 3d backgrounds and CGI "hadoukens" and what not. But damn is it a MUCH better game to play. I want a version of CVS2 that looks like the original CVS. That'd be nice.
This game's backgrounds are sick as hell. Love cvs2 stages; i dont think i hate a single one but cvs's stages were just too ill.
I know it's not actually a Street fighter but will you be doing one on "Capcom Fighting Jam"? Weirdest Capcom fighting game I played but it defo had something about it.
Isn't that the super terrible one lol
CvS is actually the reason I bought a Dreamcast to begin with. This and SF3 were the 2 games I really wanted to play when they came out, and I bought the console for them. They were my first internet buys, not too long after they came out (on a still very young Amazon, which wasn't a trusted thing yet). And THEN I bought the console.
My favorite fighting game of all time.
It is one of the most played fighting game in my country.
2 vs 2 is common and Capcom introducing something new with the Ratio System was a good move for me.
I like these videos. It's important to see what goes on behind how our favorite games were made.
This was historical when this dropped.
Due to CvS Pro on PS1, Capcom used its third licence for SNK characters, meaning they wouldn't be able to make Capcom vs SNK 3.
At least, that's what I remember hearing.
Pro also came out on dc aswel in Japan
Good one top hat always loved the capcom vs series played them all even the on going realeases to this day. Alwaus feel smarter walking away from your vids and get a great deal of joy from them.
In High school I spent 5$ on a dreamcast game. I purchased it from a friend but when I look at the game disk it was written in a sharpie that said capcom vs SNK. I tought I got scam but cuz of piracy an all but when I Bbn played it to was the best DreamCast game ever.. I miss those days thanks for bringing this video..
I have the PS1 version as I don't have a Dreamcast, but I just LOVE the game. Cause I'm a big fan of both SF and SNK
I'd personally enjoy a deep dive into the SNK fighting series that led up to KoF and KoF itself.
Love this game. One of the best fighting games I’ve ever played.
OH MY GOD when this game launched it changed everything.
Up till then I'd dominate at Fatal Fury or KOF and everyone would say "If this was Street Fighter I'd whip your ass."
Once I got CvS on Dreamcast and later CvS2 on PS2 I could immediately reach over and be like "Put up or shut up! No excuses now!!!"
Me and my 6 year old daughter playing Cap Vs SNK 2 on the PS3. I enjoyed Capcom Vs SNK Pro on the PS1
If they ever make a part 3 they gotta keep Morrigan's old 94 sprite character design out of tradition
That was the 90´s Fighting game fan´s wet dream, now is common to see crossovers in the fighting genre or guest fighters from another game but in 2000 Capcom VS SNK was the fact that the inconceivable was possible and fucking actually playable peace of a wet dream made a reallity. Awesome video, Can´t wait for part II with the best 2D fighting game of the 128 bits gen: Capcom VS SNK 2
Loving your series on these fighting games! 🦄🦄🦄
I had Pro on the PSX and while I definitely noticed the downgrade in graphics and animations, it was overall an excellent fighter and provider many hours of buttkicking fun. Not to mention the fun of tweaking my own characters using the editor to modify colors and appearance.
you just brought me back with nostalgia, thank you
Awesome video and awesome channel, can you do a history of the Rival Schools games? That would be cool. Thanks!
I want another capcom vs snk man
Got a fight stick ..can't wait to play all these games soon with it !
Some of the Street Fighter sprites were actually new exclusive sprites for this series, but most of them were taken from the Alpha series and yes you pronounced Iori correctly but not Ryu. LOL!
🤞🏽🤞🏽fingers crossed that a part 3 will come out, but with the old school character sprites and 3-d backgrounds like cap vs snk 2👏🏽👏🏽
This was such a great game. Sad the series died. Soundtrack was awful in both Capcom CvS games, though. And Leona never appeared in any of these, which baffles me.
I know you foretold it already, but the SNK-produced crossover games with Capcom need to be covered soon.
Well you shall get your wish Monday and the first of those videos has been produced and is already available to Patrons.
Svc chaos was awesome!
Love the OST and the select charater screen
Do a review of the game that started the collaboration of Marvel and Capcom... Xmen Children of the Atom.
Already working on them!
Great Video! I would love a video in the future detailing the absolute garbage that was SNK Vs Capcom Chaos - one of the biggest let downs in fighting game history.
I loved this game I played it all the time against my friends on PlayStation. I didn't care if it had any differences and I probably got after it came out. I think I got it around 2003 or 2004 lol
The best intro sequence 🙌🏾
it'll be great if you can cover the king of fighters series, or even selected neogeo titles
Isn't SVC Chaos the SNK version. Moreso than NGP version?
I stumbled upon this game in the sale bin, I had no idea it was even out. Best $20 I spent on a fighting game. I played that game inside out.
Flaws?? This game had NO flaws imo! Like you said bro “the best fighting game to reach our consoles”
Likely my fave fighter, part 2 for sure.... pro was one of the few games I ever went through the trouble of having boot disks burned and importing, it really made the Dreamcast worth owning along with King of Fighters, seeing as how kof 99 was the final Neo Geo CD version and I was a CD owner, it was definitely awesome to have the excellent play more ports on Dreamcast, and at the arcade this was always my go-to as well, one of the few fighting games I was actually genuinely good at too-, what a great game, even the Neo Geo Pocket color version which I also imported is just fantastic in every way chock-full of micro Games Galore I am so looking forward to watching this video ...what a great topic to pick!
Iori was my man. Hahahaha HA HA HAHAAAH!!
I didn't have this on Dreamcast, I didn't have a Dreamcast at all, so I played the PS1 version. I actually fires it up recently and I think it holds up really well
I was expecting a COMPANIES STORY on how both companies (Capcom and SNK) agreed to make this dream a complete reality. Anyway, good video.
A fitting video topic, considering who just got reunited with his Street Fighter pals in Smash Ultimate yesterday. 😉
As for my thoughts on this game, I'd say it's pretty good, but the sequel improves on it in just about every way.
I still play regularly on my DC. I wish they would have kept that Powerstone stage they showed before it came out.
I’m a huge street fighter fan and play 30th anniversary daily on the PS4. I have recently downloaded king of fighters 97 global match which has a pretty active online feature. It’s a lot different to sf but I’m slowly getting the hang of it. Brilliant game 👍
I have the Japanese version of this for my PAL Dreamcast. Reason why, it’s the only version that is VGA compatible. Both the PAL and NTSC are not. Awesome game. And I own the second game for the Xbox. Wish we still got 2D fighters like this.
Now we're talking! I love this game! Yes, the ratio system kinda sucked, but the gameplay was fantastic and those backgrounds were the best VS backgrounds by far. Unfortunately, I didn't care as much for the sequel, but that's not the subject of this video!
I had this on the game cube and its my favourite control pad as well
All I want before I die is CvS3 and a new rival schools game.
I love this game over it's sequel. It's basically Street Fighter vs King of Fighters.
I was lowkey waiting for this video
The PlayStation was never good at running 2D sprite based titles? That's funny, because Symphony of the Night absolutely spanks the Saturn's Nocturne in the Moonlight.
Symphony of the Night never ran using 2D sprites. If you recall there were many background assets in the game that were traditional 3D. Infact the whole game was made using this weird technique where they just showed one side of 3D polygons rather than regular sprites. The reason it doesn't run as well on the Saturn is because the whole game is polygon based. A strange work around to conquer the PlayStations limited sprite capabilities.
I loved the point system! I thought it was a fantastic idea
Capcom VS SNK 2 is a fantastic game. I remember the Xbox demo of the game was the full game without online
