Been here since Episode 1's reaction video, what a great series. Even though I'm an IT undergrad myself, I love the way you explain the bio stuff in the show. This is the best rewatch of Cells at Work I could've ever hoped for lol.
Hello! I am Japanese. I have seen all this story with this animation, but indeed I was really interested in what kind of reaction the doctor actually would show this animation. As a result, I found a video that translated your movie into Japanese. When I looked at it quickly, I saw your figure that explained my doubts very easily. I looked for your channel soon and registered. I do not quite understand English, but I am happy watching your videos. Please keep doing a good job.
Yipi Yayo No it isn't. In the beginning of that sentence "In Japan, it was fun because there was no movie explained like you." So, if you were add Japan again, it would be grammatically inaccurate.
*Viral Infections* are one of the most interesting concepts in Biology to me. It's like a very tactical war; Invasion and sending in double agents (Cells infected by viruses) to destroy from the inside. It's so damn cool and smart considering Viruses don't have a brain or anything, yet seem so tactical. Love your vids as always! :)
It's not that surprising, evolution creates things that work, so with the length of time viruses and cells have ben going at each other it makes sense that what has developed gives the appearance of intelligent tactics, because intelligent creatures also develop tactics that work. Still cool though.
Stupid question: does a virus, bacteria, or fungi have DNA? I've read somewhere that DNA has instructions in it that cells follow in order to do what they do. So maybe what they have is like... instinct? Virtual Intelligence?
if I remember correctly I think there's some thought or evidence that viruses were developed by bacteria ages ago as a weapon but since viruses are imperfect replicators they are subject to the process of evolution. Fun fact: the reason why mammals carry their young inside is because our line was infected with a retro-virus that prevented our eggs from being laid.. so we evolved a way around the issue.
You should check out the RUclips channel Journey to the Microcosmos if you have any interest in stuff like that. It’s absolutely brilliant. Imagine Bob Ross meets BBC nature documentaries, but about microorganisms 🦠
TheSleepysleep I would like to do that. My focus however, is Elementary Education- so I sincerely wish I can program young minds. Somebody, a teacher NEEDS TO REACT to Anime Teachers doing their jobs!
Well that explains Dendritic Cell's hat medallion and why it lives in a tree, and even that sprig in the buckle. This anime has such meticulous details but doesn't overwhelm the main points of the story with them. Simply adds to the World if you look hard enough! This is why this series you're doing is so wonderful, you're giving basic and easily consumed explanations that allow non-biology majors to enjoy this show at its full artistic scale.
After this series, please do make a reaction to the show's spin-off manga, Cells at Work Black. It takes a dark (and quite morbid) turn where the cells are working in a very unhealthy body and face very harsh challenges in doing their jobs.
It's enough to put me off smoking and alcohol for at least another year. It's (quite literally) sickening what people do to themselves without considering the effects these substances can do when consumed in excess. Ughhh...
What's up Doc! I hope you've noticed easter eggs in this anime. Like when the red blood cells have no oxygen their red clothing is darker. There are other things, but I think it's best to let you find out on your own. lol As an MA myself, you being a doctor and reviewing this anime is the greatest thing. Haha

I find the question of whether to treat the fever or not to be rather interesting. It's something I never thought about as one would typically see the fever as the problem instead of a side effect to your body trying to fix the actual problem.
Yeah, you don't often think about it that way. I kinda thought the fever was caused directly by the virus and not to fight it. Knowing that's what the fever's there for, I'd probably actually prefer to keep the fever. If you're an adult - and not someone with a weak health in general - it shouldn't be that hard to deal with a fever. After all, you turn in sick from work when you get the flu, so you just have to lie on your couch and make sure to drink a lot of water/tea/juice/etc. to keep hydrated. If it helps slow down the virus a fever might actually mean that you'll get back on your feet faster?
It's also kinda like when you have a fracture or injury and one of the body's first response is inflammation which promotes healing to the injured site. And it also has the interesting question on whether inflammation should be reduced by using medication and ice packs. I think that in very severe cases where inflammation may damage surrounding muscle and nerves is when I think medication should be used. So I think it's quite and interesting question. ^.^
Well please do longer! I prefer hearing your teachings. More in depth. Really enjoyable. I love biology and your explaination feels sort of first love all over again! I would turn on yours and just listen whilst sketching on my desk ❤❤❤

I just realized that Macrophages wear a maid's uniform, colored white. Because they clean up dead things in the body, and carry a hatchet, a simple but effective weapon.
That shot of her from above is actually some really smart cinematography. Shot in the Dark but her dress seems to be her cytoplasm while her head is her nucleus. In comparison to other cells, macrophages have far more cytoplasm in comparison to their nucleus than their white blood cell cousins.
The Macrophage carries a hatchet, while other immune cells carry knives, because macrophages are large ("macro") enough to kill multiple pathogens at a time, while others are only able to kill one at a time.

You need a doctor's degree and at least some work experience in order to have a final-tier position in the medical field. This particular field is notorious for being pricey, lengthy, and rigorous even before a doctorate's program. Thus, one should only major in it with genuine passion and interest, not merely on a whim. I believe Jonathan believed OP was thinking on a whim, which could prove to be a costly mistake in money and time. I took 3 years of medical in high school for EMT myself and decided to switch because memorizing 500 root words and other medical symbols/jargon as a "small warmup" of what's to come just wasn't worth it for me.
it's tough as you basically have to know everything. But it's fine if you love it. A piece of advice if you really want to pursue medical career, be strong and never give up. It can be stressful and busy and sometimes you'll be scolded (the doctors can be very strict to their students). You have lesser vacations too. But if you enjoy it, everything will be fine.

Mar Nitsuga No, u r not the only one. Haha
Same! I'm really hoping he makes a long episode for it too.
30 minutes or more would be great!
Mar Nitsuga cancer cell is kinda depressing
I WISH IF THEY COULD MAKE ONE TO HIV TOO
One detail I love is how, any time the problem is one of the body's own cells gone bad, Neutrophil U-1146 is shown doing a Shinto prayer for the dead.
Doc, I'm actually cool with you making a separate video where you can do an in-depth explanation about all the things that you're holding back in this ep! I'm really interested if you can do one!
Me too!! I would be interested!!

Please do make vid of it too!!
Been here since Episode 1's reaction video, what a great series. Even though I'm an IT undergrad myself, I love the way you explain the bio stuff in the show. This is the best rewatch of Cells at Work I could've ever hoped for lol.
i know right I keep smiling and laughing and
"IT undergrad", lol, *highfive
Can you share where the video translation to Japanese is? Is it on ニコニコ動画? I always hear about it but I don't know where to look.

Narumo LuckyCarrot Thank you. I understood the meaning of the question with your comment. I think that you can search ニコニコ動画 for IDs in his comments.
Glad I could help :)

I am a Japanese who likes cells that work. Your video is clear and amazing. In Japan, it was fun because there was no movie explained like you.
Slight correction. "It is fun because there was no movie explained like you in Japan."
Yipi Yayo
No it isn't.
In the beginning of that sentence "In Japan, it was fun because there was no movie explained like you."
So, if you were add Japan again, it would be grammatically inaccurate.
He is a movie
@@zeenalyounsi8844 yeah, it's actually "it was fun because there was no movie explained like you did" or similar

I've never enjoyed a biology class before. Now i do
Same, it's really informative
Indeed
Yep. Dreaded bio when I was in school, but this doctor seems to make it extremely interesting
same. this guy should've been my teacher. school would've been way more interesting that way
If my HS Biology teacher was not so boring I would of never skipped her class
*Viral Infections* are one of the most interesting concepts in Biology to me. It's like a very tactical war; Invasion and sending in double agents (Cells infected by viruses) to destroy from the inside. It's so damn cool and smart considering Viruses don't have a brain or anything, yet seem so tactical.
Love your vids as always! :)
Genetic molecules are mind-boggling.
@@rolandaustria7926 Viruses are kinda like machines. They have a set of genetic instructions and they follow it. Its that simple.
if I remember correctly I think there's some thought or evidence that viruses were developed by bacteria ages ago as a weapon but since viruses are imperfect replicators they are subject to the process of evolution.
Fun fact: the reason why mammals carry their young inside is because our line was infected with a retro-virus that prevented our eggs from being laid.. so we evolved a way around the issue.
Imagine being the first person to see microorganisms. "I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at, but this shit is wild!"

Its a nice and cute reference to the 'branched' shape
AHAHAHAHAH you are everywhere
Welcome back mustacho
Just Some Guy with a Mustache basically you pop up where ever anime comes up, even if it is boring science 😆
kita!
Watched Cells at work, and now I'm watching this guy watch cells at work
same lol
After this series, please do make a reaction to the show's spin-off manga, Cells at Work Black. It takes a dark (and quite morbid) turn where the cells are working in a very unhealthy body and face very harsh challenges in doing their jobs.
It was so dark and depressing but it became so good.
as someone with chronic health issues, sign me the f up for THAT one
It's enough to put me off smoking and alcohol for at least another year. It's (quite literally) sickening what people do to themselves without considering the effects these substances can do when consumed in excess. Ughhh...

What's up Doc! I hope you've noticed easter eggs in this anime. Like when the red blood cells have no oxygen their red clothing is darker. There are other things, but I think it's best to let you find out on your own. lol
As an MA myself, you being a doctor and reviewing this anime is the greatest thing. Haha
I'm gonna try and find them all!
wait I never noticed that the red blood cells had darker clothes without oxygen >.> guess I need to rewatch it all and make sure I see everything kappa
@@biffnotsotannen1462 Yeah, watch for the little details. Like the fact that the platelets are kids. He did explain why they're kids last video. But if you actually know the details about platelets, you'll realize why you never see any teen/adult platelets ;-; again, the little details. Haha
Dr Hope's Sick Notes have fun and keep your eyes peeled. And keep tiny details in mind. Never know when that lost boot will come into play later.
It's technically not that their clothes turns darker (in the context of the show at least). Their jackets are reversible.
Can't wait til you get to the Cancer episode doc! My favorite of all and I think you'll love it as well.

On the one hand, as a teacher, am pleased as punch that that so many biology classes are jumping on this series as a teaching tool to make learning more fun and engaging.
On the other hand, as a MATH teacher, I'm a little perturbed that Biology is SUDDENLY everyone's favorite class now that they get to watch Anime for their freaking lecture.

Katie Leffler too bad, this anime just debuted last Summer (in Japan) of this year.. 😥
Well, the anime too, of course. But I was referencing to Dr. Hope in general because all of his videos are neat
I love the timing so much. Literally when Cells At Work finished airing I just started college. I go to a science college so literally everything here is important to my education XD.
My favourite part is when the lecturer talked about how "Neutrophils would hunt down pathogens as if they have nothing else to do" then all the weebs in my class just started laughing like crazy...
Then she told us that white blood cells often die while fighting an infection and we were like:
Oh. ._.
But I already know platelets die in less than ten days so my broken heart can't be damaged any further T.T

The thing I like about this series is the fact that you don't stray from what your channel is about. You react and at the same time teach biology in simple terms. I have learned so much and remember it compared to taking a whole year of it in my sophomore year. I'm also glad you are enjoying it and not just milking this series.

1:18 I think the shoe falling off is just showing how the white blood cell's ability to transmigrate. They can slip through even the narrowest cracks. That's why the shoe got stuck. It's so quirky.

Anime is basically Japanese cartoon
@@BmacSoundsLab anime is 2d animation therefore it is also cartoons. It's just a sub genre that can stand on its own enough that people can forget that fact.
Even cartoons can teach you anything. Remember Dora the Explorer? it help me learn Spanish better back when I was 5 years old. LOL
More like cartoon is a sub genre of animation. Cartoons are typically associated with a very different distinct style that is more focused on the younger population. What you say is only true for Japan, outside Japan anime refers to a very specific style made by the Japanese.

Eyyy
-hifives-
I just realized that Macrophages wear a maid's uniform, colored white. Because they clean up dead things in the body, and carry a hatchet, a simple but effective weapon.
They carry different weapons, there was even one weilding a pink suitcase
That shot of her from above is actually some really smart cinematography. Shot in the Dark but her dress seems to be her cytoplasm while her head is her nucleus. In comparison to other cells, macrophages have far more cytoplasm in comparison to their nucleus than their white blood cell cousins.
The Macrophage carries a hatchet, while other immune cells carry knives, because macrophages are large ("macro") enough to kill multiple pathogens at a time, while others are only able to kill one at a time.
I would be completely okay with the video being longer than the actual episode.
GamerGodLink honestly same. I love how much insight the Doctor gives the series. It’s fascinating!

No, don't XD
What the hell do you mean no don't? Don't stop someone from pursuing their dreams.
@@cardinal3353 Ah, yes. I'm sure some random person on the internet will stop him from pursuing his dream.
