Thank you very much for this video, Mr. Villegas. For years I’ve made alterations at the sleevehead that always messed up the way my jackets hang. It never occurred to me that there might be a better way than removing the entire sleeve and taking in the fabric there, but thanks to this video I’ve just taken half an inch off the shoulders of an otherwise perfect Raffaele Caruso blazer. I really appreciate you taking the time to pass on your expertise :)

FYI - Mr. Villegas was personal tailor to President Lyndon Johnson, many luminaries too numerous to mention.and many, many others who had no claim to fame but who appreciated his artistry in cloth.

Eddie thank you so much. I’ve looked at Lots of videos on how to do this and I always. Wondered why their method shortened and miss shaped the arm. Your method makes sense and I’m going to follow your method.
Don’t worry about how long it takes you to explain the steps. That’s the beauty of RUclips is that we can “rewind any buts that we didn’t quite understand and fast forward on steps we get.
PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS. RUclips is a fantastic place to learn new skills from real life experts like you.

Hey Mr Eddie, Sure would like to see more videos of your tailoring techniques. Slimming/tapering coat sleeves and pant legs. Taking in the coat to fit tighter, etc. I can sew, I just sew upholstery, which is a lot more forgiving. Thank you for the videos you've posted.

I've been researching how to do this, and I'm going to be using your technique. Thank you for sharing! I would like to see more videos. Perhaps one on how to take-in the sides of a suit coat?

Wow what a master . Please sir share how to fit a sleeve head roll. Also what type of fabric to use for the head roll . If possible talk about shoulder pad please. Thank you so much for sharing sir . What a delight to view your video!!! 🥰

I assume that you can avoid the head roll by compensating the 1 inch by taking away some of the back where it meets the collar. I see no other option. I have tried to learn from several other videos but I can't find the best technique yet.
      P.S. I know I'm replying after 2years. Better late than never :P

thank you so much for sharing. i want to know if you can make a video where you shorten a sleeve from the shoulder and not the bottom of the sleeve to keep the original buttonholes. thank you so much.

Great technique and efficient too! Can you use this same method to shorten the sleeve from the cap?

thank you so much for a brilliant video. I have one question -
What if the arm hole becomes bigger that the sleeve when you cut it away? how do you fit the sleeve back into the garment? I have to cut the shoulder in by 4 cm which is making the new circumference 2 cm bigger than the sleeve head
    thank you

I'm having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?

    • @zeroth404

I see excess fabric gathering a bit on the back panel as well, at the end of the video after he is gone...

    • @chungtu5912

for me I think if you have to cut 4cm off it means the jacket is way too big for an alteration, it wouldn't make sense in terms of the nature of sizing.
