    I love this method and your tutorial was so helpful! It worked like a dream and was much less labor intensive and quick. Thank you!

    This is a great and very comprehensive tutorial! This will help me a lot with doing my own suits. Any chance that you’ll be posting that video on hemming suit jackets with a vent soon? Again, thank you for the video!

    Thank you so much, I'm a newish tailor ( I've been sewing for years as a hobby but now it's my full time job) I work alone so I'm always learning as I go, I have to shorten a coat and my manager 🙄 instead of sending it out to get done he just figured I can figure it out and it's due in less than a week ( thanks bud) I was kinda freaking out and couldn't find a video but this came up and it's a life saver. I feel way more confident of pulling it off. The coat has side vents so it may be a little more tricky but I'll figure it out

    Quite good. I was concerned that you did not mention balance when shortening a man's jacket and the limitations to how much you can shorten it with respect to the position of the pockets ?! Shortening more than 2" on most jackets would most likely distort the overall balance don't you think? or does it depend on something else?

      @john vonburg you sew the bottom together from the inside out and then flip the jacket inside out And hand sew the lining up then it’s done

    Thank you for this lesson. I followed your directions and it turned out perfect and I understood what I had done. Would you please consider doing more alterations videos. I’m on to taking up sleeves in a lined blazer. I’ve got a book to help me but not as good as you. Thank you again.

    This was a very informative vid! Thank you! Question though, why can't you just trace the new seam from inside the jacket along with the curve?

    • @AmyNicoleStudio
      @AmyNicoleStudio  5 лет назад

      I like to do it from the outside because you get a better idea of the finished edge when tracing the sharp curve of the original hem! (also this is just the way I was taught - I'm sure there are other techniques to follow!)

    Just what I need , but clearly , I would be cutting on Goodwill or DAV suit coats for $ 3. 48 a piece for practice . You mention vented jackets ; single or double vented ? Waiting for for next videos .

    Just realized i am a 46 Short and I have been buying 46 R. Ugh! I did not know that as Chest size increases so does the length of the jacket. At least now I know that it is possible to shorten my jackets! Thanks for posting. How much do you think a tailor or seamstress should charge?

    • @AmyNicoleStudio
      @AmyNicoleStudio  3 года назад

      I would typically charge around $45 for this service

    Wouldn't this make the pocket on the jacket look alot lower then it is? weird?

    • @AmyNicoleStudio
      @AmyNicoleStudio  2 года назад +1

      It will, but you typically are not taking so much off the bottom that it’s noticeable or odd looking.

    • @dthao227
      @dthao227 2 года назад

      @@AmyNicoleStudio Would tailors be able to shorten it from the top? to prevent the pocket from looking to low?

    • @AmyNicoleStudio
      @AmyNicoleStudio  2 года назад +1

      If you take it to a shop the tailor will do the same method here. There’s no way of shortening the jacket and keeping the pocket distance from the bottom.

      Sage Preaumx I don’t remember off the top of my head but I think it was 1 1/4”?
