  • How to shorten the sleeve of a Suit Jacket. There is more than one way to shorten the sleeve of a suit jacket, but I find this method the easiest. You don't have to remove all the buttons, flip it inside out, and then put all of that back together again.

    Wow, this is amazing!!
    My nearby tailor said she can't do it unless she needs to rip off all lining to adjust the sleeves.
    Now I see otherwise.

    OMG.... Angela thank you soooooo much. My first time hemming a mans coat with that vent on the sleeve. I could see it was taking some of the bulk away with that little angled point from the vent to the hem. I watched that part of your video about 5 times , but I figured it out, thank you !!! I was struggling with this for hours. I knew it needed to be pinched but couldn't get it, until I watched your video. WOW. debbie

    At work we double the thread in the sewing needle that way we only have to go in one time two at the most...but once becomes four and two becomes 8

    Thanks a lot mam for the vedio. I am thinking to open my own alteration shop but i m not confident with the jacket. Can you pls make a vedio on how to shorten jacket sleeve around 2.5 or 3 inch n move the button hole as well on the sawing machine.
    Thank you

    • @AngelaWoolsey
      @AngelaWoolsey  4 года назад

      Unfortunately, you can't move the buttonholes if they're functioning buttonhole (if they've been cut open) You'd have to make the fold between two buttonholes and just add the buttons back on the sleeve, equally spaced with the others.

    Sorry if i missed it somewhere in the video, but is there a max that you can only take in? I noticed that i have to shorten it quite a bit but it then leave me with a short and stubby looking 2.5 inch vent

    • @AngelaWoolsey
      @AngelaWoolsey  2 года назад

      I’ve shortened a sleeve enough to leave very little vent left. You can just sew the buttons back on so that you see the vent flap at the end of the sleeve. Most people won’t notice that the vent doesn’t go up the length of the buttons.

    Hi Angela , I like your channel. Do you also have a video on how to taper a Men’s suit jacket sleeve ? If you do, that would be great. Much thanks. Keep up your good work.

    • @AngelaWoolsey
      @AngelaWoolsey  4 года назад

      I don’t. Are you wanting to taper all the way down through the cuff or just the arm portion?

    • @danielmok2438
      @danielmok2438 4 года назад

      Angela Woolsey , I am fairly new in making alteration myself. I am considering to slim down the suit jacket sleeve by about half an inch from the upper arm portion leading to the elbow area. Would appreciate any good advice. Also, I would like to know the technique to do similar to the cuff area. Hence if you have a video on this, that would be fantastic. Cheers.

    Hello, perhaps you can advise me on a problem I have had a few times. The top vent is not sitting flat on the bottom vent. There is a fold of material about 1 cm next to the 3rd button up from the cuff. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to fix it?
    Thank you for any help you can offer

    • @AngelaWoolsey
      @AngelaWoolsey  2 года назад

      If I understand the problem correctly, it has to do with the fold of the top vent. In the video, the time stamp would be 13:16. I'm thinking it has to do with either
      1. Maybe you left too much fabric in the hem. I leave about 2" from the new hem length. or
      2. The angle at which you folded it, needs to be adjusted. You can move that fabric a little further away from the vent fold. I hope this makes sense. When I moved to the east coast, I got rid of a lot of the stuff I used for my sewing tutorials and haven't been able to replace them yet. Let me know if this helps.

    • @relaxrelax981
      @relaxrelax981 2 года назад

      I think you are right. Maybe the new hem isn't exactly straight and it's mitre width is wider that the other side of the cuff. The mitre looks straight and initially the top vent sat well. I had to restitch the underarm seam and it isn't perfect but I don't think that would affect and cause this problem.

    How would you shorten the suit sleeve 2 or more inches? It requires taking off all of the buttons and taking apart the overlap/flap completely and remaking it. I could use a little help with this. Thanks.

    • @AngelaWoolsey
      @AngelaWoolsey  3 года назад

      Once you remove enough of the length, you may not have enough fabric on the inside to remake the overlap/flap. You may have to just sew it straight down to the sleeve hem and sew the buttons back in place just for appearance, much like a rented tuxedo. I can try to do a quick video for that if you’d like.
