+Stephanie Pryor Very cool. I remember Larry well. Very nice guy, and a fast driver. I was always at the races back then rooting for all of the Porsche teams.
It's awesome to see what the track looked back in its young days and it's still going ever so strong today amazing. I go there for the races and drift nirvana and it never gets old. I hope to race there one day.
n1f1sniper it's an awesome track and you couldnt ask for better people to be the SCCA workers. I actually just raced there over the weekend in the American Sedan class (we run with gt1,2 and 3 cars). I had no clue these old videos existed until my Buddy put them up on the side of his trailer with a projector haha. it's extremely neat to see the track in it's old and prime days. If you've ever been to VIR, you definitely have to search for the video of them driving the track before rebuilding and reopening the track. was the exact same layout as now, but dirt tracks, and no building with trees all around. incredibly neat to see
Nice to see Don Meluzzio. Super nice guy, and excellent driver! As for Cruise, this video was another PR piece. Tom was never as good as the media and his handlers wanted the public to believe. As for his interactions with other drivers, there were none. He had his entourage shield him from other competitors!
How does the GT2 and GT3 classes work in relation to SCCA and Trans-Am? I love this style of sillhouette racing its the ultimate in saloon cars. Light weight, massive power mean looks....can't beat it!
Thanks for posting this. As a Summit Point racer it's great to see classic footage of the track.
Hayes Lewis Glad you liked it.
Tom Cruise seemed to enjoy the experience.
Jason Carpp looks like he worked hard too
Hope he did! Or else nissan wouldnt have hired him.. I think.😅
@@RobertMajors by all accounts he is the most determined and hard-working actor
Incredible footage! Never would've known that Tom raced at Summit Point, what a treat.
My Dad was in the yellow Z #40!
Sweet, my home race track. Don Beyer Volvo, seeing that banner put a smile on my face. Love Summit Point!
My grandfather is car 99
+Stephanie Pryor Wait~? Your grandpa was a car?

This was just before filming started on Days of Thunder.
Those BMW widebody kits are siiick
2:30 - music sounds just like some Sega arcade racing, brilliant. :)
I saw a video that told the history of game’s music back then that was influenced by Japanese Jazz. So yeah it sounds like game music.

I remember that.
I'm not 1% surprised that Tom Cruise spun out.
does anyone have info on the 200sx / S12 car?
What were all those people sitting around peering at the track????
I'M THROUGH IT HARRY!!!
Im dropping the hammer
Cool video. Pretty sure "1998" in the description should be "1988"...
Thank you for catching that. Much appreciated. I need an editor.
King Rose Archives another note: did he "race for Nissan" or "race a Nissan" a big difference
@@nullwii This is Paul Newman's team, not a factory team
It's a 200SX, not a 300.
Richard Dickey Thank you for the correction. Much appreciated.
U wot m8
Whut 😮
I watched the whole video hoping to see Donnie and I was disappointed.
Tom Cruise, use your scientology witchcraft!
He's not that good of a actor either....said Paul.
