  • SCREW IT! ROOF TRIM, SEALS, STAINLESS SCREWS 78 APACHE POP UP CAMPER PROJECT
    On this episode we're replacing all our rusty screws with stainless steel screws to prevent future issues with rusty, broken, and stripped screws! Hence the title "screw it". We're also painting all our peeling roof trim with Rustoleum Bed Coating for durability,and replacing the roof trim foam seals to prevent leaks.

    If the hardtop is ABS (my older Apache is) then you can 'paint' the inside of the top with new ABS. There are instructions on melting ABS drain pipe in acetone, then pain it on - this will reinforce any cracks and is way better than fiberglassing the ABS. A thin coat of new ABS 'paint' on the inside will make it like new. Then prime it (I used Zinser) 2-3 coats and put on a finish coat. Mine was falling apart but this technique made it stronger than new. I put it right over a very rough, starved fiberglass previous repair. It's bumpy but it's hidden. The outside looks brand new. It's a great way to flatten a top that is sagging and warped from the sun. Just flatten the top before painting the ABS and the new ABS will hold it flat.

    Nice video. Bedliner looks like a good product. Might use it on the step for my Apache Ranger. Thanks for your service to our country:)

    Stainless steal wont rust but it will cause the aluminum to deteriorate. Look at metal compatability chart.

      Just be careful. Im not sure what that one bolt on the lower hinge was screwed into but whatever it was its gone and I have no way to reattach it without drilling all the rivits out of the inner door to access the inside.Im probably just going to epoxy that one bolt into the hole just to seal the hole for now.

    Was talking about the paint. My door is all tore apart it had a wood core and the screw went in to one of those nuts with the teeth that bite in to the wood. like they use on furniture.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  7 лет назад

      Ohhhh a press nut? Figures. Maybe one day I'll take it apart and fix that. 😉 And yes, I love this bed coating. It's thinner and more uniform than bed lining but still gives good protection and looks nice.

      @@BadLuckGarage i was looking at buying one of these but if its more trouble then its worth i may not, can i ask what the particular issues were? Thanks

    • @BadLuckGarage

      @@merrittmcdowell8675 All the videos I made outline a lot of the issues. The biggest issue being the lack of quality replacement parts. Most of these campers are being restored for nostalgia more than actual camping duty these days and there’s a good reason for that. They’ll old, brittle, and worn out. In my opinion they just aren’t very durable either due to the fact that most of the parts are made of plastic that’s not really on par with what’s available today. If you want to watch my other videos on this camper I have them in their own playlist here. ruclips.net/p/PLnObA-smhvwPDH16nTUSaxik_oQ-keQw_
