The final part of Sofia Coppola's movie was a bit rushed, from Lisa Marie's reaction during the photo section on. The movie does not show that Priscilla had an 'accomplice', especially in California: Joanie - she played an important role in Priscilla's 'growing up'. The getting rid of the hairdos and makeup was an important sign of Priscilla's growing-up process - it should be more emphasized in the movie. Priscilla also developed a fine taste in fashion and interior decoration, which helped her build confidence in herself.
For the reasons above - true or not -, I prefer the portrait of Priscilla's and Elvis's relationship by Baz Luhrman.

    • @giannagarda7598
      @giannagarda7598 10 месяцев назад +1

After Piers Morgan's and Growing Up in Scientology's interviews - the former with PP and the later with Navarone Garcia - Sofia Coppola's film is just Sofia's interpretation of 'Elvis and Me' - which she compares to her own and her mother's experiences. The merit of 'Elvis' is that Baz Luhrmann puts it under Col. Parker's perspective - which was brilliant - because: who was Parker?

    • @saphireblue3563

Priscilla was not "growing up". She was just changing with the fashion of the times. However, wasn't it Joanne who was driving Priscilla to see Mike Stone? It seems she had it in for Elvis.

True the new Elvis movie by Baz is not 100% accurate but so what it captured the
essence of what it was really like & the way it actually was. I saw the movie 8 times in the cinema last year & later bought the DVD. I been an Elvis fan since the day he died so I know
all there is to know about Elvis long before Baz. But Elvis 2022 is still the most realistic portrait of Elvis that was ever done.
I first saw the 1979 Kurt Russell TV movie & it was good for the time but hasn't held up with age. In the book "Elvis What Happened ?" Elvis did fire Tom Parker in '72 or '73 & the colonel slapped Elvis & Vernon with a huge bill Elvis had to pay to buy the colonel out. So he took him back.
Now maybe the new Priscilla movie is more accurate but so what & who cares ???
I will not see the movie because I'm not a Priscilla fan. I don't need to see it & of course the marriage was a mistake because of Elvis' nonstop demanding career.

First you need to see the real history of the not so innocent Priscila. Or you could read "Child Bride" that's eye opener. First let me say I am near Priscilla's age, and to compare living in the 50's to todays standards is ridiculous. Girls got married early in post war 50's I was 18 and married a man 10 years older. It wasn't unheard of for 16 year olds to marry as that was the age of consent in Tennessee. Priscilla was a 14 year old Military brat, who was pretty and popular. She was actually groomed by her own parents to marry rich. As a 14 year old in Germany, she had several intimate affairs within her circle, put her parents did set her up to date a young man who was part of the Royal family of Germany. It didn't work out, but as all girls back then we were all obsessed with Elvis. She heard that Elvis friend Currie Grant would be at a military club and she went there to meet him, she begged to get to Elvis. He was married but soon embarked on a short affair with her weeks before she saw Elvis. When they did meet Elvis thought she was beautiful but soon was shipped back to the states. He went about his life, never contacting her for a year. She wrote him everyday, begging to come to Graceland. When she turned 17 her parents who thought she might marry Elvis, sent her to Graceland. She married Elvis at 21, and both had affairs. She had an affair with her dance teacher, and then she ran off with her married karate instructor. Elvis gave her everything she ask for in the divorce. But it was never enough. she kept demanding more money. In 1977 just before he died, she demanded money, and even put a lien on Graceland. He sold off his catalogue to meet her demands. After his death she went on to join the church of Scientology. she put Lisa in the cult at only 12 years old for months at a time. Lisa never trusted her again. Priscilla met boyfriend and Scientologist Marco, she has his son. They open Graceland together and she supports them on her million a year salary from Lisa's estate. He leaves her and his son. In 2017 Lisa secretly changes her will from her mother's control and puts it in daughter Riley's control. When Lisa died in January, at 54, Priscilla sees the will and is livid. She sues her own granddaughter to get control. She calls in Scientologist John Travolta to mediate for her. He gets her a million to drop the suit, 100 grand a year to advise, 1/9 of the Elvis estate for her son by Marco, and a plot near Elvis. She has lied and deceived the world, her own daughter tried to stop the making of "Priscilla" but Coppola and Priscilla ignored her. Priscilla is worth 50 million dollars because she once was married to mean old Elvis. Sick.

I find it disturbing that people don't know Priscilla was told her autobiography wasn't exciting enough by the publisher. She had to embellish it to make it more interesting, she later said she regretted embellishing certain details. Now, fast forward to over 30 years later Sofia Coppola made a film based on the embellished version of her book. This makes both works of fiction. If you're going to work off a work of fiction, at least warn people that it is not true.
The recent Elvis film was by and large fairly accurate, only a couple of details were shuffled around to suit the timeline or to include a details where they were key to the social climate of the time.
Also, Priscilla was in the 9th grade, but she was living in Germany living it up with older boyfriends, where the legal age was 14. She knew it well and used it to meet Elvis. She was a fan. Elvis already had 5 girlfriends in the army, Priscilla wasn't one of them.
At 9.52 "Elvis deep-throated a microphone...he let the intrusive thought win" I'm puzzled by this comment and why you'd put the words intrusive thoughts in there? Clearly the song, Poke Salad Annie is about a girl doing favours for money becasue the men in her family are too useless to earn money by working and she brings home the money. Elvis was a grown man, with a sense of humour, he introduced the song in the live show with "Ladies & Gentlemen, we're gonna get dirty on you..." So, the warning was clear enough, there should be no confusion on why he did that. It was within context and makes sense if you've watched all of the now released, cuts of the That's The Way It Is, film footage of 1970. You can't judge his thoughts without looking at that moment in *context. I think it was hilarious.

He did fire the colonel, tho in 1973, and the part of the colonel demanding money is also correct. And it surely had to do with Elvis taking the firing back. There are alot of talks in books and interviews with people close to him that he was ready to fire the colonel in 1977.

  • @68Pace

This was terrible...really. The Baz Luhrmann film wasn't supposed to be a typical bio-pic...it was seen through the eyes of Tom Parker while he was high on medication...it was not supposed to be a documentary, hence the mixture of Elvis tracks with modern music. In the film, as Jerry Schilling also explained, the B.B. King character was an amalgamation of the black performers that Elvis knew . As for saying that Elvis didn't know Little Richard personally...check out numerous interviews with Little Richard...he often mentions his friendship and love of Elvis "he opened the door for black entertainers". In my opinion, the "Priscilla" film had already been produced in 1988 as "Elvis and Me", a TV movie, so why remake it ? After watching Priscilla's interview with Morgan Freeman, it just seems to be another opportunity for Priscilla to promote her victim narrative, while at the same time, claiming that Elvis was the love of her life.

Wrong about Anitta Wood vs Dixie Locke... And many facts wrong about his relationship with Priscilla, Sofia Coppola just wanna to put the bad stuff, Priscilla's book had great family moments between Elvis, Cilla and Lisa, but that was not at the agenda of Sofia. After the divorce they had a incredible touching conection, that again, was not included 🤷🏻 and let's not forget that he respected her, only had sex with her after the're married (and had sex with her after they're married and not like the huge lie that he transformed woman that had babys in Madonnas)
he respected her family by going ask permission to her father just to let they keep meeting each other...why forget the moments where he was a truly gentleman, generous, kind, respectful...he got the world by the balls and choose to be a great human been, with flaws like everybody, but in the end of the day he was a great man, ask Priscilla 😉

Half of all you said is wrong. Elvis never pursued Priscilla, they just talked when they met. She then would harass him along with her family, Elvis himself called her a stalker once. And he never asked her family for permission to keep seeing her because he wasn’t interested in her. That’s why Priscilla’s family and Colonel Parker extorted him and forced him to marry her. He was found crying the night before the wedding and he said he didn’t wanted to get married, but he didn’t have a choice.

Elvis "shaped" Priscilla. Below is the definition of "grooming" from legal and psychological websites.
NSPCC defines "grooming" as "when someone builds a relationship, trust, and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit, and abuse them. Children and young people who are groomed can be sexually abused, exploited, or trafficked. Anybody can be a groomer, no matter their age, gender, or race."
According to the Psychology Center, "Sexual manipulation involves being manipulated or coerced into doing any sort of sexual activity.
Sexual manipulation can include threatening, guilt-tripping, or sulking when they’re rejected. It can also include giving you alcohol or drugs with the intention of getting you to have sex with them."
The U.S. Department of State defines the exploitation of a child as:
"Examples include child pornography, child sex trafficking, sextortion, the live streaming of child sexual abuse, and child sex tourism. Exploitation: Exploitation can be defined as the act of involving a child for economic or other reasons in criminal activities."
    And
    HHS.gov defines abuse as:
    Child Abuse and Neglect
"Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation"; or. "An act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm."
As Priscilla has pointed out, Elvis did not have congical relations with her until their wedding night.
This admission informs us that Elvis was not a groomer. He doesn't fit the definition I listed above. He shaped her. Before the sexual revolution of the late 1960s through the 1970s women were taught to listen to their men. They didn't have a say. Legally they could not have bank accounts and credit cards. If a girl didn't want to follow Elvis' rules, they were free to leave. Elvis wouldn't have stopped them. Priscilla freely left Elvis in 1972 and Linda Thompson freely left Elvis in 1976. Cybill Sheppard had to choose between Peter Bogdonavich and Elvis. It was Elvis' personal lifestyle choices that destroyed his relationships.
Jerry Lee Lewis said in an interview that he was 13 and she was 17 when he married for the first time. He then married a second time when he was 16 and she was 16, then he married his third cousin Myra when he was 22 and she was 13. Dolittle Lynn was 21 when he married a 15-year-old Loretta. Elvis started a relationship with Tempest Storm when she was 29 and he was 22. Elvis' parents were 21 and 17 when they got married. They lied on their marriage certificate because it was considered scandalous in the South for an older woman to marry a younger man.
I would call these relationships old Southern customs.
I believe this practice was acceptable because poor families had to marry off their oldest to reduce the financial hardships for the rest of the household. But if you were born into this situation, you don't take the time to be a devil's advocate and look at the practice from the outside, so some people may consider it a social norm even if they are no longer impoverished.
Some people say Elvis' dysfunction with women stemmed from the relationship he had with his mother. I believe she never recovered from the death of Jesse and she transferred the effects of that loss onto Elvis.
Adult decisions and social practices are shaped by the examples taught to them when they were children. Some adults can analyze what they experienced as children and change the negative into a positive. Most adults can't or refuse to see that what their parents and their parent's peer group did was wrong, so the bad practices continue because they refuse to see their parents as infallible.

You are right. Elvis was never a groomer. She gave an article to Vogue magazine where she stated she picked out her own clothes and hairstyles. She still can't keep track of her lies. He was comfortable with younger women and knew a lot of them. Emotionally he really never got past his teens.

Elvis only met Priscilla at 14, he saw her 4 times in a house full of people. They had no relationship becasue he was back in the US within 8 weeks of meeting her. He went back to his grown women and she wrote to him, as obsessed teen fans did.
He ghosted her for a year or so before finally feeling bad enough to call her and say Hi. He was maybe looking for a wife and she was a good candidate, young, pretty and able to have to his children. She was a frumpy girl with no style or taste, let's not forget she is hailed as a style icon of the 1960s, thanks to Elvis's style and ability to overhaul her image and pay for everything she wanted and needed. He treated her like a queen, there's a reason she never found love in her life. Nobody loved her better than Elvis, but she ruined him financially and emotionally taking his daughter away and trying to take his home at the end.
