I'm embarrassed to admit that I've worshiped Fred and Ginger since childhood, but never really watched his movies with other women. But Rita takes my breath away. She's so detailed. And those little hip swivels! Crazy! She blows him off the screen!
For the first time in my life, I've watched something that quickened my pulse and took my breath away. LITERALLY

Fred is just the best ever. Hard to take your eyes off Rita though. She’s just so glamorous. I think it’s her hair, her dancing, and the way she looks at Fred. Just a very sexy woman, and a very good dancer.
Rita Hayworth was a pleasure to watch, the epitome of what a dancer should be. I marvel at the fact that she never looked down to see what her partner's feet were doing she just danced as naturally as she breathed.

What an absolutely EXQUISITE WOMAN! She was more graceful than any of his other partners. Her arms vs, Gingers, are much more expressive and beautiful. And she had such a lovely restraint with him, she was his perfect partner in dance.
Just WOW. They are loving every second of this dance together and it shows. That's what makes dancers at the top of their game..exuding that extra emotion on top of an already flawless routine. I have watched so many dancers over many years but still haven't seen anything like this ever because there will only be one Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth💃🕺❤

I agree! Fred spent a lot of time describing his first meeting and practices with her in his autobiography, he even pulled a prank on her during rehearsals - no other partner had that privilege XD

Such a gifted dancer- and so beautiful! There's a witty ,slightly mocking quality to her exchange with Astaire at the beginning of the routine as if she doesn't take the sex goddess role too seriously. She had beauty, wit, intelligence and enormous talent, far more than the Hollywood of her day could appreciate.

I love Fred, he was a genius... But Rita makes him look like a stiff in this. It's impossible not to watch her. Fred usually stole the show, but not when Rita danced with him. She truly was from another world. Her grace, beauty, charm and natural elegance abounded with femininity. She was a goddess!

No, he doesn’t even look stiff while dancing with Rita Hayworth since he has danced with other leading ladies through most of his movie career, and he was a professional dancer most of his life. Since he’s a man, he doesn’t have curves like a woman to sway or move the hips like a woman. Maybe you were just focusing too much on Rita Hayworth’s moves. She was already trained as a Spanish dancer from her father since she was a child and Hollywood trains their actors to dance and sing to this day.
@@JMarieCAlove I agree with you. Don't get me wrong, Fred was a phenomenal dancer. In my opinion, his attention to detail and technique were impeccable. I don't think he was as graceful as Gene Kelly but he was a great technical dancer, no doubt about it. He was smart in choosing graceful partners to accompany him. He had a good relationship with Rita's father Eduardo. They knew each other from the vaudeville circuit. Rita was a professionally trained Spanish dancer who came from a respected family lineage of successful dancers. The Dancing Cansinos, led by her father Eduardo, were well known and respected. In the case of Rita, she was the epitome of grace and beauty. She truly stands out in this performance. It's magical!
Digitalgr8ness- I have to agree with you about Fred looking stiff compared to Rita who seemed to have feet that never touched the floor. Rita's sensuality practically jumps off the screen.I wish the men in her life had treated her better.

@@rangersasc Her father was Spanish. He specialized in the bolero, and he was her teacher since childhood. He was the one who danced and toured with her and took her to Hollywood to get her into movies. Her mother was American, of British/Irish decent. I'm also an American of British/Irish descent, and I've never even been to Ireland, much less learned Irish dances.

Upon reflection, a major part of the magic lies in how she let the shutters of her eyes close ever so marginally one moment. Only to almost instantly adopt that subtle wide eyed look in the very next instance. It's this tool in her armoury that ensnares weak mortals like myself every time. Seeing the Astaire/Hayworth dancing talent, presented via their routines, such as the "So Near, and Yet So Far" sequence seen here---not to mention the musical/lyrical genius of artists such as Cole Poter, one can thank God---and technology---that this magic is preserved for posterity. What we have now...all that's necessary is a garbage can.
