    I saw this on TV when I was a little girl in the '70s, and ever since then, I have wished that someday I would get to see it again. I thought it was so funny. I tried describing it to all the adults and they didn't know what I was talking about. I always KNEW someday I would see it again. 50 years later, here we are! Love these two guys!!

      If you wanna see the best dance movie ever made check out Stormy Weather. Fred Astaire said so himself that it was the greatest dance routine to ever be put on film and that's coming from one of your idols. So just imagine if racism never existed you with no doubt would say that the Nicholas brothers are the best dancers to ever do it. Because of racism you say Babe Ruth but I say Josh Gibson. It's a shame that the color of a person skin downplays there contributions to American Culture.

    • @cacatr4495
      @cacatr4495 3 года назад +13

      Even Astaire and Kelly were impressed (Very!) by the Nicholas Brothers, and freely admitted that the Nicholas Bros. did things they couldn't do, that they 'outclassed' them, dance-wise. I have long appreciated the dancing talents of both Astaire and Kelly, but as far as I know, and as far as other dancers have said, the Nicholas Bros. were at the top, far greater than all other dancers. There are other videos with interviews of many professional dancers that all agree on that.

Makes me want to rent some old time musicals like this - the entertainment value, the talent, the wholesomeness, doesn't compare to today's entertainment which seems to, and often does, push and cross the boundaries of decency.

    WOW!!! These two guys are the definition of Dance. Both have impeccable footwork and timing, and they "Sync" as if they are one person. On a personal level, I think that Fred is the more elegant of the two, but this is maybe because he is slightly taller and slimmer, but this is pure entertainment, and I could watch this every day.

    • @lynncw9202
      @lynncw9202 3 года назад +5

      Now I think the opposite. Fred Astaire was a bit too stiff. Gene Kelly had more rythym and sex appeal. Both magnificent dancer akthough Fred was skinny but Gene was muscular.

    • @rebeccagilpin3245
      @rebeccagilpin3245 3 года назад +1

      What you all are seeing is Fred's classical ballet training and the brutal, ridgid mentality he, personally, took from it. He kept the grace and took the discipline so far as to never be happy with one of his routines I read somewhere. He lost his joy in his search for perfection and I think that is tragic.

    • @annamack5823
      @annamack5823 3 года назад +1

      @@lynncw9202 I'm amazed that you saw stiffness in that performance. What Astaire had over other dancers was that he could really glide. All his movements are incredibly light and smooth. Kelly looked clod-hopping in comparison (not that he *was* clod-hopping, of course - he was an amazing dancer - but just in comparison to Astaire, who was unparalleled).

    • @lynncw9202
      @lynncw9202 3 года назад

      @@annamack5823 strange how we all see differently. Fred Astaire didn't move his hips. Yes he glided but his hips were stiff. Maybe it was the times. In those days they didn't move the hips much. Maybe it was considered unseemly. 🤷

    • @annamack5823
      @annamack5823 3 года назад +2

      @@lynncw9202 It's definitely the times. That sort of movement would certainly have been considered vulgar and unacceptable in his day.
