How I Run my Dillon XL750 Progressive Press in 2024

  • It's been about 4 years since since I picked up my XL750 and "accessorized" or upgraded it. Over those 4 years some things have changed and I thought it was time to revisit or provide and updates on how I run my XL750 in 2024.
I go over what I've done to the press in the last 4 years with upgrades from various manufacturers that I've found useful as well as point out why I chose what I chose as YMMV and what I've done to my press won't necessarily appeal to everyone.
I plan on doing the same type of 2024 update for my Hornady Lock-n-Load as well as doing a comparison of the two presses given their current configurations to compare/contrast what I do/don't like about things in each press.

Only problem with my 750, is I have powder leakage, , I have the springs on my powder drop, and I guess it comes out of the case as well, more with 223 the 9mm, but you would think it would be the other way around,, and if you have solved that issue, please share, thanks

I only run Unique powder in my 750 powder drop and have never had any noticeable leakage (other than powder jumping out of the case due to shell holder movement/rotation).

I remember when Thee 750 was announced and there were high hopes it would have (7) stations. Dillon has legacy costs associated with any change in their product line. They have to provide warranty parts.
They also want you to buy their existing press with more than (5) stations. They don’t want to make a product that competes with their own premium product. This makes sense.
RCBS has had (7) stations available for awhile. Sadly the original press was just bad. I am not even sure they sell 12 each year… The bugs got worked out from what I understand.
Lee has a (6) station press now. I think this is coffin nails for the (5) station press. I doubt if Hornady or Dillon will make a (6) station press.
I noticed that the reality is a Dillon 6-750 requires a lot of aftermarket support to comfortably make 500+ per hour. The design was set up for (100) primers being used (4) times per hour. Reloading tubes and taking a brief break to stay focused. With extras many report double that output.

Agreed. Why take a chance on impacting the cash cow(s) by introducing a better/more functional design. Frankford Arsenal did it with the X-10, but I don't think they had any "cash cow" presses to begin with, so no loss as they try (and failed IMO) to gain press market share. Still have my finger crossed Hornady and or Dillon will do something more than 5 stations for their consumer lines.

Can you spell that material name

Do you mean the blue cloth? If so, it's referred to "duck" or "canvas" (I also call it duckbill). Make sure the material weight is 10 ounce (or thicker) and 100% cotton. Too much fakery/clone stuff out there. Heavy, durable stuff. Love using it on my equipment that lives in the garage.

My Dillon barely works with 223. Definitely not worth the hassle. Primer system is still difficult to run reliably.

I prefer to reload bottleneck brass on my Lee Classic Turret and straight walled brass on my progressives.

Too big (for my mobile stand or bench set up), too expensive (for my waller) and definitely too noisey (for my ears). To each their own. Enjoy my configuration and not planning on any changes.
