- Sharing Economy transactions involve a platform provider that matches two actors, a customer aiming to get access to a resource and a (peer) provider giving access to his/her resources. For many the Sharing Economy is mainly associated with the accommodation sector (e.g. Airbnb) and the individual transportation sector (e.g. Uber or Lyft). Both companies have only been founded a bit more than 10 years ago and are now global players that have disrupted their sectors. Beyond these few global players of the sharing economy, there are thousands of hidden gems of the sharing economy waiting to disrupt many more sectors, logistics, banking, education. The obvious questions are of course: Which sectors will be the next to be disrupted. And which companies are the Uber and Airbnbs of the future? Sabine's TEDx talk will investigate which sectors are likely the next to be disrupted and why. Born and educated in Germany, Sabine Benoit is now a Professor of Marketing at the University of Surrey, UK and Australian National University, (ANU), Australia. She is a highly regarded and cited pioneer in the field of the sharing economy. She started researching consumer behaviour in the sharing economy before Airbnb and Uber were founded and later disrupted various sectors. In this TEDx talk she shares her expertise, gives us an idea of which sectors might be the next to be disrupted, what is currently wrong with the sharing economy and what we need to do going forward so that it can contribute to saving the world. I went to book an airbnb this morning actually and was so surprised by how expensive it was! Just over $500 for two nights when a hotel was half that price. I get that there are benefits and why it feels nicer than a hotel but I do remember when they were the better choice financially as well.

I beg to differ, but there are lots of smaller apps that are more directed at communities. Like apps offering your neighbours your help with whatever you can, there's also clothes swapping suitcases that make their rounds... I think it is time to accept that disruption as a whole will be forced on everyone soon and we will have no choice but to band together and contribute to move forward.

I have a friend who owns multiple rental properties that he has as airbnb's and we literally call him the sIum lord because it's people like that just ruining the rental market in my city
