  • Departing from clash between conventional taxi drivers and app-based ride hailing drivers in Indonesia, Prof. Rhenald shares his ideas and findings on sharing economy. He explains that sharing economy have existed in Indonesia since 40 to 50 years ago, which is well-known as "gotong royong" (mutual cooperation), yet the gotong royong concept have began to be forgotten by the people. Prof. Kasali believe that sharing economy does more good than harm to the society, and in order to make the good happen, we need to embrace change.
Prof. Rhenald Kasali is a tenured professor of economics in Universitas Indonesia. He decided to focus on social phenomenon and founded Yayasan Rumah Perubahan, a social entrepreneurship incubator with the purpose of pushing Indonesia's vast reformation.
Prof. Kasali has just been awarded as "Global Gurus in Management 2016" by The Global Gurus Foundation. This award established him as a top-notch economist along with Philip Kotler (Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University), Clayton Christensen (Harvard Business School), and Michael Porter (Harvard) among other awardees.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Great presentation prof. Sharing economy can be incredibly low price because of the willingness of investor to burn money to grab the market share. It is still can create lower price, but will not be as much as in the beginning once the market is maturing.

Another model that involves money. It is only sustainable if it does not involve taking your tax money or taking your money and your time
Some of these models under "sharing economy" that rent something in exchange for your money is just another profitable form of capitalism in disguise. Before you give them your money, examine who they took from to start their business.
