    The problem is that so many people these days are into lure angling since the boom, most hot spots (locks) on the canals are high pressured. I've found myself heading to remote parts of canals away from people, walked over 10,000 steps the other day to catch 2 wasps and 2 Jack's. Buts that's fishing. Good to see you making videos again 😎🎣💯 tight lines 👍

    • @riverpiker

      Ayup Ian. Yeah mate that's the simple truth. If i google search around my house 5 miles i can spot loads of similar spots. I can also see lots of people living in these places and they are googling also. Not so many places to go at when we're all fishing the same spot. End of the day we're using bits of rubber and wood to trick fish and that's harder than a real bit of smelly bait.

    Good video. I used to think that in fishing some people just were ‘fated’ to catch more fish.
    Now I know that some people have a good eye for details, they think through the situation and know their fish.
    Useful video

    Honest as always! A fine example of many a perch fishers efforts on a promising looking stretch - jacks! If we could find them straight away every time, the magic of lure fishing for perch would be gone. For me, when all else fails, I reach for my collection of spinner baits.
    Good stuff as usual Paul 👍

    Good video. Shows it isn't a fish a chuck like some videos seem to show. It's been a right struggle to find the perch round there lately, even the match angles aren't getting many.

    Another great video Paul. Good to hear you saying how canals are no longer easy due to the greatly increased popularity of lure fishing. I've really struggled to pick up a fish the last couple of winters - so much so I've started fly fishing. It's a bit easier when waters are regularly stocked !

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  2 года назад +1

      Yeah Alan not like it used to be at all. Still plenty of fun to be had doing what we live doing but not as easy to keep bagging up

    • @noblestsavage1742
      @noblestsavage1742 2 года назад

      Try fly fishing the canals, not too many folk doing it so the fish haven’t wised up to fly presentations. A 7 weight trout rod is fine for small streamers for perch and jacks. And if that’s really not working try nymphs and small wet flies for wasps, roach, rudd etc. 👍

    • @alanhodgson7045
      @alanhodgson7045 2 года назад

      @@noblestsavage1742 interesting idea. Worst that can happen is that I blank - so no worse than usually happens anyway ! I was thinking backcast could be a problem on most stretches, but actually could be an opportunity to improve my roll casting - currently hardly ever use roll cast. Plus of course no need to cast big distances on a canal

    • @noblestsavage1742
      @noblestsavage1742 2 года назад +1

      @@alanhodgson7045 yes roll casting is your friend, also angle casts along the near bank as fish are often in there tight to cover. Also I overline my rod by one of two weights and I can cast the entire width with one backcast.

      Trout tend to be a bit easier to catch especially if there's plenty of them. They hit pretty much anything. Pike aren't in so many numbers as other predators but you only need one to get your heart going. Enjoy the journey buddy

      Hey Chris. Used to be a really great spot, still will throw up a nice fish or two but the pressure it gets is unreal from what it got years ago. Even if it's only one guy every day or two, the fishing will die off. I actually used to go here and make videos but then never use the footage cos i didn't want to spoil the fishing.
