@@gexpe2003 - Ghosts don't need to drive cars. Any car, including this money grabber. WWIII will get rid of all humans leaving the cars sitting lonely in their dead owners' million pound home driveways.
A guy in my Town in Germany has one 4x4 Squared and one normal G500 and the Squared one is always dirty and full of mud. So this guy knows how to appreciate the Off-road-Capability.
well ... the G-Klasse is still the go-to model if you need an Offroader that is not a Range Rover and not from the other side of the pont. I believe at least some people will actually use it for offroading.
Akcc C I beg to differ. Why would someone buy a slower, more expensive, off road tuned, non-AMG version of the G Wagon to do anything but off road it? The badge whores would surely go for the G63 or the G65. The urban folk would prefer the bigger wheels and low profile tires.
people who take a G class offroad will take the G class professional. Look at Africa, Australia you will find Gs thar have seen more rocks than streets
well one thing is for sure, top gear will never be the same without the old crew,but...i have full faith in chris harris making the best out of our beloved top gear.
Joshua Pascu I know Im a year late, but I feel many of Chris' reviews are more focused on the cars themselves and are often better than what the crew themselves did in terms of reviewing the car. However, in terms of antics and comedy, that trio will obviously never be beaten
This is some proper automotive reviewing. perfectly balanced, beautifully shot, and amazingly narrated. Thank you Top gear for getting the proper Chris Harris back :)
I don't usually like Mercedes much less G wagons, but this is just outstanding. Mostly because you can't get any of the really nice Mercedes cars in the US. I'm glad they brought it to North America. I hope to see one on the road some day. Thanks.
It's incredible to me that every review of the 4x4^2 features it driving on its absurdly out-of-place, yet standard, street wheel+tyre package. I haven't seen one reviewer and/or owner driving one on its proper "optional" (i.e. NECESSARY) 18-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in 37-inch mud terrains!! You can even adjust tire pressure on the fly like a gotdamn Humvee!! I'd have to do something about the low-hanging regulatory rear bumper, too...
Best review from Chris whilst at topgear. Nice and chilled, pretty laid back about the whole thing. He doesn't suite the small hyper angry over excited persona that we see on tv. More of what we've just seen please BBC.
He's seen Formula Offroad! Those guys and their machines are amazing but they are all as mad as a box of frogs! You would have to be a lunatic and not believe in Physics to do that sport! lol
Chris make more videos because we need best journalist to be heard. Your videos are not boring and that's very important when I want to listen about crazy cars.
I was soo nervous while watching this....I thought that you were going to be caught on camera driving with both of your hands on the very top of the wheel like most suv drivers!... you were getting close!
My old Suzuki Sierra, all 975cc of it used to make me smile too, and it could go anywhere this fancy priced posemobile could as well-including deeper water crossings than Chris went through here.
I love how he just left the car in petrol station in the end. He definitely knows the place where any owner of this car will be spending most of the time at haha.
Portal axles don't make crazy articulation, they give you ground clearance and drive train reduction for massive tires and articulation is compromised in result of that.
Is anyone else gonna comment a completely original remark on this top gear in comparison to the old one and how Chris could do it himself? If not then i will...
give him his own show, with its own name- get rid of the old/new Top Gear discussion and lets all enjoy what we came here for: A lovely presenter talking about cars most of us would never buy and some nice pictures while doing so. Life is complicated enough
In 2o11 they re released the G Wagon in Australia. Mercedes took a fleet of 7 along the Canning Stock route a drive undertaken by lots of mums and dads in their Landcruisers and Patrols. Sadly for Mercedes 6 of the 7 broke down and needed to have parts flown in so they could get out of the desert. Understandably they don't sell a lot of them in Australia except to the odd urban poseur.
Wonderfully absurd is an excellent descriptor for this kind of car. Yes, it seems wonderful (based on this video as I haven't and most likely will not experience the G 500 4x4^2), but absolutely ridiculous being roughly $300,000. I'd be curious to see the off road capabilities of this (the G 500 4x4^2) and a bone stock Land Rover Discovery or even the top of the line Land Rover Discovery. Just as a comparison if only because I know a bone stock Disco isn't $300,000+ and I'm fairly confident a top of the line Disco also doesn't come close to $300,000+. Anywho... love the videos! And I know the first season of Top Gear wasn't super well received, but I'll always be a viewer because I love me cars. Love from Florida, Marshall
a four-wheel version of a six-wheel of a four-wheel, well done mercedes
silenteagle I remember when James May said something similar on one of the episodes.
yes about the M6 Grancoupe xD
flintenFLORI no it was about the same car
Ugwunna Odinye no it wasn't it was about the M6 on the Australian episode. He never drove this car on TG, hence CH doing so now.
+Aliasify It was brought up during the news segment on TG where they talk about cars and James said it then
"Nein, nein, nein! Kartoffelkopf!"
Chris, you are priceless as always.
All that off road capability will come in handy at the mall, country club, and gated communities where they will reside. >_>
...and when the zombies arrive 😂
best car for when ww3

Chris could literally just do top gear all by himself and would just be as good, if not better
Maison E. Goyard he did something better, it's called Chris Harris On Cars.
Need to get rid of joey
i had exact same thought while clicking on this video
Previous TG was different from an auto RUclips channel. This one isn't.
Totally agree. Best reviewer, well spoken, skilled driver
The biggest rock this G-Wagen will ever encounter in real life is a pebble, but it looks amazing regardless!
well ... the G-Klasse is still the go-to model if you need an Offroader that is not a Range Rover and not from the other side of the pont.
I believe at least some people will actually use it for offroading.
Land Rover Defender or a Jeep Wrangler are the go to models for off roading imo.
The next would be Toyota Land Cruisers. G-Classes are just for looks. Too expensive to scratch and dent.
Akcc C I beg to differ. Why would someone buy a slower, more expensive, off road tuned, non-AMG version of the G Wagon to do anything but off road it? The badge whores would surely go for the G63 or the G65. The urban folk would prefer the bigger wheels and low profile tires.

Top gear, keep the Chris Harris videos coming and we'll keep watching. He's the best in the buisness
Although I've felt he's kind of had to dumb down a bit for TV. There's something a little bit off.
I miss when he did Chris Harris on cars.
Probably likes his Top Gear job alot ,and is just behaving accordingly , still one of best though even if he's dumbed down a little
not the best in business, just the best they have
I started a channel for my C63S AMG! Check it out, give me feedback and subscribe!

Chris is the best reviewer indeed. Just love watching his videos, always on point.

Richard Hammond: I do love side pipes.
Jeremy Clarkson: I can see that from the strap of your front pipe.

who else likes that acid green?💚
It's dew yellow mate
shashank Reddy I love it 😍
dazzaburger lime green
Anshuman Aich it was definitely bright yellow
Philip Marlowe a high visibility jacket
I like how he went away from the car at the petrol station, he was like ''Filling up this monster is not my problem, is the producers' '' :')
Any Germans here? 3:40 - KartoffelKopf :D :D
Jo19han92nes lmfao 😂😂😂😂
Potatoa head
If it is so good offroad, with road tires, imagine how it is with offroad tires!
They finally made a car with a high visibility safety vest.
Wonderfully absurd car, isn't that the exact reason why we love G-wagons.
Best auto journalist in the world right now! Love Chris's videos.
I admit even without the old trio, this season top gear is very good, I like Chris Harris, Roy , and Matt.
Denny Hermawan Yea, but they shouldn't called it top gear
You guys know Top Gear started in 1977 right?
The new guys suck
really appreciate the sound mixing and music in these top gear videos, nice.
Chris Harris is a worthy successor to the old Top Gear. Keep going, Chris.
Love the G wagon, my favorite SUV by far.
I don't usually like Mercedes much less G wagons, but this is just outstanding. Mostly because you can't get any of the really nice Mercedes cars in the US. I'm glad they brought it to North America. I hope to see one on the road some day. Thanks.
What a machine.
Chris Harris: the guy that keeps Top Gear going.
Side note:
The dual coilovers (just like most of the suspension) comes from the "Guard"-Version, the armoured G-Class.
I have one in their matte black LOVE it. I use it toget me out to long range shooting areas- Chris is 100% my fave car journalist.

The ending of the video should be: boy does it make the owner of the gas station smile.
That review was absolutely outstanding.

Chris Harris is number 1
These videos are so well done

quinnjohn1 Isn't Formula Offroad from Iceland?
quinnjohn1 tsup man.this is a nice ride
kabd I think he meant the "Arctic Trucks"-company in Finland..!
+Patrik Ojala, like formula offroad, arctic trucks is also founded in Iceland.
Chris make more videos because we need best journalist to be heard. Your videos are not boring and that's very important when I want to listen about crazy cars.

Chris gives me a good reason to watch Top Gear again!
Love your videos Chris they are by far the most entertaining and informative!
Something else for the school run!!
I dunno if it's just me but I love G-wagons with the tyre at the back .. Without it, it just looks a tad bit weird
I love how he just left the car in petrol station in the end. He definitely knows the place where any owner of this car will be spending most of the time at haha.
Way more smiles per gallon than any electric car :)
With that car you might even get a personal chrismas card from your nearest petrol station.
I think a 4Runner TRD Pro would be more rugged for off road. If I want something big and fancy, I'll get a LX570. But I gotta applaud Merc!
I still getting mine no matter how old these get
Probably the most capable off road production car ever made 💯
Too bad AMG didn’t get their paws on the engine tho 🤷🏼♂️
Love the Blackadder reference at 3:39 haha. "Nein nein..... kartoffelkopf"
One thing that's really lackin' is the 4x4s. Lotsa everything
