  • having more fun experimenting with the knitting machine! i tested out the new caron blossom cakes to make a quick sweater top and then tried my hand at a knit mini dress. made a last minute splurge to invest in a smaller 30 needle machine so that i can make tighter sleeves in the round too! xx

    How would you go about making a sweater like this for larger sizes on this kind of machine? Looking into getting one and would love to make this!

    • @multifandom4092
      @multifandom4092 Год назад +5

      You can, it'll just have to be more panels. So like maybe 3 or 4 depending on how large you want it and then you might have to seam the edges down the middle. If you have larger arms, you'd probably work in the round instead of in panels. The entire project should take like 1.5 to 2 cakes of yarn if you use the same yarn she uses in the video.

    All these I KNIT A SWEATER IN ONE DAY/WEEKEND/HOW FAST CAN I KNIT videos I've been seeing the past year or so are yes, cool, but seem somewhat counter to the ethos of knitting. We are turning this personal creative intentional endeavor into EFFICIENCY and basically fast fashion in a way? This is by no means a personal attack on this channel!!! I just kind of feel stressed out by how prevelant this hyper-capitalist attitude is in the knitting/crochet community, like we must always be making more and making it faster and that the process is not important just the immediacy of the result. Our shrinking attention spans and need to have the end reward immediately are oozing into even activities like knitting, and to me it seems like it loses some of the thoughtful artfulness of the craft. Just interested if others feel similarly or have counter points. Cute projects tho hahahahahha

      I totally get where you're coming from. I think there can be a balance and the machines have a place. Like I get sore hands and arms a lot, and for various reasons struggle to keep going with really long projects. I'm contemplating getting a machine so I can actually complete a knitted jumper before deciding I hate my design and restarting several times, but I will always continue with crocheting as well.
      I think the trend of videos is kind of clickbaity, that dress is not at all wearable as a dress, it'd be nice to see some thought go into adjusting /finishing it so it's actually practical.

      I use this as a way to create my own clothes with limited time and space to do projects. I've used it to create hats for fam and friends and they are getting used. I don't finish a big project in a day but it help with the hands pain. I do see your point but it's up to the person using it if it's fast fashion or not.
