This came out in 1996, and the early 90s were almost an extension of the 80s. We didn't really get to the "extreme" stuff until the late 90s. @Darkstar You have no clue. Carrey was celebrated for his roles in over the top comedy movies like The Mask, Ace Ventura, or Dumb&Dumber, his antagonist roles like in Batman Forever or The Cable Guy were getting mixed reviews from critics and viewers at the time. The only role in the 90s that he was heavily praised for that was somewhat serious and less total comedy was in The Truman Show. Chip was supposed to die in the original version, but the ending was changed because the test audience didn't like it. So they went back & filmed some additional scenes where he survived.
When this came out people were not expecting a Dark Comedy from Ben Stiller starring Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick. My dad took me to see it in the theater and while I thought it was hilarious he was lost most of the time.
This was one of my favorite movies when I was like 12/13 even though I didn't get a lot of it the same way I do now it's still an hilarious movie ahead of it's time really

This is in my top three Jim Carrey movies. So quotable and hilarious. Good to see an early performance by Jack Black and brief appearance by Bob Odenkirk. Kinda wish they would of done a sequel.
The cable guy was a master of manipulation. Dude turned Steven's entire family against him in one night. When I was 4 I didn't understand. But now in my 30s I'm very impressed by how he did it.
Emotional manipulation can be extremely scary and confusing. Imagine having your whole family think you’re crazy because somebody is manipulating yourself and your family into thinking that way. It may sound far fetched but it’s very real.

Jim Carrey was my crush as a child.
Mine as well. And still is.
6:29 boss had to make sure Steve’s head was in the game before making the investment. 24:06 WTH was that 😂
Y’all gotta keep doing these edits. These are just easier to follow and don’t have those awkward silences
one of my friends from high school used to babysit for matthew brodericks kids
The performance of Jim Carrey in that one is a master piece......
My top 3 : 1/ me myself and irene , 2/ the cable guy , 3/ the truman show
I was alone in singing the praises of this movie for so long. One of my favorites by far . The server at medieval times was fantastic.
No one notice Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman) and David Cross in this film.
23:48 I must’ve seen this movie a thousand times. The one liners still slay.😂
16:34 sounds just like “my leg guy” off of SpongeBob 😂
My absolute favorite Jim Carey movie ever!!! I always feel like not many people know or even appreciate this movie. So happy you guys did this one. I’m a huge fan of all your videos :)
This is in my top three Jim Carrey movies. So quotable and hilarious. Good to see an early performance by Jack Black and brief appearance by Bob Odenkirk. Kinda wish they would of done a sequel.
A ton of little sightings - David Cross, Owen Wilson, J. Garofolo, Kathy Griffin, etc
This movie was ahead of it's time
Definitely! He predicted online gaming and shopping.
It may sound far fetched but it’s very real.
yeah, the sequence of events looks very reasonable.
I love this movie!
The snapping of the fingers was supposed to be from West Side Story.
Jim Carrey oddly sounds like Deadpool. I wonder if Ryan Reynolds got inspiration from this character.
The cable guy is Jim carreys best movie bc it’s surprising
After dumb n dumber cable guy is Jim’s best movie and it’s my favorite
Gotta shout out to slipping Jimmy Saul Goodman at 29:23
