The beauty of his early movies is; yes they were juvenile and crude, but they had a heart, and were often genuinely funny! There’s just something missing from his more recent output. I personally think the last really solid movie he put out was Click, and that was in 2006, no I take that back..the first Grown Ups was okay…emphasis on the FIRST

I grew up in south Louisiana and this movie was such an important part of my childhood. You can't possibly understand how accurate some of this is. Every Cajun I know wanted to hate this movie because we assumed it would be making fun of us - instead it laughs with us at how ridiculous life in our beloved boot is. Btw, the lawnmower thing is totally accurate. I know quite a few people that got around on lawnmowers or tractors because they didn't have a driver's license. Maybe not back and forth to work or school, but down the road to the corner store or something, yeah.

Kathy Bates was criticized heavily for doing this movie. She wasn't known for doing comedic roles, and many saw it as 'beneath' her to be in 'a silly Sandler movie'. He wasn't taken seriously yet. And no one could understand why Henry Winkler was there, but it became a 'Where's Waldo?' type deal to find him in Adam's comedies after this.

The older guy you can't understand is doing a parody of Cajun French. It's French with parts of Spanish, English, Native American and African. I've known people who knew French but couldn't understand Cajun French.

Literally one the best comedy movies from the 90s in my opinion Adam Sandler at his peak along with so many of his movies from this era, movies like this are the reason I won't have a word said against Adam Sandler even for his later forays

Everytime I see someone reacting to this movie I have to comment.. I am Vikki Boucher! My husband's family pronounces it b-OUCH-er and I go by Vik not Vikki but my maiden name is Bichet (b-i-SHAY) so in other words in French both my married name and maiden name would be pronounced almost the same but obviously very different family bloodlines 🤣🤣🤣 a connection with this movie we didn't even realize until we'd been dating a few years!

The actor Rob Shneider who says to "cut off his head" and "you can do it all night long" is in a lot of movies with Adam Sandler. He talks in a similar way with the crowds in Happy Gilmore. They work well together. Rob is also in a movie called The Benchwarmers. Benchwarmers features the actor who played Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder). It would certainly be a funny non family friendly movie to watch. Its about three adults going against an entire little league baseball season by themselves in order to stick it to all those bullies who never let any of the non athletic types have any fun. It also features Terry Cruise and James Earl Jones among other famous actors/actresses. Imagine Napoleon Dynamite meets the movie Dodgeball. Thats whats it is like a mixture of. It also features some fan culture references like starwars and the tv show night rider. Its a good one to try if your interested.
