In this video I go over the differences between my 2016 FX4 and my 2016 F150 sport. I made this video because there is always a lot of confusion about what makes the FX4 different from other F150's.

The shocks in the rear are called “sea leg” mounting and they are the same for both trucks. You are just looking at them from different sides.

The electric locking rear differential is a great feature on the FX4 package. However the best and most functional feature is the FX4 bed decals.
J couldn’t agree more...it lets other F150 owners know that they are inferior from a distance...Can’t put a price on that.

@@AutoHeadz sport xlt has the same electronic rear different correct ? With mine if I pull out the 4x4 knob it locks the rear end

I have a 2019 Fx4 and previously had a 2015 Fx4. I believe if you check Ford literature you will find that it is the front shocks which are tuned off road shocks.
The FX4 package on the 2019 F-150 includes:
331 Electronic-locking rear-axle with 5.0L V8 engine, 3.5L V6 EcoBoost® engine, or 3.0L V6 PowerStroke® Diesel engine
355 Electronic-locking rear-axle with 2.7L V6 EcoBoost® engine
4×4 “FX4 Off-Road” bodyside decal
Hill Descent Control™
Off-road tuned front shock absorbers
Skid plates: fuel tank, transfer case, and front differential
Floor Liners - Tray Style
The rear shocks have the same mounting points on both trucks, it’s attached at the front one side, rear on the other.

The rear fender height looked exactly the same to me between the two trucks.
I have the 4x4 that was ordered with the locking differential and the skid plates. Guess if I had the shocks I could have the sticker

What's interesting to me is that, at least for 2019, when I measured my STX to a buddy's FX4, both being stock, mine was taller. Figured out its the true 33" tires on 20" wheels the STX had on it that gave it the edge. Otherwise hub to fender lip were identical, meaning there is no special "lift" on the FX4 package.
I have a 2014 fx4 and the lights are darker then the regular 4x4, the interior is different then the regular 4x4 it has fx decal in the instrument panel. Leather seats are different as well, sunroof.. fx4 is fords version of the chevys z71 off road package

Call me old school but 4x4 implies all of the above. It seems to be that manufacturers have found a way to penny pinch you out of certain drive modes of standard 4x4 capabilities. But I perceive things as if you buy a 4x4 it should have all the bells and whistles of what most modern 4x4 capabilities should be. If you don't have a 4x4 you have a two-wheel drive.

Hit them with a measuring tape to check the height difference on front and back. Inquiring minds want to know.
They are the same. I've done it. Anyone that says an "FX4" is lifted is lying. It's a standard F150.
your video is awesome. I ended up getting a 2019 stx 4x4. I figured i would save that little extra money and instead of fx4 get me some fox shocks and rci skid plates to beef up my regular 4x4. I preferred to pick after market parts than the factory stuff in this case. Thanks so much for your video.

Good choice. Oh and you can save the money on the shocks too; after 40 years of going "off road" (off pavement, there really is no such thing as offroad unless you own your own ranch), I can say 99.9% of us won't be able to tell a bit of difference between a standard oem shock and an "off road tuned" one lol.
I have a 2018 FX4 with no shifter for 4h/4l/ 2h. I’m guessing it all happens electronically.
If I have off-road selected on the instrument panel showing what degree the tires are turned, what the slope of an incline or decline and the rear axle is illuminated blue. I’m guessing if 4wd engages the front axle will be illuminated blue?
SM Proper no knob on dash for 4wd? check underneath for front axle and transfer case...you may not have 4wd...even tho you have fx4 sticker...

Yea fx4 is much stiffer, especially when youre sitting in the back, tested it on ranger fx4 and ride was not comfortable when sitting in the back
Thanks for simplifying the comparison. I do like a smooth ride due to road trips. So I would have to consider how to stiffen for turns but yet have a coush ride. Shout out from Miami Fla.

My FX4 has a very plush, yet controlled ride.
My fx4 has a shock on the left side starting at back and a shock on the right starting at front

Gotta say “off road” or z71 off road. That’s who the women flock to. If you have a 4x4 truck, take the decals off. Get a leveling kit and it’s going to be badass. No need to advertise

Thank you. Yes sir! the rear end of my FX4 was at least an inch higher than my sport. I used to park them next to each other side-by-side every day and there’s definitely a tangible difference.
Not the same hight. FX4 is definitely higher.
I can see a lot of surface rust mines a 2022 less then 400 miles on it and it’s just as rusted which I find Bull S””” the humidity must have to be perfect to get that extra HP check your weather station

@@AutoHeadz I had an 07 F150 that I took with me to Ft Drum for 3.5 years. Even with weekly washes in the winter there was a bunch of body rust and components that needed to be replaced.

i just purchased 4x4 and felt higher than other f150s i seen...now it makes sense. I believe front end is bit taller too (about inch or two) maybe due to 18inch wheel and tire size
The FX4 is definitely higher. Internet F150 “experts” (don’t even own an F150) claim that it’s not but it absolutely is. Enjoy the new truck man!

Yeah made a mistake on that. I didn’t realize they mounted the shocks staggered. Oops lol.
The shocks are staggered. If you face the trucks the same way you’ll see both have the same shock locations. The shocks themselves are different with the FX4 though.
Honestly i think he is a moron and doesent accually know nothing about the differences between the f150, honestly there isn't much of a difference between them. The fx4 is built better for off roading
Oh why would shocks raise the standing vehicle height. Unless they have air bags or booster springs. Yours FX4 could have different rear springs. Cool trucks anyhow.

Bigger ,longer , stiffer shocks
Compare both of the same sides of the vehicles and you’ll see that the XLT and the FX4 have the same rear shock placement. 🤣

Wow, um no! FX4 is just Ford's off-road package. AWD is part of the trim level, and its not available till you get to Lariat. Even an XL can have FX4...
