BOARDING Holland America Noordam in Whittier (Southbound ALASKA Cruise)

- We are leaving Denali National Park and heading south to Whittier to board Holland America’s Noordam for a 7-day Southbound cruise.
Once we get a bit outside the park we stop for the most amazing views of Mount Denali!! It has been visible our entire trip, but nothing like this! Now we start our 8 hour bus ride south.
We arrive in Whittier about 5pm to a rainy port but out ship is ready to welcome us? We spent the evening exploring and getting settled in to our home for the next week!

In Sept 2024 we sailed out of Whittier on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Spent night in Anchorage and caught the train the next morning. Train ride was awesome and beautiful scenery. First time sailing out of Whittier and would do it again. Thanks for sharing.

We were on the Noordam last year in Alaska, hoping to do it again next year!
My son lived in the Begich Towers for over 10 years. We also kept our fishing boat right there in Whittier for over 15 years. Drove through the tunnel several times a week coming and going from Anchorage.
Are the units nice? Where do they eat?
@@mmc9828 His unit was real nice, 2 bedroom 1 bath. Living room looked towards the back and could see the glacier and waterfalls on the mountain. There are several restaurants in town and the towers have a police station, grocery store, post office, and city hall all on the first floor of the building.
Silly question about that long bus ride- how often do they stop for bathroom breaks and is there a bathroom on the bus? Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
So glad to see embarkation, we are thinking about this trip and I was wondering when we would get to board. I like to make sure to have a window table for the dining room.

My daughter and I are doing the HAL land/cruise southbound next May on Nieuw Amsterdam. First time! (Not looking forward to that long bus ride.) I'm curious how the luggage is handled - is your large checked suitcase taken in Anchorage and kept until the cruise; and you use a carry-on & personal item for the Denali part?

The trip is a little over 300 miles. It takes about 6 hours if you do not stop.

Oh my you became a grandma at a very young age as Sophia is 11 years old. I wonder how old your daughter was when she became a Mom. The ship you are on is very old and not as nice as the other cruises you have taken. As far as a cruise from Alaska and I've never been, there are so many people who vlog from there so I find it so repetitious really.
