Just done this with help from this video. Longest time for me was getting the hoses off the thermostat housing. You need to get them moving by twisting and pulling up and down. For people who asked about getting the alternator back on: Put the belt on the alternator and put the bottom nut in. Do not fully tighten it. Swing the alternator up and apply right pressure to line up the top bolts. Evenly tighten the two top bolts. When bleeding the system, there is a bleed screw on the top right of the radiator if you were to look at it from insdie the engine. Undo that nut and pure coolant in to the expansion tank until coolant comes out of the bleed screw. Tighten the bleed screw. Put the cap on the expansion tank and run the car at 3000 rpm for 2 minutes. Top up coolant if necessary . Run the car again at 3000rpm for 2minutes. Top up coolant if necessary. Make sure you've got hot air in the cabin and you should be good to go. The whole job took me about 5 hours. Never want to do it again. I was dead after that.
Hi, thanks for the details you provided. I wanted to ask you, but isn't the belt necessary to remove it before starting to disassemble the alternator? I have seen many videos where they show that first of all they remove the belt from under the vehicle, so I would like to understand if it is necessary. Thank you
Not sure if it is the thermostat housing leaking or the water pump, I can see around the area of the housing that there is water, the water runs out under the engine when parked and not running, I am worried it is the water pump, would a leak in the thermostat housing cause the water to run out when parked and gush out when driving? Thanks.
@@cliveandmat only one way to find out is to remove the housing and look for cracks. If it gushes out then you've got a nasty leak and shouldn't be too hard to find
😢 that's a pain ,I don't think I will be able to do that unfortunately I will have to specialist people Is too much for me. Anyway thanks for sharing your Valuable DIY video. Appreciate that .
Good video some useful info ad a heads up before doing my alternator. But the best part of the video was the bottle of beer that crept into view after the headlight removal. Legendary!!
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Jayceon Arthur I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Great video, I have a question, is the position of the thermostate correct as seen in the video? I have a Ford Fiesta zetec MK4 97 and I've had some problems about temperature due to position of thermostate, thank you for your answer, greetings from Colombia !
Hi and thank you! So my car was overheating before I did this video, turned out the thermostat was the wrong way round! The way I put the new one in is the correct way. My car was fine after it. Thanks for your comment and hope this helps. Cheers
1NE LIFE CARS I was going to say the same thing, mine was in the right way yours being backwards installed, if ever in doubt the spring should be aimed towards the engine block
Hello, I guess your thermostat was installed in the opposite direction, it should have been sitting there with the other side outwards. Anyway thanks for the video, we've just bought a used Fiesta 2 days ago
Great video you’re a life saver... I hope😂 engine, oil AND battery light comes on when I come to a stop, turn car off and back on and it’s fine until I stop again, I’ve seen it may be the alternator, but how can I be for certain?
Hi, Thanks for your comment. Hope the video helps... Can you give me more details , do the lights come on under hard braking or every time you stop, is it just long journeys or all the time.... Could be a few things so any extra information will help. Cheers
I thought you have to cut the old belt off and fit a new one? At least on Mk5 Haynes manual. Otherwise is it not very hard to get the alternator back on? Or impossible.
Yes on paper your right, its not exactly easy but not that hard and certainly not impossible. Ive done on a few fiestas and others fords with that engine and alternator without to much trouble.
Hi. Thanks for the video, very helpful. I want to ask you, when you put the belt on, is it a position? Or you have to mark the position of the belt before taking it off and put it back on the same mark? Or it doesn't matter.. thanks 👍
first the thermostat was in the wrong way around and he put it back the wrong way round ,also one guy on here claims to be able to do it with a socket in 15 minutes without taking the alternator off ,well I don't like to fiddle ,so I took the bumper off and just dropped the front down everything still connected rads ect ,simple 10 minutes and then it's a easy job ,but I am not knocking the other guy who did it even easier.fact is, it is harder to get the alternator off than doing it the other two ways,,,,and the thermostat goes the other way around or it will leak.
Changed the thermostat. Very awkward bolts on the housing. 1 you can get from reaching underneath the car but the others are a pain. I lost 1 bolt but luckily had a spare the same size. The alterator is very difficult to get back on i tried a little but lt was dark so stopped I will try again tomorrow.
Update. To get the alternator back into position use a crowbar and leaver it. I put the side bolt on 1st but only put it on loosely to avoid cross threading and to allow the alternator to move when prying it with the crowbar. I really don't think this is possible without a crowbar so you need to buy or borrow 1.
Wtf lol I just used a long extention on my ratchet for the four 8mm bolts on the water pump two under two over the thermostat housing and had it done in 15mins
There's no belt tensioner on the Mk6 and 6.5s, you have to use the carnk pulley to get it back on. You can keep the belt around the alternator and use a lot of leverage to get the alternator into position, but I tried and it's hard work. Using the crank pulley is easier, still not that easy but easier

@@giuseppepollino3997 No, I didn't remove the belt completely, I left it dangling. You're only removing it from the alternator.

So how to do check on the thermostat to find out if it's bad? Please help 😢
How did you remove that nut on the far right of the thermostat housing? What tool did you use?
Good vid mate

so there is no need to cut the belt and replace it when changing the alt?
No mate, no harm in replacing it while it’s off but if it’s in good condition might as well use again. Cheers
@@1NELIFE it is doable, my belt was tight as nuts needs alot of elbo grease to get it in

You left the alternator on?
You should mention the alternator is almost impossible to get back on.
i know its not easy mate i put top 2 bolts in first with alot of effort.
there is a belt tensioner you need to get loose... pardon my english

solo falto explicar que tipo de llave usaste para los tornillos de abajo
No wonder you have problems with cooling system if the thermostat is opposite way around bro...
you cant fit em wrong cause the plastic housing is different , it goes in one way
Good video mate but I think you might introduce a bit more learning
Al parecer ese termostato, venía instalado al revés, es decir lo de adentro hacia fuera
Thermostat is wrong way round
Nice video but please get rid of the intro pure brain damage
James Thomson but it’s chip😂
whack intro
Might be the worst intro in existence lmao
