I saw George in a tiny bar, the Little Bear in Evergreen, this same year. He had apparently just discovered the joy of cordless guitar...after duckwalking across the top of the bar and back a few times, he began hopping from table-top (good, sturdy cable spool tables). He just totally destroyed the joint and everyone in it. One of the peak rock & roll experiences of my life.
Rock on George and you bad-ass DDs!
Hot damn! That must've been one helluva show!
The Little Bear! You Sir are a real fan!!!
It's best seeing them and other good bands in clubs, ballrooms, granreis, theaters, jukebox joints and other small places live n loud.
I had his first album, George Thorogood and the Destroyers on 8 track in my AMC Gremlin 😅 then the first live album...I seen him in Glasgow a few years back but I think I prefer his music pre saxaphone, it's just what I grew up listening to.🎉
I'm 36 years old , my mom got me into george and the destroyers when I was a kid had all the cds growing up never heard these live radio broadcasts till now having multiple eargasms!!!
As George once said, "What you lack in talent you better make up in showmanship."
George Thorogood-Brian Setzer & Jimmie Vaughan ruined me for life made me pick up a Guitar and in almost 35 years I have never looked back!!
I've said it before & I'll gladly say it again. I have NEVER heard a bad song from George. All the way from little old Cymru/Wales!
I’m with ya brother, all the way up in the Highlands of Scotland!🏴👌
@@supertramp6011 & john jones, same here in Brummagem
I was at this show cost 5 bucks!!!!!!!
Be it Blues,Country,Rock or Rocky-Blues George can do it all. And do it Best.
Just saw George in concert in Primm NV...great concert!...he is "Bad to the Bone"
I was on stage at this show..playing maracas..what a fun show. Joel Selvin..set this up ..
Where was this, this is amazing
I have to agree hole heartily will Stormbringer Coming's post from a year ago that Thorogood came along when Rock N Roll was going thru one of it's many changes with the pure rawness of Punk and the catchy dance beats of Disco. Thorogood's love and respect of the Blues heroes is unmatched. Who and the hell opens their show with 3 Elmore James songs in a row, no one! then a big bad Bo Diddley favorite, Cocaine Blues by T.J. "Red" Arnall & Johnny Cash, the great John Lee Hooker song One Bourbon....a rockin' version of Brownie McGhee's So Much Trouble and then ends the show with 3 songs from the master, Chuck Berry. George also throws in another Elmore James favorite Madison Blues. It's Approaching 40 years of Thorogood rockin' out the music he
loves........the BLUES!
As you say, who else? He is classic!
Nobody kept the blues flame alive more during this time (late 70's) than George. He doesn't get the credit he deserves. Always paid tribute to the blues heroes before it became fashionable. Yeah... the show cooks also. Never had a bad show.
Don't forget Johnny Winters with the Muddy Waters Band!!!!
oh right, yes. It's just that Thorogood never seems to get the recognition that he deserved. Live... he is phenomenal.
The Yardbirds with Clapton and the Animals both recorded with Sonny Boy Williamson. The Stones insisted that Howling Wolf appear on Shindig with them in the mid 60s. American blues musicians were very popular in Europe in the early/mid 60s. Stones recorded at the Chess studios in Chicago just to pay tribute. It was fashionable long before George.
@@williamschletzer4516 True dat. But George still gets snubbed. People cant look past the bravado
The Destroyers saved us all from drowning in a sea of disco.
Saw this show in Tucson Arizona at a small bar called choo choos in 1978. He absolutely killed it. Amazing showmanship. And yes, no sax thank god.
Damn. In Tucson? Holy cow..
The sax ruins their sound for me. This early stuff is timeless perfection.
In fact, this show clearly demonstrates why the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a sham. The Destroyers kept the flame of Rock & Roll burning during the so-called disco inferno.
Just saw him a couple nights ago in Atlanta…..still got it
Man aint never heard George like this,Shucks raw and wicked
Hard to believe its been almost 40 years. Georgie still rocks!!!!
I saw a concert with a guest guitarist...his teenage daughter. She ROCKS!
Saw him a couple of times at Keystone Palo Alto…. Definitely a fun time! 😊☮️
Killer set..straight getting it and tight as can be
This George rocks thoroughly goodly. Ok, greatly🎙️
I recall reading about this gig in the Pink Section. Those of us from the Bay Area know of what that was.
This is one of the new groups that were being raved about. George wasn't punk or new wave but was, along with groups associated with that, like Graham Parker & The Rumour and Mink DeVille, a band bringing back hot live music to the club level, taking old styles and revving them up. I recall reading about a SF gig that got shut down because he was too loud.
1978 is one of my favorite music years.
The Starry Plough..in Berkeley ask them go acoustic..too loud.
Chicken George was hatched from an egg, love that guitar work, whole band was awesome, same goes for the late Great SRV...
I love Goodbye Bye Baby, as well as all of them. I would have loved to have been there.
Yeah, thats Rock and roll ❤
He hits that Gibson like it owes him money ..
This is great, but I love the sax to.
by far the best recording out there of Thorogood. awesome.
Excellent, love it!!!! You're right about the SAX.
Thank You for sharing this. I have two recordings of George live on cassette. I really like his playing and his band mates thru the years have been good also. Have a good day!!
Digging George pre-sax
This cool. I listen to this as part of my daily entertainment when I'm out in my shop working, (no, playing) with my 1940 Buick. Thanks for sharing.
George was a force of nature. Most of the tunes were not original but he played in a very original style - unmistakably his own. And if you ever saw him perform back in the day, you would have seen one of the greatest performers out there. He knew how to put on a rock show among rock shows. I never heard this great recording before - thanks for posting! It's up there with the April 8, 1978 performance at the Bijou Caf'e in Philly - and a largely different set list.
The Bijou in Philly.....man, i ain’t heard that in a long time...
I have never seen George but I love all of his music. And thanks to RUclips I can watch him. I love all of his videos. Love to watch him play and perform. I agree he is a force of nature. I love it. His voice is too. It is raw and a turn you on one.
Amazing Quality! Ride on George! Thanks for Sharing!
I enjoyed the first time I heard George Thorogood i saw everything but the bottom of the sea !! I just love everything i saw all my life..
Nice, like the first album, great sound , great public.Braiment très bien , je le garde précieusement (I will keep it with care , thanks) de France Merci;

.
Thanks for sharing..I had the Boot from KSAN 1977 show for years and years..i never knew here was a 1978 show! GREAT!!! ROCKIN!!
Somewhere in Germany back in 1979. I was 19 and listening to the radio. Medium Wave. With a bit of luck one could listen to dutch Radio Stations playing my favorite music all through the night. WTF is this? I hardly speak and understand french! But wait, what is this? Bad to the bone, George Thorogood. Never heard about! The rest is history!
BBBBBBBBBADTO THEBONE
Saw George around this time at Keystone Palo Alto blew me away and thankfully...before sax.....
The BEST.
This so gooooood!
My doctor prescribed a George Thoroughgood concert for my resteless legs condition.
Didn't cure it but it gave them something to do? :)
Nothing like bad ass Rock N Roll but I love the Blues to. There best in small clubs Live N Loud close up. I like playing my few thousand vinyl records to Rock my house and it has to be loud our not at all.
Thanks for sharing
Early George Thorogood !! Cool Sound ! Thanks for sharing !
Very Nice!!!
This sounds great. I've got the November show (which we recorded off the air back then...). I didn't know that he did a second broadcast the next year.
+David Rafter I too have that show from 1977 on KSAN at The Boarding House down on Bush St. which i believe was his first time in San Francisco. It was a Wednesday night Jamboree & hootenanny (as George put it) The only problem is i only have the first 45 minutes due to not flipping over the 90 minute cassette to record the rest of show on KSAN . for 42 years i have been kicking myself for not recording the rest of that great show. Richard Gossett introduced him and the set list for the first 45 minutes was:
Baby, Please Set a Date.
New Hawaiian Boogie.
B.B.Q. Blues.
Move It On Over.
Cocaine Blues.
Wanted Man.
A Picture From Life's Other Side.
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.
I sure would love to have the second half of that this show.
+Mr. Black - Hi! You can email me at DRaftervoi@aol.com, and we can work out a way to get you a copy of the show.
+David Rafter ,I uploaded the 11/23/77 show, but,it's only a partial show. about the same sons as Mr. Black listed not sure about A Picture From Life's Other side though. 3rd track :ruclips.net/video/biG-cdV34EU/видео.html&feature=gp-n-y&google_comment_id=z12ytpg5vybdi5t4p04ci1dyxnifht14agg
David, you should upload the complete show, since nobody seems to have it although it isn'/t as good as the 78 tour.
vampirrecs v

Guitars are a goddamn thing of beauty
FUKN OATH THERE MATE ..... 100% 🎧🎧🎸🎸🔊🔊💪💪🙏🙏
Someone speaking names and character descriptions in Gossip mode has a lot of literature to do.
Que coisa gostosa de ouvir. Temos que viver do passado mesmo, embora na minha opinião musica boa não tem idadenão é mesmo?
he Played Boarding House on 11-23-77 and 5-23-78 but this is the 5-23-78 Show
yes it is after all. And I found the first tour broadcast on KSAN 11/23/77 and will upload that later tonight
here's the 11/23/77 show:ruclips.net/video/FSdDtKtv66Y/видео.html
I saw one of those shows - must've been the '77 because he was a completely unknown name to me. Some friends said they saw this guy playing a promo gig at... maybe Tower Records? or at a guitar store? Anyway: we went and George killed it; played for hours and tore the roof off. Never seen anything quite like it since.
:D
at the 25:30 mark, the classic " Cocaine Blues "
As one who came of age in the 80s, people often ask me why I hate "popular" 80s music (MTV fodder). I tell them it's because was listening to real music then, like Lonesome George here and SRV.
Absolutely same story here- Stevie ray Vaughan and Lonesome were what made me pick up an axe! ( I’m still pretty crap, but I love listening and having a go, such a feel good vibe!👌👌🤣
This is a excellent live recording, setlist is perfect, is this product official or a bootleg, I heard the product of this being is on sale online, I think George Thorogood should reissue this as a official cause I don’t like buying bootlegs cause they are not official product that’s owned by the band
Joe Kauffman, this is from a KSAN radio broadcast. It was never released as an official album. not sure if there's a bootleg of it,although there are lots of KSAN live shows that were bootlegged.
vampirrecs thanks for letting me know, I did posted it on George Thorogood and ask him to officially reissue it, I prefer to support the band by buying the official product, thanks for posting this on, hope you stay safe
its 5/23/78 looked it up
is it in 77 or 78
this is the 5/23/78 show, thought I had my tape marked correctly.
Oh ok thought so
Well Vampirrecs, I must admit this version of New Hawaiian Boogie really smokes! George rips through it and doesn't hold back, Also it's nice to hear the Elmore James song Goodbye Baby.
