Elvin Bishop is great but John Lee Hooker and Willie Dixon are legends, there would be no Elvin Bishop without them. There would be no british blues explosion without the american blues players. Keep them in mind !
That was John Hammond smoking his blues harp. There was some serious blues royalty on the stage. Besides John Lee Hooker, there was Elvin Bishop, Albert Collins, and Willie Dixon up on the stage; they joined George Thorogood, Jeff Simon, Billy Blough, and Hank Carter. All of them blew the roof off the building. They were awesome.
I was just really starting to sneak into clubs like this to see music like this around this time. I was so young and man, did I get myself in some trouble from time to time. All, totally worth it.
All our Rock and Metal would never have come to life without those real heroes like Dixon, Hooker, Collins and of course B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. It was them who invented Hard Rock. And George and his Destroyers are hard to beat. Hard workers, great music. It's a sheer joy to watch them all playing the kind of music that will never fade.
I'm trying to imagine Mr Hooker stepping onto the stage when I was in my blues band twenty years ago. I'd have just about fainted with the sheer joy and love and pride of it.
This guy knows what good music is he has covered some of the best!! As well as some good shit of his own!!! Love George!!! John Lee Hooker is one of the greatest blues men ever!!!
One great musician excitedly introducing a legend... Doesn't get much better than this. It's things like this that make me realize everything's gonna be alright. Troubles are sure to come, but they can be overcome.
This entire concert blows my mind- all the greats playing with George and the Destroyers- what a great show! I have watched this over and over and it is one of the BEST in my eyes. I hope to see George and the boys make it back to my neck of the woods next year😉
Seen the boys last summer in Orillia you were not allowed to dance I had floors well I danced sucurity tried to give me a space to dance they were good they had a good laugh I wasn't sitting down with George playing are you kidding me
Jeezzus. Gonna have to remember today as the day I realized Thorogood was so much more than the radio hits I knew, which were great don't get me wrong. But I should have made the connection that he was a blues ripper long before today, so that's on me. Dayum. I got some catching up to do.
No matter how many times I watch this or any like it I can't sit still to it. I love such a love affair with the blues. Then when you just put legends like this together. It could be what we just seeing in this video or it could be anybody from junior to rl on down-the-line. Would have love to have seen one or any of so many different shows whether they were by themselves or with other people. There is no matching anything talking about the Blues and the players. A white boy from the sticks always said. I knew Chuck Berry before I knew Elvis.
Was browsing my concert ticket stubs recently and was reminded that this concert we went to was part of an MTV special. So glad to get to reminisce from 35 years ago! Should watch the whole concert from beginning to end - so cool as each guy came out one by one and then altogether for this song
Some may be critical of GT but he could rock it with the best. Love the respect and acknowledgement he showed the masters! He truly is a student and appreciates where he learn’t it! He took it to the next level, best compliment of all, the Masters dug it!
I saw George and the Destroyers once, I believe around 1994. They opened for ZZ Top. Couldn’t have asked for a better opening act. One of my top 5 concerts, maybe top 3.
... how bout the #1 fan in the front row with the yellow trucker hat, and towel around his neck? Very classy, and smart move by Mr. Thorogood there. Pretty neat to see him step off of the stage, and enjoy the legendary show amongst the fans, after all he is, and always has been a huge fan of all of those guys, and it's absolutely evident in his music. Love me some George Thorogood, he's one of a very few modern day players that made the classic blues their own. Truly awesome video, thanks for sharing👍😎
I don't know if anyone younger than 60 truly appreciates the assembled talent onstage on this particular night.....I have only one word: EPIC.....GT is the real deal too. As a musician, I've always admired his unique talent.
Une chance magnifique d'être née dans les années 50/60 sur le plan musicale nous sommes béni des Dieu merci à tous les artistes qui nous ont offert le meilleurs d'eux- même.
WILLIE DIXON wrote over 500 songs and his work has been recorded by some of the best-known blues musicians of his era, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Little Walter.
I first heard George Thorogood in 1977 when a sample copy of his first record was sent to the record store I was working in. I didn't think he would make it big, but I loved it.
JLH and Willie exiting the stage like they did was very significant 85 was about the end of their generation of blues guys and they were turning it over to the young players george then says the"blues are forever' pretty amazing or maybe this weed is better than i thought or [and this is closer to the truth] im full of crap ' ' '
My Dad was drinking buddies with George Thorogood back in the mid to late 70s, and has quite a few tales to share, not always glamorous, decorative, or legal... but quite interesting to say the least. If Thorogood liked to "drink alone," a lot of crazy things happened once he had company. Thorogood and John Lee; this is the stuff, man...
So blessed to have seen both these artists. JLH at JJ"s in Mountain View. CA. George at a state fair in Colorado. It rained like a mofo but it didn't discourage anybody and George just played on through. Like 35 years ago.
when you're feeling down, put this on.........a little John Hammond and a little John Lee Hooker add in a dash of George Thorogood and just go with it, baby....the best........and love that no matter their age, they're rockin' .....and we had all this..................blues and rock.....Black Betty by Ram Jam and Georgia Satellites, Keep your hands to yourself.........so many. God bless everyone, be happy............
Went to LSU in the early 60's..JLH was a fixture in local clubs....still just as great now as then...Slim Harpo shared a lot of stage time... Memories!
John Lee ""BOOGIE Chillun " the Healer " Hooker ☆■♤■♡■♢■♧ . John Fred and the Playboys came up in the late 50s with a great cover version ,more faster .He was only 21 y ears old Great stuff . THANX for uploading this Great Show case
I hope that new generations are learning what's the meaning of Mr 'Boogie Chillen' John Lee Hooker... Also I would like to mention a real Talent like Thorogood, much underestimated I think... Cheers from London guys.
Greg Ward I went to that show on July 5th 1984 it was a one night only and it was only maybe $15 for everybody it was great I was about to 3rd row stage left never forget it
Never thought Elvin Bishop ever got the recognition he deserved. Killer slide and blues player.
I heard Bishop witn Sammy Hagar live. It didnt even come close to George & Dixon here. This truely a rare, beautiful moment.
Elvin also was a known force as a writer, see "Fooled Around and Fell in Love".

Merci pour les informations.
Absolutely
I was just really starting to sneak into clubs like this to see music like this around this time. I was so young and man, did I get myself in some trouble from time to time. All, totally worth it.
What a show to have been at
R&R
I met JLH backstage, locally, in 1989. As great a man as ever! Music and memories are long lived!
It's a sheer joy to watch them all playing the kind of music that will never fade.
this show is stacked with legends i wish i could of been there
I have told many, over the years, Thorogood is underrated. This has long been proof; so many legends came to jam with him and the band!✊🏽🤘🏽✌🏽
A whole 18 years before I was born!🤣
I'm trying to imagine Mr Hooker stepping onto the stage when I was in my blues band twenty years ago. I'd have just about fainted with the sheer joy and love and pride of it.
George: You have The Boogie 🥰and even Albert Collins joined the session !! JLH is a legend. Plus Willie Dixon. Wow, I'm stunned.
Nobody going to mention the great Willie Dixon. This guy wrote so many blues standards its mind blowing.
3
Thanx for the mention, and you are so right!
Saw Willie Dixon at Keystone Berkeley c. 1980 - one of many classic shows around that time
Ps - saw John Lee several times at same venue - up front on the dance floor!
He's being noticed! He's having a great time!!
Saw Lonesome George twice in concert,He should of been in the Hall Of Fame years ago he's the real deal!!!!!!
Great dúo John lee hoocker and George Torogood Willie Dixon and Albert Collins, with your Boogie part two 🎸🎸🥁🎹🎷
What a band, and three legendary guitar players, George, Elvin and Albert Lee, the Master of the Telecaster.
If George is there, it's a party! Looks like John Lee also had a good time! These two are great together.
This guy knows what good music is he has covered some of the best!! As well as some good shit of his own!!! Love George!!! John Lee Hooker is one of the greatest blues men ever!!!
George Loves his music. And he always gets great people to join.Fantastic!
One great musician excitedly introducing a legend... Doesn't get much better than this. It's things like this that make me realize everything's gonna be alright. Troubles are sure to come, but they can be overcome.
When I said "introducing a legend," I should have said "introducing legends." Even better.
Just go to clarksdale ms. And support the blues.
This entire concert blows my mind- all the greats playing with George and the Destroyers- what a great show! I have watched this over and over and it is one of the BEST in my eyes. I hope to see George and the boys make it back to my neck of the woods next year😉

Gotta be one of the most underrated artists out there, what a perfect collaboration. Lonesome George heyyyy heyyyyyyyyyyy!,👌🤣🏴
An absolutely all-star lineup with so many legends that have now left us.
George brings in the heavy hitters, incredible.
“The beautiful city of Detroit Michigan”
You damn right George!!
I used to have the same shirt George is wearing here. I wore it out...shreded to the thread. I want another one.
No matter how many times I watch this or any like it I can't sit still to it. I love such a love affair with the blues. Then when you just put legends like this together. Fantastic I wish I was there!!!
Love them all!
😎👍🍺🎸
Let that boy boogie-woogie!
wow, what a show. "The blues is forever" exactly thats it!
Imagine being there listening to this? Absolutely outstanding.
This would have been amazing to seen this whole show live
Somehow I came from an endless clicks of channels; Frome black metal, to punk rock, to classic rock , to this. Incredible.
Was browsing my concert ticket stubs recently and was reminded that this concert we went to was part of an MTV special. So glad to get to reminisce from 35 years ago!
Should watch the whole concert from beginning to end - so cool as each guy came out one by one and then altogether for this song
Quite a few blues masters sharing the stage here. Wow!
Some may be critical of GT but he could rock it with the best. Love the respect and acknowledgement he showed the masters! He truly is a student and appreciates where he learn’t it! He took it to the next level, best compliment of all, the Masters dug it!
Who has been critical of GT?
I saw George and the Destroyers once, I believe around 1994. They opened for ZZ Top. Couldn’t have asked for a better opening act. One of my top 5 concerts, maybe top 3.
Look at George’s face at 2:32 mannnn he looks so happy to be able to jam with his idol
This is freaking historic!
Man all these concerts they keep showing from the Capitol Theatre back in those days. What a time to live in New Jersey and go to that venue.
MrSmokeydog that's what I keep thinking
Yep, I saw Mahavishnu there too
What part of New Jersey when you're not talkin about Westfield New Jersey
Never had a better summer!
Just listened to a few tracks my dad liked when he was still around and now I got the blues fever.
Freaking awesome!!!
I FEEL ALLRIGHT WITH THIS MUSIC !!!

I've never seen Thorogood. But man I wish I had, that Boy ROCKS !
George Thorogood, I heard on the radio is coming to my city ! Yeah Baby you know it.
The Ice Man, The Master of the Telecaster, Mr. Albert Collins!!!!
Years ago, I heard John Lee interviewed on the syndicated Blues Deluxe radio show. He claimed that there would be no blues without women. Thoughts?
WILLIE DIXON wrote over 500 songs and his work has been recorded by some of the best-known blues musicians of his era, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Little Walter.
