- Over the weekend, the MTA pulled several R62A train sets from service to proactively tune-up their air conditioning systems in preparation for the upcoming work week. R142s from the 2 line filled in for these trains over the weekend, a smart decision! Enjoy!

R142 1 trains might become an everyday thing in the future, depending on what the MTA does with the R262 car assignments.
No they won’t
@@AzAzMusic actually i saw videos that speculated what could happen with the R262 car assignments.
One possibility is that they could go to the 2, 3, 4 and 5 express lines because it would make more sense to have the trains with higher capacity on the express lines. This would displace the R142 and R142A units currently on the 2, 4, and 5 lines to the 1 and 6 lines, with the 3 line possibly receiving R142 trains as well.
Another possibility is for the 4, 5, and 6 lines to receive the R262 trains. Knowing that Lexington Avenue is one of the busiest subway lines in the system, it would also make sense to have the higher capacity trains run there. This would push the R142 and R142A trains currently assigned to the 4 and 5 lines over to the 1 and 3 lines, which haven’t got a chance to use new tech trains before.
@@AzAzMusic just because the 1, 3, and 6 lines currently use R62 and R62A trains doesn’t exactly mean that the R262 trains would be solely for those lines. Think about it, the R160 order replaced the R40 trains, but R160s did not go to lines like the A and B trains, which ran them at the time.

Right like the R62A on the 6 either I think the MTA should at least consider upgrading these lines with some new trains
P Jay i mean the r62s & r62As still run well they’re only 30-34 years in service. If its only AC woes they can stay in service for another 5-10 years

Well the AC “fix” either didn’t work or wasn’t applied to many of the cars. Both 1 trains I rode today had no AC at all and were pretty unbearable.

Alright status update: the temporary fix may not have done anything but the freshly SMSed cars have nice frigid AC. So at least it is possible.

I love R142s 😍 and the (1) line is special to me because it's the line that gets me to where my family lives when I visit New York (I was born in New York but moved away when I was 10)
The (1) line is my favorite and is special to me too because it was the first line a road as a kid

its because 125th street is on the top

Why were the R142 1 trains signed up as to 242 when all trains terminated at 137??
Why the R62A's??!! Have you even felt the air conditioners on the R142's? Or lack of. They rarely produce any air at all.
If you have ever commuted on the 1 line you would know why. Most of the R62As have either no AC at all or pathetically weak AC.

This is amazing. If I didn’t kill my time just to look for an Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard, Queens-bound R46 (A) train to fan on from Fulton Street to Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard, Queens, it would’ve been a fortune for me to show up and fan that train. Ugh, sometimes, sucks to be me LOL XD XD

It'll take some time to get used to it cause by the time the r262 arrive and complete the order six of the numbers would utilize half of the standard cars r142 and the other half is the r262

Agent Ninja They’re structurally fine. They are one of the systems most reliable cars. The R32s and R42s should’ve been retired a few years ago, but due to other cars having structural issues and L train shutdown-related service increases, the retirement will have to wait longer.
That feels so messed up even the display couldn't handle it...

There's a point in having R142s on the 1, 3 and 6.
I don't have a problem with the r62 on the 1 train but I would like to see at least a couple of sets permanently on the 1 as well.

At approximately 2:53 to 3:00 and again at 3:30 to 3:50 I can make out a distinctive code 3 (fire warning) signal in the background. That’s never a good sign.

@@TheRailLeaguer Now you're bothering me with this. THE 2 LINE. That line shares 1,080 cars with the 5 Line. With some just sitting in 239th, East 180, and Unionport Yards. They can run a set to South Ferry and turn it into a 1. Simple. THink before you comment. The 1 runs with the 2.
R160B D Train Productions The actual number is 815. Also, there are enough R62As on the 1 to handle weekday and weekend needs on that line. No need to borrow unless it’s for weekend loaners due to construction and/or extra service.
They Should Put An R142A 1 Train
MTA System One problem: Where do you propose they take that R142A on when no one wants to give up their NTT cars. Instead, they should make the R62A assignments like this:
(1): 1926-1960, 2161-2475 (350) (35 trains)
(6): 1651-1900, 1961-2160 (450) (45 trains)
(S): 1901-1908, 1910-1925 (24) (24 *3- and 4-car trains)
*Will be reconfigured in the near future. Once all said and done, two 6-car trains will operate independently on each of the soon to be two tracks of the line.

Railfanning8 The R62As are doing just fine on the 1 route. In fact, the 1 is not in line for new techs until the R262s arrive. Rather, they might send over a few R142As for the 42nd Street Shuttle.

With the way the 2 and 5 operate, no.
Aside from the 1 having enough trains to make service under normal circumstances, new stock can directly replace the R62/As when the time comes.
That means need to make a strip map for it

They are going to have them on the line permanently very soon. There will also be an express 1 train skipping multiple stops riding on the 2 and 3 line from 96st to chambers. This is huge for the 1 line. To not utilize the express track on the 1 line is a massive disservice.
