- Weekend construction and maintenance work required the operation of the 4 line in two sections. The south section, operating between 125th St and New Lots Avenue, required the use of some R62A consists from the 6 line.

Back in 2020, I rode one of these classics on the 4 and it was the first time I rode a non-NTT on the 4 line since the R62's left the 4 in 2010.
Imagine the MTA adds a few R62as on the 5 line

THE 2 AND 5 DID BOTH USE R62As AFTER 9/11 FROM September 12 2001 To September 21 2002
hands down. the R62 is the coolest (in service) looking cars for these lines
Those R62As look great on the (4) Line...wish they could do this more often on weekends. Also I liked a lot of the different variety of angles you were choosing to film the R62A (4) Trains. You do such a great job on making your videos look as great as possible.

FUN FACT: The IND's color pattern follows the order of the rainbow's colors, with the exception of orange and indigo.
Rainbow: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet/purple

9:48 a 6 train!
For the first time in March on a Sunday I rode one it was unexpected I wanted to ride a R142A but i found this baby at Kingston Avenue and I was hoping to ride another one from Borough Hall but I caught a R142. It was aight but I enjoyed riding it!
This makes me wonder why the 7 line had to take ALL the R142As from the 6 line instead of just taking SOME R142As from there and taking the rest of the R142As that it needed from the 4 line. Did the 4 line have any R142As before the 6 and 7 line swap?

Wow! This has been extremely rare during my days traveling from the Bronx to Manhattan, when I was a college student.
Hopefully it stays like this cause I'd like to see the 3 and 4 share the same equipment, at least during Rush hours. I'd also like some of the R142/A's from the 4 to go on the 6.
UnitedStatesOfEmbarrassment10018 Having the 3 and 4 share the same fleet, and giving the 4 line fleet to the 6 is NOT NECESSARY. The 6 is fine being 100% R62As and the 3 and 4 have almost NOTHING IN COMMON.
Some R142s share the 6 line.

The Most Talented Artist definitely, I remember when they had the Blue Stickered Fleet numbers in the 62As in the 3. I even remember when they only had 9 cars instead of 10.
Antony Diaz yup. And then, the (3)'s R62As went to the 42nd Street Shuttle. That time, those single unit cars on the shuttle also had blue stickers too. It's too bad the MTA removed it, but at least, with and without the blue stickers, you can at least tell they belong to the 42nd Street Shuttle line

Yeah, as the "4" held the R62s at the time, until the R142 and R142As started coming in.
Just like old times. Exception these are ex Flushing 7 line ( nee 6 Pelham Lexington Avenue Local) . On 2 occasions I rode them as the 4 train. 🙂

I wish we could get about 120 of the R62 and regauge them for Philly. We down bad, my g.😂 about 80 cars for base service on the El from what I'm hearing.

I agree!! I grew up in Brooklyn, and the last stop on the 4 train wss Utica Avenue, which wss UNDERGROUND!!! Where is this???? Did the 4 go to New lots Avenue on these runs??? I live in the Bronx now and the 4 runs elevated there.
Why no subtitles in this video?? Can't read the station names, it would be nice to know where we are! I know the first stop on the 4 train is Utica Av enue, because I lived there when I was a kid! But I don't recognize any of the el stations! Haven't been there in about 50 years!!

These trains should stay on the 4. The 6 can have more R142As that way.
Tsutarja495 No thank you. The 6 is fine being 100% R62As. Also, having both NTT and OTTs at an IRT yard that is not 207th Street Overhaul would cause maintenance problems due to a needlessly large parts inventory. This would cause the shop workers to have a hard time doing their jobs due to having a huge parts inventory to sort through, and would cause the cars to be delayed going back into service. Result: reliability issues.

The 4 can actually get back the R62As but it will have to come from either the Westchester Yard on the 6 or the 242St Yard on the 1 and switch over to the 3 line and then change the rollsigns

No they can't. Besides the 1 ,3 and 6 need their required number of cars. Besides, the 4 already has their own equipment. Expect more IRT car movements when the R262's arrive, Such as the 2, 4, 5, 6 and 42nd street shuttle to receive the R262's to make the R142/A's to the 1 and 3 (Which would be foamworthy for those foamers) BUT HOWEVER, 1841-1900 can move from the 1 to the 4 for extra use while the 6 pushes out 2221-2225, 2346-2350, 2456-2470 to the 1 since the 6 has enough cars now with them receiving some 1900's singles from the 42nd street shuttle.
How many sets of R62a did they put on the 4 line cause I saw so many

Mashed Tomato The were plans to construct one in 1951, but due to funding issues and lack of need, it never went anywhere past the engineering study.

Wish half of R62S from the 6 were sent to the 4
Flutershy Fluters Why? This would cause maintenance problems on the IRT and delays repairs due to having a complex parts inventory. This would result in cars taking too long to be repaired and go back into service, and cause reliability issues. Leave the 6 100% R62As and leave the 4 50% R142 and 50% R142A.
