I'm a subway operator from Munich, Germany, and i hope to someday travel to NYC, not just for the beautiful city, but also for the subway, sadly i wont see the older models in service i think.
The only train models in service left are the:
R46
R62
R62A
R68
R68A
R142
R142A
R143
R160A (or just R160)
R160B (or R160 Siemens)
R179
Most likely the R46, R62, R62A will be retired by the time you get here by the upcoming R211 and R262.
Some R68's or R68A's will retire once the R211 comes. It's not guaranteed that the whole fleet of them will retire. The R68/A's are probably going to still be in service, but it will be rare to see them.
@@jaydottt_transitfanner update: the r46s and r68s have yet to retire and r211s are fully in service. so we might not see those 2 trains retire for a while

Yep. Ten car 160's during a G.O. The crew office had me work it a couple times. The CIB's were tough to find when I had to point at it after my partner stopped at his marker.

At one point the G line was by far the most dangerous in New York City, and was to be avoided by even the most seasoned New Yorker. Part of it had to do with add the time did the train did not go into Manhattan and served only Brooklyn and Queens and was a one-man train meaning no conductor and all hell broke loose and people died, more than once. I used to love taking the G train from Rego Park to Downtown Brooklyn. Especially on Friday Morning. I would listen to en entire side of what I recorded on Stretch and Bobbito show :)

This move should be done in conjunction with a Queens Bypass Line, which would pave the way for deinterlining of the heavily used line. With this, F trains, which use the 63rd Street Line, would shift to the new bypass line and run out to Jamaica Center. The E train would run to 179th Street. A new Rockaway Beach service would be built, and M trains, which presently use the 53rd Street Tunnel, would be rerouted along the 63rd Street Tunnel and bypass line, then into the Rockaway Beach Branch to Far Rockaway. A train service would be rerouted to Rockaway Park.
The R would replace N service on Astoria, with the N going via the Second Avenue Subway with the Q.
@JeremiahC99 The R once ran to Astoria-Ditmars, but swapped northern terminals with the N, which ran to Forest Hills, so it could gain direct yard access to Jamaica Yard. Previously, R trains had to deadhead from Coney Island Yard.
I hope MTA restore G train service to Forest Hills. It was a lot less time travelling between Brooklyn & Queens. Plus you didn't have to go through Manhattan at all. I also hope MTA consider running the G train all times to Coney Island, so, that way the F train can run express on the Culver Line during rush peak hours.
The F and G should switch Brooklyn terminals and have the F run express from Church avenue to Bergen Street. (reopen the lower level at Bergen Street) it would make the G more reliable and the F trains wouldn't be as crowded
@The vintage idiot. Not true, the platform has simply been bricked in with concrete blocks, it is still usable, staircases are still there.

With all the newcomers occupying those new high-rises on 4th ave and the new buildings on Smith st. the only direct service to Manhattan would be the slow running R train. Or transfer at Hoyt/Schermerhorn. Good idea but don't hold you breath.
@@rodeliot You forgot a transfer to F train at Bergen. As for the R train, they just have to increase frequency by extending the W. How hard can that be?
@@willyberesford6964 Bergen street transfer uses stairs. Your ideas are good but they all require added investment in rolling stock. R179s were almost 5 years behind schedule and over budget. A lot of this had to do with Bombardier but still, adding cars is no easy task.

I always wanted to go to Coney Island but I always heard it was a long train ride and never went well a couple years ago I went and loved it

R160'S make a great fit for the (G) Train. They have a better lengthening on the station's platforms. Those sets double the amount of space that the R68'S create, when those are sets of 4 cars.
But problem is MTA already has to many cars and can't order New ones since they already ordered the R179's and when CBTC is on the F from Church Ave to Coney Island half of the R160's will be on the F because of more ridership on the F probably.

At least any set(s) of 8 cars of R160A'S would make a good fit for the (G) Train. The (G) Train has been quite a disaster, and they are also shorter than a train-set that would operate the (J) Train. The (E) & (F) Trains are already long enough to level with an entire station's platform. :)
