I am from Ga too. The first time I heard of it was when an Attorney brought it to our Court for us to try. She was from the North. I tried making it once and the recipe was a bad one. I ended up with a soggy mess. Now I know why. I am going to try it again.
You're absolutely right, there is NOTHING like a home grown tomato. I used to grow tomatoes every year. But, as I've gotten older, I just don't have the energy for it anymore. However, I'm lucky to have a local farmer's market right up the road from my house and I'm in there pretty much every week replenishing my tomato supply. I eat my weight in those tomatoes every summer. You can either buy them in the market or, for less cents a pound, go out to their tomato fields and pick your own. But when I grew them myself, I would often pick one of the tomatoes off the vine and just sit outside and eat it like you would an apple. I eat them in some form most days of the week. But one of the best summer treats ever is a tomato sandwich. And, of course, the classic BLT.
I was getting ready to fix my tomato pie & came across your version. I think I’m going to mix it up & follow your recipe. I use to make for my Mother when she moved to Georgia with me. She had never had it and Loved it, and my co-worker !! A must every Summer !!

Glad I found your channel. You look, sound and instruct like a cooking teacher in school. We loved her! Got us interested in doing home cooking and not growing up eating fast foods and processed foods. Well I can only speak for myself. I think they stopped teaching cooking in schools now?
Tomato pie? How did I get thru so many years, 76 of them, & not hear of tomato pie? Your pie looks wonderful. A home grown, ripe, tomato is my favorite food. I must make this pie! As I eat vegan I will use a vegan bacon & dairy free cheese, of which there are many delicous ones that melt well. As for the egg white, I think I'll make an exception & go ahead & use that. Yum! Wish I had a piece of tomato pie right now. Thank you so much for this recipe!

😮 my Romas are just starting to blush here in Iowa, still have a couple of weeks on slicers I think. Weather has been nuts but we’ve got some hot days coming and I’ll be swimming in tomatoes (yippee!). This sounds terrific especially in the middle of canning season.
