  • This video shows you how to recycle a laptop power adapter to DIY a variable power supply. The power supply can easily supply electrical appliances with different working voltages, such as driving small motors and charging batteries.
    We need the following things:
    1. A laptop power adapter, we also can recycle the old laptop’s power adapter so we do n’t have to buy a transformer;
    2. A voltage ammeter, which can display the output voltage and current at the same time;
    3. A DC to DC adjustable step-down power supply board;
    4. two Banana Jack Sockets;
    5. A Female Power Jack Socket;
    6. A Resistance Potentiometer;
    7. A transparent plastic box, we can recycle one from plastic packaging boxes so you don't have to buy it.
    The total cost is only $14, So very cheap and environmentally friendly.

      What’s wrong with your power supply ?

    What formula did you use to get 50k ohms of potentiometer

    You can't adjust the current right?

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  3 года назад +1

      Yes, it can only adjust the voltage.

    • @johnmacedo4483
      @johnmacedo4483 3 года назад +1

      The XL4005 is limited to only one potentiometer. If you want to adjust both voltage and current. Simply replace the XL4005 module with, for example, the XL4015 buck converter. That way you will be able to use two potentiometers instead one just one.

      @@johnmacedo4483 yeah, I thought so. That is why I bought a buck converter with current and voltage limiter. Thank you for your suggestion.

    Where to buy the parts?

    • @DIYQiQi

      ebay or digikey

    BTW can I use a speed controller instead?

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  3 года назад +1

      The voltage waveform output by the speed controller is a PWM wave, which is not suitable for powering non-motor loads : )

    actually the multimeter voltage is accurate than that cheap voltage meter in your power supply.

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  2 года назад

      Of course, multimeter is professional device.

    • @Comrade_YG
      @Comrade_YG Год назад

      No one wants to measure the voltage with a multi meter every time you turn the potentiometer

    • @DIYQiQi
      @DIYQiQi  Год назад

      You are right. The voltmeter that comes with the power supply does not need to be very accurate. Using a simple voltmeter is enough.
