Watching the current video of him visit the "GT3 museum" for the new 992 edition (and take a gander at all the lovely GT3 generations) reminded me of this video. Happy to see him in Topgear now - he was always a great reviewer and deserves his current success, IMHO.
Depends on what you want. The Turbo is a hell of a machine. A simple tune and you are flying. I havent driven a GT3 but rode shotgun in one (997.1) and it seemed pretty damn impressive just sitting in it. Both amazing cars.
Chris made a good point about loaded up Carrera's costing even more than the GT3. No crazy alternating color stitching interior, carbon this-n-that or other what not for me, thanks Ill just take a guard red GT3
Great quote of the noise the GT3 makes: (1:15)i love when people when people say that they don't sound as the old air cooled cars, cause that's other ..beep.. this car sounds wonderfull
I'm surprised that revs seem low for a gt3, the later 3.8 went to 8200 or something like that. Seems like a big jump, or maybe i remember wrong, and then 9000 for 991
I know, I know. They cared about nothing else but lap times when designing the GT-R but around most tracks it's on average only half a second quicker than 911 turbo or old GT3 RS. Maybe this GT3 will eventually turn out to be quicker.
@ahpadt The only one that springs to mind (my mind anyways) is the current BMW M3 and its greater brother the oncoming M3 GTS. The first being a car that offers a similar value/performance ratio than the GT3. The latter being an equally uncompromised racing car. And let's not forget the M5 which resides in a similar price range as the GT3. Btw: i am just bringing those up for the sake of argument and must say that I do love them Porsches :)
@ilikechocolatecake Haha, how did I know you were going to resort to the GTR and/or something second hand? I haven't driven this or the GTR, but while I love and respect them both, for feel and involvement, I'd say this has the GTR beaten, and for a proper driving enthuiast who drives on 'proper' roads and tracks, that means so much more than being the fastest. As for discussing tuning a second hand car as an option; that is irrelevant for reasons so obvious I'm not going to type them.
i can't stand you guys arguing about zr1, gt-r and gt3, and which will outperform which. they're all GREAT cars, but performance doesn't really matter. zr1 is about scaring the shit out of you with its billion hoursepower, gt-r is about sounding like a vacuum-cleaner while doing 2 lateral-G's and gt3 is about awesome racecar mechanical feel which is sooo rare in modern day cars. i personally prefer gt3, but it's a matter of taste, not pure performance.
gtr and gt3. both great cars not true to the video game like handling for the gtr its still a hand full when vdc is off and pushed hard a very potent car I must say. gt3 engine sounds better and more nimble either way love them both after I have actually driven them
Like? I challenge you to find something cheaper which performs better and is more reliable. A GT-R will overheat after 1 lap of the Ring so that's out already.
There's nothing fake about laptimes, nissan lapped it quicker than the turbo and so did Bruno senna himself in 5th gear show. Even nissan did the lap again recently in front of porsche representitives to prove they couldn't drive. Warranty, same rubbish I hear, "when GPS knows that you are in a track, it will blow the gearbox into pieces." BTW I do prefer the GT3 and ahpadt is right about mechanical ineraction, but I just can't stand people not getting some facts right, and appreciate a little
@c0nv1ct1337 In fairness, the European equivalents, while costing more "handle" better in terms of roadfeel. Granted, there's not a lot n them as far as laptimes, but no1 lives on a track.
@c0nv1ct1337 Obviously I am worth your time. Worth enough for you to try and convince me that modern American cars aren't rubbish. Which you have failed by the way.

Chris Harris is hilarious" let's go for a steer" straight comedy

Agreed its hard to say one is better than the other. They really are amazing machines in their own way.
Chris made a good point about loaded up Carrera's costing even more than the GT3. No crazy alternating color stitching interior, carbon this-n-that or other what not for me, thanks Ill just take a guard red GT3
My my... This must be one of the best sounding Porsches ever. I'll start saving for one now ;)
gravitybureau just checking in, have you saved up yet??
@@Monocerus90 They are twice that now!
Great quote of the noise the GT3 makes: (1:15)i love when people when people say that they don't sound as the old air cooled cars, cause that's other ..beep.. this car sounds wonderfull
it doesn't get any better than this... a lot of people I know love the Turbo over the GT3... please... I'll take a GT3 over a Turbo any day
I must admit I'm not the biggest 911 fan but that noise this car made in sport mode was unbelievable
I'm surprised that revs seem low for a gt3, the later 3.8 went to 8200 or something like that. Seems like a big jump, or maybe i remember wrong, and then 9000 for 991
He just had a brainfart moment. He meant 8400 -> 8500.
"That is utter %$#! Because this car sounds wonderful!"
It is. I'm very sure that Chris is aware of that slight mistake aswell.
I know, I know. They cared about nothing else but lap times when designing the GT-R but around most tracks it's on average only half a second quicker than 911 turbo or old GT3 RS.

Can anyone help with what the soundtrack music is? or what type of music it is?
@dan90x Jethro is with CAR magazine.
@ahpadt

love the face impression when he's talking about the engine noise compared to aircooled era :)
"O, your kidding ....." that's so sick!!!!!
@PoggiiBonsii
That is utter ****! - Chris Harris
@ahpadt thats the difference between win and fail.
my favorite car in production today
(my favorite car ever is the carrera gt :)

Chris Harris is the best auto journalist ever.
awesome car!! fantastic job porsche..great video too

@speedycatz Respect for Chris Harris, he is the best. Let's put it this way, it sounds superior to any V8 (flat- plane or detroit) .
@dan90x
Thanks for the info.
THANKS
FOR THE VIDEO
...plus the gearbox falls apart everytime you get near throttle
watch?v=uRvYyzDHES0
Is DR really dead/ever coming back??
Doesn't even come close to the mechanical interaction you get with the GT3. The GT-R sounds boring aswell.
Like? I challenge you to find something cheaper which performs better and is more reliable. A GT-R will overheat after 1 lap of the Ring so that's out already.
Sounds good.....

@ahpadt
Oh come on now - a GTR will overheat? Just because one GTR overheated doesnt mean anything mate. Id still rather a GT3 tho :D
@c0nv1ct1337 handling and american cars don't really go together in a sentence. unless you put a 'don't' in front of handling.
THE 911 GT3 IS VERY NICE. THEY SELL FOR 135K IN THE USA. I SEEN THEM.
more of that noise please ....
he's really amazed by the value for money ratio. Hmmmm, no competitor? Ok, I'll bring here Nissan GT-R.
the aircooled, the aircooled, yes this sounds very good. but ..not as good as an ......aircooled......and it never will
@c0nv1ct1337

i sounds like wonderbaum!!!!
Can barely hear anything
Chris is already doing videos for EVO. Check out my profile, I hotlink the videos from evo's own youtube profile.
Well then of course there is the OTHER Turbo.
Poor video and audio quality but great content!
The original video is nearly 10 years old.......
ahpadt I remember watching them back in the day I don't more than working that bad.
GT3 > 911 Turbo
If Chris was gay I would turn gay but im not gay lmao
@c0nv1ct1337 Obviously I am worth your time. Worth enough for you to try and convince me that modern American cars aren't rubbish. Which you have failed by the way.
sex, basically...
mehh... when will i ever get to afford 1
Video quality is shit. Such a decent fellow with a good sense of humor, too bad he wastes is by recording with what seems to be an iPhone.
It was filmed nearly 10 years ago before HD was a thing....
Who is running the channel now?
