I drove one of these at Exotics Racing in Las Vegas... It was a truly special car- I drove a ferrari f430, and a lamborghini lp560 gallardo the same day, both cars from roughly the same year. The porsche absolutely was the best car- hands down! the handling was totally unreal! It made me a better driver, what an amazing machine!
People never understand Porsches until they drive them. Then they understand what all the noise is about. They are pretty close to perfect, especially if they are configured in a manual.
@Jimmy Two Times care to mention what bores you about it? And which Porsche it is? Because you could get bored driving an F1 car...if you lived on a gravel road lol so I'm just curious what it is that's causing you to find it boring. If it's a cayenne and you never take it above 50, sure. But Porsche's, generally, are the pinnacle example of cars that are the opposite of boring, in almost any context
couldn't agree more. Took my dads 993 carrera 2 (manual) for a road trip, man was it fantastic. Sure it doesn't pull like a modern supercar but man the noise, the handling and the feel of those gear changes is sublime!! a true sports car in all its glory. totally changed my idea on Porsche. I now dream of a 997 GT3. Brilliant cars
I have been privileged to drive close to 1000 laps in just about every GT3. The best is the 996RS. The 997RS shared essentially the same platform but the addition of PASM and electronic diff intervention - via the read brakes - made it unpredictable on the limit. The 996RS is a more analog experience
Huge fan, love that car. Had the opportunity to drive one at "SpeedVegas" for 7 laps (2020 GT3 RS) and it was the most fun I've ever had, and I've flown jets.
Video Idea: Having Richard and James select favorite vehicles in categories, "British, American, Coupe or Sedan," And have them drive each other's. Keep up the Great Work! Tribe on!
That comment of that particular episode! I thought the same! Was a teen then - and for me it was either supercars or JDM turbo cars. Never had a second thought for the porsche that Hammond brought. Wasn't until I start driving that I've really enjoyed razor sharp dynamics. And appreciated cars beyond what the top trump spec sheets show. Perhaps some day!
As a previous 997.1 GT3 owner, I think the 997.1 GT3RS is the most overvalued GT3 on earth. The 997.2 is WAY better. In the US all you got extra over a normal GT3 was 2-pc front control arms, the bigger rear wing, single mass flywheel, sunroof delete, and that's about it. The 997.2 GT3RS (which I owned as well) had a ton of differences, and is a much better car.
Wow. I totally relate to your story of not caring for the Porsche as a youngster lol. Used to find all Porsches so boring. Then at age 17 I saw a 997 GT3 in a parking lot and thought “hmm this looks interesting” Then not much else until I reached 23-24. I started to understand all the hype. Porsches really are the business. Especially GT3’s. So it quickly became my top favorite dream car. At age 26 I just got to thrash on a 991.2 GT3 equipped with the PDK on backroads for a whole week. Wouldn’t choose any other car over it.
Out of the early gen GT3 RS', the 997.2 4.0 is my fav. My neighbour used to own a full Carbon rebuilt 997.1 GT3 Manual till it got into a hit and run accident with a truck while parked in a carpark. It always seemed like neither a 996 at the rear nor a 997 at the front. It looks neither here nor there. Would prefer the 996 GT2 over the 997.1 GT3 RS.
I think a lot of people back then had the same opinion on Porsche I certainly did, I actually hated them but as I am older and maybe slightly wiser I do appreciate them more and I wouldn't say no to a Porsche. Great video a great to see Jimmy as a cameo 🤣👍
I really agree when he said that when he was young he found porsches boring, becauss we had the same perspective back then. But as i grow older and cars got more tech, the GT3 is now the ultimate drivers car in my opinion, just the purity of one is heart melting
Kids like flashy things thats why Lambo's are so popular with young kids and rappers but once you actually DRIVE them instead of just posing next to them you will realize the 997 GT3RS is the perfect drivers car and is so much better than anything coming from Lambo.
@@fskof completely agree. Those who know, know, those who don’t will when they drive. Part of me wishes i had never gone for the red pill over the blue, but I did and now there’s no turning back.
Here’s a tricky thing for Hammond. Best car he’s ever reviewed over the years. In the same format as best or favorite grand tour car or best top gear car.
Okay, I’ve now remembered why I sold it, it was my daily and it was horrible to drive around town. Heavy clutch, stupidly solid suspension, and in the uk, used to mist up and the washer jets would freeze in winter. No practicality. Wrong car for me at the time (I also had an ultima gtr at that time too).
My Porsche accelerates like a cheetah, steers like a cat on carpet, handles like it’s part of the road and stops even better. Non Porsche owners/drivers just don’t understand the difference.
Iconic RR layout practically more sensitive and better handling characteristics than a usual MR layout. Plus it's H6 further lowering the center of gravity and sheesh. Plus it's RWD, lol sorry I'm not a fan of AWD too much grip. In the games I played it feels like heaven. Surely my favorite Supercar
He's so right as a kid I turned my nose up at porches because Jeremy would always say their squashed beetles. The I heard one of my grandma's neighbors rev their gt3 and fell in love
4:02 = I'm pretty much convinced all 911s, have a dry sump , and so by essence because of the engine's architecture , same for other flat engines like the ferraris"bb", testa/512. You can't actually do otherwise with the crankshaft at the same level as the horizontal cylinders.
I met Richard once, he was shooting a video about a helicopter. I asked him which car was his favorite among all the cars he tested and drove and he said he's favorite was the Porsche 911.
I had a old Subaru….. dunno if it was too early for a legacy but I don’t remember the name loyale (?)….. on some on ramps in Connecticut it was 270 degrees and very tight. It seemed like all the oil was sloshing up against the outside pistons- tons of smoke and ‘I want to die’ noises. Tons of smoke and on to the highway- when it wasn’t pretending to be on its last legs it was quite nippy. It probably weighed a third of a new one and it was a special one one wing mirror model.
Erm...the video is absolutely literally what the title says, it couldn't be less like clickbait...meaning the exact opposite of your statement is true.
I can't say I find Porsche's boring but I don't get the attraction to them that others do. There's a couple that I really, really like but the rest....not so much. It doesn't help that as a kid, we had a big Porsche garage nearby, then as a teen two mates worked there. So seeing Porsche's around and about was as common as seeing Fords, Vauxhalls and Hondas. It made them common, which doesn't mean they're not great, just nothing special to me.

"It's the ultimate version of the ultimate version of the ultimate version of the world's ultimate supercar."

I'm sure the GT2 takes things to another level above the GT3.
And then they came out with the ultimate version of that, the 4.0

Wow that green color replacement for those two shots was incredibly well done. Perfectly matched

It's a simple process :)
They're aren't "matched", it's just keying out orange to replace it with green. Pretty simple stuff. Effective though
I like how Top Gear episodes have basically become petrolhead folklore at this point.

One of the last 'quick' cars that didn't use electric wizardry to make it go.
Yeh, cars back when they had real candles for headlights, so much better. 🙄
The first electric car was invented in the early 1830s.

997.2 RS way overrated most people hate the 3.8
I kind of agree, as a kid I didn’t think much of Porsches. But now as an adult and car enthusiast I know the awesomeness that is Porsche.
Shoutout to Mike
Is it coincidence? We just did a video of GT3 RS yesterday, 997.1 with same color. Now thats funny! Anyway, great content as usual.
Wow! Nice

14 years old...... looks like it just got out of the dealership! just goes to show how timeless porsches really are
It's been stuck in a shed/garage so hasn't been properly driven. (Just bought for monetary value)
One of my top favorite episodes, green GT3RS the dream car
Same experience watching that episode. First I’d likely never own one, second if I did, I’d own a lambo. Today here I am owning 991.1 Gt3rs.
RK07YGT - the number plate on Hammond's car. I may forget my name but I'll never forget that number plate and that car.
