@bambustricc61 Actually it was not fake. The cloth door pulls simply were not ready. I know it, because I developed them for the Boxster Spyder. After we realised that the Boxster Spyder door panel is about 1.2 kg lighter each we decided to use them for the GT3 RS too. If you have a very close look you can see the arm rest which is specific for GT3 RS and Boxster Spyder, too. The RS from the video simply was a test mule that was stickered to make photo car of it.
@vantage789 i noticed the 245/325 mistake.. but that sort of silly error is easily forgiven, when you consider how distracted and preoccupied Chris was by the task of manhandling that brilliant 911 GT3 RS, the finest distillation of the finest of sports cars...
@danthemanpatrick It's the best sound and the worst if you drive for long periods of time. Those cup car transmissions as you will see is just a push up for down shift and push down for upshift, no hydrolic foot operated clutch. So to eliminate the clutch, the syncros have to be made of extremely durable materials and mainly set up differently so that they can mash together without the use of a hydrolic clutch. That's just the sound it makes. Sick right?
@danthemanpatrick The whine is the sound of straight cut gear teeth engaging with each other. Why they make them straight cut instead of helical like road car is for durability and less power loss through transmission. Your car's gearbox has a pair of straight cut gear in it, the reverse gear. The faster you back up your car, the louder the whine.
this car is awesome! i dont care what anyone else thinks. if i came into alot of money this car would be right at the top of my list. it looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous and i recon i could live with it everyday
@MrMnote I got your point. I know that all the driving aids in current Ferraris can be turned off, but it will be (almost) uncontrollable to handle. Yes the 458 has won many awards as one of the greatest road car ever. The 458, 430 Scuderia are one of my favourite Ferrari, and I didn't say that manual gearbox is the ONLY thing that makes a car a true driver's car, other factors such as steering feedback, responsive throttle etc also counts.
@MrMnote I agree with you with almost all your points. I stated that a modern Ferrari with all driving aids are almost uncontrollable, not that uncontrollable at all. Yes an average driver will be faster with the electronic aids turned on as it will maximize grip, reduce oversteer while exiting corners etc. Whatever it is, the term "true driver's car" will always make the driver has more connection with his/her machine. Our preference might be different, and I'm not against Ferrari cars.
how do you know the ferrari's dont handle well without electronics? the 458 has a limited slip differential, i think it would handle just fine without traction control
@LawrenceLugar1 That's a matter of taste but the front drivetrain is much more efficient on the 911! And even the old 996 gt3 with 385hp was as quick as the 360cs so the new one with 70hp more and a better balance and grip would kill it on a track!
@Buttnut105 Orange wheels and huge decals are for hardcore and lightweight Porsches. Even if it is too much, the cars deserve it. Like this GT3 RS. Plus the massive wing is functional. What the Ferrari is showing off really means that those Ferrari (current models) owners are not true drivers. They only have lots of money, driving with paddleshift LOL. Porsche GT cars only offered with manual, less electronic driving assist which gives actual 'driving' experiences.
Hey, I hope no one thinks I'm an idiot for asking/not knowing this, but does anyone know what that metallic whine-type noise is that's coming from the engine of this fantastic GT3 Cup car? I've noticed that quite a lot of GT3-class race cars' engines make this noise. I know the car is naturally aspirated, so it's not a supercharger making the noise, and aside from that, the noise actually rises in pitch along with the speed of the car rather than with the engine RPMs like a supercharger would.
@MrMnote Yes the 996/997 GT2 and especially Carrera GT are very tail-happy and wild, I didn't doubt that, but same with Ferrari, they're like that with the aids turned off. But generally any 911 has a very steady roadholding characteristic mechanically, even without the aid systems, it's physics law.
evo tv vids hate on top gear but i dont see top gear vids hating on evo, get a life, clarkson has admitted that the porsche is a fantastic car, get ur facts straight, he just pretends to be biased on everything cause thats part of his charm. Both are great shows!
the gtr FIA gt1 is also pretty quick. its about 540-590hp and would probably also beat the porsche. but in the actual race it always comes down to the driver. any car can win
Personally, I think if there's any man worthy of being added to the Top Gear trio, it would have to be Chris. Even if it would take the fun out of the trip group, he can still crack some jokes if he pleases, which I'm sure Jeremy will approve haha :)
@Buttnut105 Porsche GT cars (GT2, GT2 RS, GT3, GT3 RS) offered only in manual and they're only minimal driving aids offered, Traction Control and Stability Control. Porsche cars are still can be handled with all the system turned-off, but current Ferraris like the 458 and 599 GTO are almost can't be handled well with their complex system fully turned-off. This simply says that Porsche offers great mechanical dynamics but Ferrari driving dynamics really depends on electronic.
gtr is probably the most value for money car there is at the moment. that being a car that is a performance car. absolutely astounding that nissan put such a small price tag on it when you see the lexus LFA costs something like 6 times as much and is probably no better than the GTR. its astounding
@MrMnote But my point here is current Ferraris and Lamborghinis are less-enthusiastic. Although the paddle-shifts with dual clutch gearbox is faster and more efficient, but for me, a true driver's car is a car in which the driver has better control and connection with his/her machine compared to other car, and that what makes manual gearbox as one of the reason. I love the F50, 575M, and 360 CS than current Ferraris, just my opinion though and I do respect your opinion dude.
@MrMnote At high speed, yes. But at slow speed, exiting a corner in less than about 80km/h requires very handful work to control the Ferraris with the aids off. Not all modern Ferrari, but the very powerful model such as the GTO and Italia. Porsche can design a car with much downforce without wings but the design will be far from its classic origins. As to maintain its heritage 911 design, the hardcore 911 GTs has to have wings on them.
@Buttnut105 I didn't say that Ferrari never build great cars. They always do, in almost every models. But as most reviewers has stated, current Ferraris with paddleshifts are less enthusiastic, not like the great F40, F50, 575M just to mention a few.
not that cup car at the end no. but thats a stock gtr which is hardly fair which has back seats radio sound proofing etc. r35 comes in a race version aswell which i think would probably beat it. the R35 GT-R GT500 JTC racer is insanely quick. it would kill that porsche easily
@mtross70 good choice. heard one in person just like in the video and it's gotta be the best sounding car i've ever heard...and then i raced it in my little rsx-s and got destroyed lol
@simbasa12 goddamn. a carrera gt and an enzo? ive seen three in my life and would kill to even sit in one. very lucky. i agree though. the RS is definetly the shit to drive.
I believe is production music for a tv commercial from head an shoulders Fifth Gear also use to feature it. I believe is called: Scalp Brave (Theme) by Tomboy Films Is hard to find for me.
@gshovlin But Clarkson and co. don't intend to be as professional and succinct as this guy. They're both great, just different, it would be like comparing Apples and Oranges
+1. I don't get why you can't like both cars from lets say Ferrari and Porsche. Why do one feel the need to dislike cars from another brand than your favorite? To me, its a waste of time to appreciated good cars. I have a huge love for porsche, but I wont waste any time on basically hating on any rivals. Instead I find many of them terrific, because they often are one great piece of engineering from people working long days, weeks in and out, to get one creation out the the customers. Like>Hate.
Chris Harris is very good, but has nothing to do in TG, he's a pro and not a joker about cars and for me, both works and are good programs and can live side by side.. But Autocar still rules!!!
I am totally Porsche biased, but I have to admit, that current Ferraris are the top of the "food chain". Brilliant cars. Most Porsche are almost as good [and in some cases are better driver cars] - however to a fraction of the cost. Overall Ferraris are capable poser cars and Porsche posable drivers cars...
I was talking in general of course, read the text again. You'll see endless argues over which car is better here of ytube, when in the end of the day they are all great cars. That't what I meant, the word you as in the people. Not towards you personally, because I already got your point obviously.
@gshovlin Who's Clarkston, if you mean clarkson and co, yes they are amateurs on the track but they are real pros when it comes to good entertainment. This guy would lose BBC ratings if he came presented Top Gear.
A full decade later and I'm still drooling over this car🤤
cos its the sweet spot for the RS before it became so hyped with 991 pdk models... my favourite RS ever.
best Porsche ever made!
as much a i love Clarkson, Hammond and May, it really feels good to be a proper petrolhead. I love it!! bring on more videos Chris!!
@bambustricc61
Actually it was not fake. The cloth door pulls simply were not ready. I know it, because I developed them for the Boxster Spyder. this car deserved the 2010 Best Drivers Car Award!
It's funny C.H. said that the car has 245 section at the rear, 325 at the front.
yeah i caught that too
It’s a front engine front wheel drive car don’t you know.
the beat ( music ) at the beginning, with camera angle changes is unbelievable.
damn, that straight cut trans sounds sexy. saw a gt3rs fly past me yesterday and then went to the dealrship and sat in it. its comfy as hell
Would be cool if he did a 997 GT3RS video again on his new channel.
He did.
engared a 997
Che1seabluesdrogba11 He did. He tested it against the Z/28. Loved both of them.
This is beautiful.
Cant wait to see what the GT2rs will be like. !!!
@vantage789 i noticed the 245/325 mistake.. but that sort of silly error is easily forgiven, when you consider how distracted and preoccupied Chris was by the task of manhandling that brilliant 911 GT3 RS, the finest distillation of the finest of sports cars...
chris harris is a legend. he knows what he is talking about. lots of respect.
Fantastic hand movement on the wheel. I rewatched the bit at the 2-minute mark several times.
True. Best examples are F-16, Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon. They're equipped with latest gen of fly-by-wire system.
Totally agree, Chris Harris is one of the best Road Testers in the UK and makes Clarkston and co. look amaeturish.
1:15 to 1:20 That sound and that view is just epic. OMG
@danthemanpatrick It's the best sound and the worst if you drive for long periods of time. Those cup car transmissions as you will see is just a push up for down shift and push down for upshift, no hydrolic foot operated clutch. Great video, analysis, comparison and fun to watch. What a great job you have, but you are good at it so keep up the good work.
I've never driven a GT3 RS but Chris's comment about the 205 GTI is spot on. It was uncanny.
Chris is just great in these sort of vids. Great to see him back. But what is that on your helmet?? DR?? Old glory.....
Chris is quickly becoming the best reviewer out purely because he is so real, if that makes sense.
Don't want to argue who's the best car tester but just wanted to say I love the way he introduce the car or subject... always original...
@danthemanpatrick The whine is the sound of straight cut gear teeth engaging with each other. Why they make them straight cut instead of helical like road car is for durability and less power loss through transmission. it looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous and i recon i could live with it everyday
Awesome review, as always with Chris. But I think he meant to say 245s at the front and 325s at the rear...
this guy is a very good test driver!!! clarkson is fun! but this one is definatly the best !
this some good combo color
listen to that noise... amazing
@MrMnote I got your point. I know that all the driving aids in current Ferraris can be turned off, but it will be (almost) uncontrollable to handle. That is stunning....just stunning! I'd gladly take it over a Gallardo or F430!
@MrMnote I agree with you with almost all your points. I stated that a modern Ferrari with all driving aids are almost uncontrollable, not that uncontrollable at all. Yes an average driver will be faster with the electronic aids turned on as it will maximize grip, reduce oversteer while exiting corners etc.

how do you know the ferrari's dont handle well without electronics? the 458 has a limited slip differential, i think it would handle just fine without traction control
@danthemanpatrick Most probably it's the straight-cut (racing) gear box that you are hearing.
pure mechanical genius these cars are
Sorry to say I'm not usually a Porsche fan. That is one hell of a car though, something I'd really like!
@LawrenceLugar1 That's a matter of taste but the front drivetrain is much more efficient on the 911!
And even the old 996 gt3 with 385hp was as quick as the 360cs so the new one with 70hp more and a better balance and grip would kill it on a track!
I had a few of these beauties in NFS:World.
can't seem to find much info on chris harris, where does the man come from?
@Buttnut105 Orange wheels and huge decals are for hardcore and lightweight Porsches. Even if it is too much, the cars deserve it. Like this GT3 RS. Plus the massive wing is functional. really a dream car
Porsche doesn't make cars, They make legends :)

manual gearbox forever the best

@okami11408 the cayenne and panamera are real sports cars?
I want one of this!!!
@akrlic Oh.. of course, was merely just pointing it out, doesn't take anything away from an amazing review
evo tv vids hate on top gear but i dont see top gear vids hating on evo, get a life, clarkson has admitted that the porsche is a fantastic car, get ur facts straight, he just pretends to be biased on everything cause thats part of his charm.
Both are great shows!
@gshovlin clarkson, not clarkston
Straight cut gears FTW!
Fucking stunning, STUNNING
245s in the front and 325s in the rear, not the other way round.
the gtr FIA gt1 is also pretty quick. its about 540-590hp and would probably also beat the porsche. but in the actual race it always comes down to the driver. any car can win
Cool car, cool review !
Anyone knows the name of the songs playing in it ?
When it comes to engines Flat6, I6, V12, v8
@Porschographer Not to mention he produces that show. What a life =)
Personally, I think if there's any man worthy of being added to the Top Gear trio, it would have to be Chris. Even if it would take the fun out of the trip group, he can still crack some jokes if he pleases, which I'm sure Jeremy will approve haha :)

lol when the video is playing, hold down 2
when hit the gas pedal to end , the engine sound was sensasional......
Pre-production, still has the door handles from the regular GT3.
pure.

please ...the song playing is ?
u know he does like porsches its funny he says he doesn't but when ever he gets in one he just keeps praising it
It is about as fast a road car you could ever want...
not that cup car at the end no. but thats a stock gtr which is hardly fair which has back seats radio sound proofing etc. r35 comes in a race version aswell which i think would probably beat it. the R35 GT-R GT500 JTC racer is insanely quick. it would kill that porsche easily
325 fronts and 245 rears eh?
- mayB he is over the top ... bt the mechanical connection with the Porsche is unparalleled
Top gear is about ratings...Chris is all about cars.
whats the starting price? anyone know?
Can anyone help find the name for this song?
@daftmou5 Its the Gearbox
What's the music in the background?
I believe is production music for a tv commercial from head an shoulders
Fifth Gear also use to feature it.
I believe is called: Scalp Brave (Theme) by Tomboy Films
Is hard to find for me.
@gshovlin But Clarkson and co. don't intend to be as professional and succinct as this guy. They're both great, just different, it would be like comparing Apples and Oranges
what song is that?
whats the name of the song folks?
That's race cars, right? Not road cars / mass-production cars.
@Porschographer As much as I like Evo (I buy magazine every month), the Evo is a little biased aswell. Especially thoward british cars.
Porsche, Dubstep and Parkour ♥♥♥
name of the song pleeeeeeaseeeeeee
theres actually a rc version of this and its much cooler :D
Because at that point he was concentrating, as he should, as he was starting to push the car a bit.
Remember another one?
GT1 ?
Those don't look like the standard RS seats...
+1. I don't get why you can't like both cars from lets say Ferrari and Porsche. Why do one feel the need to dislike cars from another brand than your favorite? @gshovlin Also he is a better driver!!! The standard GT3 feels a bit crap compared to the RS version.
oh no no!
GT1 road version i mean!...but sadly...its not mass production car.....
on the other hand i believe that rare car can rip the other Gts..
Once again, reference to the Peugeot 205. ahah ;)
Porsche 911 GT3 RS is top choice if you got lot´s of moneyz...
@gshovlin Who's Clarkston, if you mean clarkson and co, yes they are amateurs on the track but they are real pros when it comes to good entertainment. This guy would lose BBC ratings if he came presented Top Gear.
@bugattilover100 Not the only one.
