I bought one of these last March, use it most days and absolutely love it. You're right about stiff clutch etc but the gearbox does loosen once the fluids are warm which I guess you would have noticed during your drive. Mine is dark blue with the comfort seats, they are height adjustable and I can sink quite low in them. Previous cars were RS4 Saloon, M3 V8 Comp pack and M4. All good cars in their own right but i craved for something more hardcore. I'll likely end up with a 991 GTS for practical reasons but for now I'm going to enjoy the GT3 for a couple more years. Nick
A true enthusiast…your taste in performance cars (in which youve OWNED) are right in line with my own selections id love to have owned. Last year my father & I sold our 08 Carrera S in Dunkenblau (dk blue) 6mt, w/ 9789 miles. Was a fun car.
This video series is just a pure gem on RUclips recently. Fell in love with this 997.2 GT3. Even more than i used to be. So hardcore, just love. Pure love. THANKS Luke for letting us enjoy this journey!!
Thanks very much! The last days I’ve ended up thinking about the 997.2 more than I thought I would, especially since I watched a video of one with a full exhaust on its made me want one even more!
I seriously enjoyed driving the 997.2 GT3. It is raw, brutal, and sooo connected. Each shift feels like shooting a classic rifle. The prices are quite high in the US so the .2 is getting out of budget for me unfortunately.
if you cant heel and toe properly (like me for example) just rev match and downshift BEFORE you start to break. you dont need to do both at the same time on a normal street imo
Yeah I am really happy I drove it, at the time I thought it seemed to much for a daily but now I find myself thinking about it daily and wanting it more and more!
Great car. Last Mezger. Special thing. Your point regarding the Nav and stereo is very relevant - on both my GT4 and 991.2 GT3 I have ‘stereo delete’. No Nav. No radio. Which is perfect for me, but people do always question me for doing it!
My friend who owns an RS also said the same to me, I would rather have it all blank there than the outdated stuff, put a full exhaust on and just listen to that instead :-)
Get a 997.1 turbo manual, replace tail lights with LED and upgrade stereo with car play after market and you’ve got an amazing car for the money. Will not depreciate from here and probably appreciate.
If your max budget is 100k and you want a new daily driver than there are only 2 choices: Jaguar F type or 718 Cayman. I’ve got the Cayman for a few months now, it’s my only car and I’m in love with it. I also tested the F type which is a beautiful car, but in the Cayman you got this real sportscar feeling when you drive it. You recently tested the new Cayman GTS, I would recommend you to also test the 2L or 2,5L, more then enough power! Also, the Cayman is the most pratical car, lots of luggage space, reasonable fuel consumption, low co2 = low road tax, ‘cheap’ insurance. And for those who say the sound is terrible, try testing the car in real life, the sound is much better than most youtube reviews say it is.
Another great video Luke. I would advise caution though on the 997.2 gt3 right now. You'll be buying high and I can see the market correcting itself soon. Obviously that isn't an issue of you don't sell it but would hate to see you get burnt on the potential depreciation.
exe V6 They are right now. Like most things, they move up and down. For example a 288 GTO in 1988 sold for $2.85 million. In 2006 you could pick one up for around $200k. There's a popular saying in the world of investments. "This time it's different". The kicker is the result is always the same. A burst bubble and a lot of burn't people.
I personally can't see 997.1 or .2's dropping much in price. The new manual GT3 shouldn't affect the value since its such a different car. IMO the 997 (.1 or .2) is the very best generation of 911's. Especially the GT cars with the glorious mezger. Then again, who cares if they decrease in value? Life is too short to worry about such things.
If you consider a 911 to not be a daily driver, then there's no sportscar for you I'm afraid. This is seriously the most daily-drivable sportscars out there.
Those folding buckets definitely sit higher than the fixed back buckets and the comfort seats, it's bloody annoying. I have them in my 997.2 RS, looked at lower seat rails etc but just got used to it after about 6 months.
jonotu Happy to heat it in one way because part of me thought I was crazy for thinking the seats where too high but it really felt it, as a tall guy anyway but I don’t have that problem in the new RS bucket seats.
Cars with Luke yeah it feels like you’re sitting on top of the car, rather than in the car with the 991 RS. The folding buckets are still an option on new GT cars and they still have the same problem for us...I used to have the car you reviewed too with 4-way comfort seats and they sat way lower too. Good review btw, definitely not a daily driver but great fun car!
It's the gt2 seats that make you seat higher. The CGT seats are even lower than the 918 ones. P.S. Get a 991 gt3 with warranty and you are set. Same price as these, great cars, probably has had a new engines (meaning less miles than the odometer shows).
997 was the real true GT3. I mean don't get me wrong! I love the 991 GT3 as well, but it's just such a comfy car I could give my mom to drive. The 997 GT3 is as rough as the GT3 is supposed to be.
Try a C7 Corvette Z06. I drive mine everyday, even here in Canada where it was -32C this morning. The Viper.....not as livable. The Vette, I would argue, the best all around supercar/sportscar made.......period.
I've got 2010 GT3 and they are absolutely driving machines, nice video but I wanted to hear more to the revlimit gear changes :) I know, you're going way to fast by then...
I know you're a Porsche guy, but i'm daily driving a '13 Camaro (V8 Stick Shift) over here in Germany and it was the best decision ever. Such a good Allrounder, even decent trunk space... You should at least try one, maybe the new Gen6. Good Luck with your search :)
I doubt you'll reply to this, but what is that rev matching tool? I've never seen anything like that before and would love it in my 997. All the newer porsches have rev-matching for their manuals, and frankly, I'm not good enough to heel and toe. People constantly tell me to practice and practice and I'm like, I don't want to fry a £4000 clutch just to practice to be honest.
Can’t say what one it was but there is aftermarket rev match systems available however it honestly wasn’t that good, so much I turned it off and did it myself, no way near as good as the original porsche one.
Hi Luke, very nice car. You should definitively stay around the GTS which is a car you can use on a dally basis. 997 GTS or 991.1 GTS would make you happy in your price range!
I had that dilemma last year. GT4 being newer had the more modern interior and with everything 'new', was less to worry about for a while. However the GT3 just has more wow, has appreciated in value (whereas the 4 will start to go back down) and I knew i'd be kicking myself within a few months if I'd have gotten the 4. OPCs put 2 yrs warranty on all second hand cars anyway so that sealed it for me
I had a GT4 and it felt like something was missing. I modified it and loved it but still wanted one of these. GT4 was still the best car I have ever owned. I think I want a 997.1 though. I love the sound of the 3.6.
Nice video...I have a 7.2 gt3 in guards red that’s modified a bit for track usage. Love my car to death but it’s a bit boring to drive on the street. As you mentioned, the gt3 doesn’t seem to like being driven slowly. When driven in anger it really shines.
Luke, what I think maybe a decent balance would be a 997.2 Turbo with a GT3 rear wing and a GT2 front bumper. More than enough power to Hoon around in and comfortable enough to be a daily driver.
Great review as usual, Luke! The 997.2 GT3 is one of my dream Porsches since it was launched, but I understand the fact that you want it to be more of a daily driver. I really like the new 718 Cayman GTS and you can spec it with PDK. You can buy a 991.1 GTS, 997.2 GTS, because they hold their value pretty well. I can’t wait to see what you’ll pick! Greetings from Romania!😄
You definitely have be hardcore to daily a GT3. They are an experience, but can be harsh on crappy roads. The GT4 is a great compromise that is daily capable. Glad you got to at least experience the car though. The engine sound is intoxicating.
Great video and car Luke. Almost perfect. But for the value you need the 003 option (clubsport) The value of this car went up very steep the last 3 years and now going down. So certainly the moment to buy one if you don't want to lose money.... Anyway, try also the 996 GT3. Gears are shifting more smooth. You will not be dissapointed ;) Enjoy your journey!
the answer is simple: forget everything. find a great PTS voodoo blue, with pccbs and buckets seats GT4 and be happy! had one in 2016. And i m drooling for another one....!
It will be tossup between the 997.2 and the GT4. I 997.2 is raw and feels more special. But the GT4 was more liveable for me, and less running costs due to it's newer age.
can you make a new video off an 997 gt3 or rs,curious about what your thinking it now, why because I think the 997 is the best and you have a lot of 991 content btw love your video's keep it up Luke
What a great car, especially with a manual gearbox! Porsches gearboxes are so well made and so much fun to drive, so definitely the right choice for a driver‘s car like this!
what about the previous version of the R8 with the 5.2 litre V10? Not sure if there is a manual version of it but would defenitely be in the budget and it is awesome
Awesome car!!! They sound sooo good!! Raw!! What about a 991.1 Carrera S/4S with PDK? Perfect daily and you can do some small mods to make it more raw!!!
Yeah a lot of people suggested the R8, only thing for me is I feel that a lot of RUclipsrs already had this car and wanted to try get something different from the rest :-)
Love that smiling laugh of you that is coming from the true love of the car sensation. I have the same sensation when i get the chance (far too little) to drive a cool car
@Cars with Luke Have you considered a 997.2 GTS? or even a 997.2 C2S? I know it's lower priced and not as special, but for daily and for fun it is the best for both. The lower revving nature of the "normal" carrera's also lets you experience the sound of the motor more often. The only thing you would do if you purchased the "lower" grade carreras is that you'd be tempted to change the shifter
three notes in and it brings a smile to face and I know this video is going to make me feel good. Really like this guy. I paused the video at the 5th note to give my appreciation in this comment now. #MAGA
Where is this twisty road?! I live in the ZG area, and not sure Ive driven it! If a Porsche is your thing I suggest you check out a 997.2 Carrera GTS, these will hold value well, or more affordable a Carrera S/4S - has all the thrills with the comfort of daily driver. Go 991.1 if you want a better exhaust note, but you get the electric steering, and feels a bit more GT...
I personally drive a 997.2 C2S I find that I like the steering on the 997 more over the GT4 . the 997 one makes me feel more connected and smoother. If I was to choose between a 997.2 GT3 vs GT4 I'd take the 997.2
Love the car and the fact that you're one of the only car vloggers that at least tries to do heal and toe!
Wonderful Watches Would that be “heel and tow.”
I bought one of these last March, use it most days and absolutely love it. You're right about stiff clutch etc but the gearbox does loosen once the fluids are warm which I guess you would have noticed during your drive.

A true enthusiast…your taste in performance cars (in which youve OWNED) are right in line with my own selections id love to have owned. Last year my father & I sold our 08 Carrera S in Dunkenblau (dk blue) 6mt, w/ 9789 miles. Was a fun car.
Gotta love the sound of the Mezger 3.8L. Love the style Luke, keep up the good work.
Thanks and yeah it sounds so good!
That's the shit!!
That sound 😍 What a gem. Talk about a drivers car...
Ha yeah totally!
This video series is just a pure gem on RUclips recently. Fell in love with this 997.2 GT3. Even more than i used to be. So hardcore, just love. Pure love. THANKS Luke for letting us enjoy this journey!!
Thanks very much! The last days I’ve ended up thinking about the 997.2 more than I thought I would, especially since I watched a video of one with a full exhaust on its made me want one even more!
just got the chance to drive a 997.1 GT3RS in green and it was a childhood dream come true. A regular 997.1 GT3 would do
So much love for the 997.2 models! The 997.2 GT3 is for sure my favourite car! This over all. 😎
There seems to be a lot of love for this car, makes me like it even more! Needs a full exhaust system though :-)
Cars with Luke yeah agree with you! It is for sure a car for enthusiasts and not for everyone!
Thanks for this upload ! Every week I look forward your videos !
Anyone who has ever said "Money can't buy happiness" has never driven a Porsche 911 GT3.
The introductory cinematics of this video was some of the best I’ve ever seen.
I seriously enjoyed driving the 997.2 GT3. It is raw, brutal, and sooo connected. Each shift feels like shooting a classic rifle. The prices are quite high in the US so the .2 is getting out of budget for me unfortunately.
Thanks for being the most straightforward and least annoying car content RUclipsr. Enjoyed this.
Thanks! happy you like the videos and my dry humor straightforward self :-)
997.2's don't need rev match, the first heel and toe attempted in one will be a success and you'll never look back.
6:05 never knew they were pdk ? Slotted that one in !
if you cant heel and toe properly (like me for example) just rev match and downshift BEFORE you start to break. you dont need to do both at the same time on a normal street imo
Great video, for me the best GT3 ever made. The shape of the 997 with the best engine and of course MANUAL.
The 997 MK2 GT3 has always been my favourite, such a stunning machine
Yeah I am really happy I drove it, at the time I thought it seemed to much for a daily but now I find myself thinking about it daily and wanting it more and more!
I agree with your point of 997.2 GT3 not being daily-ble. But it'll certainly hold it's value better than a GT4 or 991.1 GTS.
Great car. Last Mezger. Special thing. Your point regarding the Nav and stereo is very relevant - on both my GT4 and 991.2 GT3 I have ‘stereo delete’. No Nav. No radio. Which is perfect for me, but people do always question me for doing it!

Great cars, great cinematography, laid back attitude, you got yourself a subscriber!
Happy to hear it and welcome! 😄
Perfect LUT for the car and environment! Well put together video Luke!
Thank you! :-)
Genuinely never liked Porsche as a whole brand until I came across your channel, Luke! I’ve loved them ever since
This car was on sale in the Netherlands a year ago.. I was so in love with it. Couldn't afford it, it will be a few more years.
Get a 997.1 turbo manual, replace tail lights with LED and upgrade stereo with car play after market and you’ve got an amazing car for the money. Will not depreciate from here and probably appreciate.

Awesome video once again. Love the edit and the cuts. Great!!!
Such a great video and channel in general. Thanks Luke!!
Revs to 8.5k... I have one. Fantastic car. Still very fast. 0-125mph 12 secs flat 11.8@122mph 1/4
Another great video Luke. I would advise caution though on the 997.2 gt3 right now. You'll be buying high and I can see the market correcting itself soon. Obviously that isn't an issue of you don't sell it but would hate to see you get burnt on the potential depreciation.
Thank you and really appreciate the advice! I can't see them going up in value anymore anyway and there are lots on offer
Cars with Luke Definitely don't think they'll climb any higher. Have you considered a NSX-R NA2? Only 52 built and very special.
Dont think so. 997 GT3 hold the price very good.
exe V6 They are right now. Like most things, they move up and down. For example a 288 GTO in 1988 sold for $2.85 million. In 2006 you could pick one up for around $200k.

So nice video and the porsch sound is fantastique !!!
This is such a underrated car ! Remotely 'affordable' and a step up in performance compared to the 991 Carrera GTS. Looks amazing, i'd go for it

Undoubtedly a GT3 for purists! Pure music for the ears and soul!
Oh yes!
Brilliant Luke, love the video man! One of my top ten fav cars
4:07 dem shifts be poppin' !
Try a C7 Corvette Z06. I drive mine everyday, even here in Canada where it was -32C this morning. The Viper.....not as livable. The Vette, I would argue, the best all around supercar/sportscar made.......period.

She's a beauty, and it's got the old Mezger motor in it. I think this suits you even more than a GT4!
On point as usual. I will be in Zurich tomorrow - hopefully see some delight cars! 🙂
Thanks and enjoy :-)
I know you're a Porsche guy, but i'm daily driving a '13 Camaro (V8 Stick Shift) over here in Germany and it was the best decision ever. Such a good Allrounder, even decent trunk space...
You should at least try one, maybe the new Gen6.
Good Luck with your search :)

Hi Luke, very nice car. You should definitively stay around the GTS which is a car you can use on a dally basis. 997 GTS or 991.1 GTS would make you happy in your price range!
True, and with an exhaust it also sounds very good! Some more test drives to come still then I will see :-)
Incredible quality !!
Still think that 911 Turbo S in black with the aftermarket mods you drove is the holy grail of Porsche's. Even has 2 seats in the back.
Yeah I remember that beast! But the price tag on it was mad, 250k!
Can you provide more detail on what exactly he did to the exhaust setup? Thanks
Was just a side muffler bypass
this over an GT4 and holds better its value
Good point, didn’t think about that 🤔
I had that dilemma last year. GT4 being newer had the more modern interior and with everything 'new', was less to worry about for a while. However the GT3 just has more wow, has appreciated in value (whereas the 4 will start to go back down) and I knew i'd be kicking myself within a few months if I'd have gotten the 4. GT4s gearing is too long, for the public road, in my opinion.
I had a GT4 and it felt like something was missing. I modified it and loved it but still wanted one of these. GT4 was still the best car I have ever owned. I think I want a 997.1 though. I love the sound of the 3.6.
Denny Gamble 3.8 in the 997.2 😉
Congratulations on 40 K subs. Keep up the fabulous work!!
Cheers! 😄
Nice video...I have a 7.2 gt3 in guards red that’s modified a bit for track usage. Love my car to death but it’s a bit boring to drive on the street. As you mentioned, the gt3 doesn’t seem to like being driven slowly. When driven in anger it really shines.
your videos are insanely good. keep up the good work!
Thank you! 😄
So how do you like the 997.2 GT3 compared to the 991.2 GT3?
So stunning in red!
Really is, I prefer the newer Lava Orange though I must admit
Driven this one multiple times. Its awesome
Man my fav porsche guy in YT and my dream porsche 997 gt3!
The quality of this video is amazing m8 keep going
It's an amazing car actually I'm addicted to Porsche 💙
Thanks! :-)
Luke, what I think maybe a decent balance would be a 997.2 Turbo with a GT3 rear wing and a GT2 front bumper.
More than enough power to Hoon around in and comfortable enough to be a daily driver.
The best camera work in the game
Thanks! :-)
Loved the shots at the beginning of the video. That little big monster in red looks amazing too
Thanks! any yeah does look cool in red, not sure it's the colour I would take though, black looked cool also
Keep up the good content 👍
In red, this is a beautiful GT3
Hmm now that does sound nice 😃
Hmm now that does sound nice 😃
Please! Drive the 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8/4.0
I’d love a 997 gt3, I personally think 997 is best Gen.
good review! but stick shift being too hard work on a daily basis?? you granny
dbmk2 😂🙏🏻 I was waiting for that, I meant the car in general, all together it might be tiring to use daily, I actually want a manual in my next car
:D hehe, ok i get that. really curious on what car you're deciding to buy in the end!
Haha yeah thanks! Hopefully something not for grannies 😂🙏🏻
It will be tossup between the 997.2 and the GT4. I 997.2 is raw and feels more special. But the GT4 was more liveable for me, and less running costs due to it's newer age.
What a car 👌🏿awesome vid
bmw m2 -sports car for daily use ?
Hi luke
Are you coming to Geneva carshow? Will be workin there at porsche
can you make a new video off an 997 gt3 or rs,curious about what your thinking it now, why because I think the 997 is the best and you have a lot of 991 content
btw love your video's keep it up Luke
One again a great video what a car the sound is crazy :)
Thanks! And yeah super cool sound!
What a great car, especially with a manual gearbox! Porsches gearboxes are so well made and so much fun to drive, so definitely the right choice for a driver‘s car like this!
Go Porsche!!! Love the vid resently!
Awesome video on an awesome car - agreed on the clutch being a little too hard for a daily driver
what about the previous version of the R8 with the 5.2 litre V10? Not sure if there is a manual version of it but would defenitely be in the budget and it is awesome
hey Luke, much salt in Switzerland on the roads … see many 997.1 GT3 RS’s in silver orange spec
Nothing beats Maserati's Granturismo downshifts (and rev blips) :-)
It maybe a few years old now but it still looks really good (and I'm talking about the car) 😁
And that exhaust note, truly awesome 👍🏼 😍
Haha thanks ;-) loved the exhaust but still it could be a bit louder!
I actually think it sounds better than 911.2 GT3
Awesome car!!! They sound sooo good!! Raw!! What about a 991.1 Carrera S/4S with PDK? Perfect daily and you can do some small mods to make it more raw!!!
The engine sound sounds really good, did you change something ? Great video and awesome GT3 😍
Whats that „beep“ when you are accelerating 🤔
He had a over 50kph warning, just for when driving through the villages guess he was worried about speeding
Cars with Luke haha 😂 Well the GT3 is fast...
Gt3 POWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So perhaps a 997 GTS will be 'just right'? Or, how about an R8 with an S-Tronic (dual clutch) gearbox? Style, speed, comfort, AWD... :D
Yeah a lot of people suggested the R8, only thing for me is I feel that a lot of RUclipsrs already had this car and wanted to try get something different from the rest :-)
997 Turbo
Very very nice car, metzger is the dream.
A GT4 is maybe also to hardcore? Then a Cayman GTS or 997.2 GTS must be a great fit.
Hey Luke! I just wanted to say I love the way you create your cinematic shots! What camera equipment do you use?
Thanks and I will make an equipment video soon!
Thanks, I would appreciate that!
Can you go more in depth with how the 991.2 gt3 goes against the 997.2 gt3?
Love that smiling laugh of you that is coming from the true love of the car sensation. I have the same sensation when i get the chance (far too little) to drive a cool car
Good job, great video, thanks.
How about a previous gen R8 V10?
three notes in and it brings a smile to face and I know this video is going to make me feel good. Really like this guy. I paused the video at the 5th note to give my appreciation in this comment now.
#MAGA
Cant find the song. Link is down!!
Underated car these days and the prizes are going up!
Awesome car and awesome road! Can you name the road in this video? Would love to drive it with my motorbike in summer, looked so epic!
I so wanna see Luke with the latest Aston Martin Vantage
;-) I'm up for trying one!
that sound of a Porsche Flat-Six uhmmmmm all day everyday 365 days don't stop. (except for refueling)
This over the 991. 2 any day! It's like gt4 in 911 form... It's actually a bit smaller than gt4... It's awesome get it!
It did remind me of the GT4, I just like the updated interior on the GT4 but as far as I know they are the same engines
Cars with Luke 997.2 gt3 and cayman gt4 same engines? Lol, no
the GT4 uses the 3.8 from the 991.1 carrera S which is an updated version of the 997.2 engine.
I personally drive a 997.2 C2S I find that I like the steering on the 997 more over the GT4 . the 997 one makes me feel more connected and smoother. If I was to choose between a 997.2 GT3 vs GT4 I'd take the 997.2
They are not the same engines at all....the 997.2 GT3 has the legendary mezger engine...the GT4 has the newer 3.8 engine from the Porsche 991
