I love the proportions of 997's. IMO they are the right height, length and width of what I would expect a 911 to be. Some driver aids but not too many. Basic where you'd want them to be basic, advanced where you'd want them to be advanced. If you don't own brand new car(s) then they don't feel old. My all time favourite 911 is the 997 4.0 RS
Joe, I agree that peak enthusiast cars were 2010ish. I could own many cars, but I choose the BMW 1M and 997.2 GT3. The thing you forgot to mention, this is the last GT3 with hydraulic steering, to match the other heavy inputs. As you stated, you need to learn how to drive the car. You do not just jump in and drive fast. So refreshing!
Looks perfected defintely! Just you can notice that the newer 911 GT3’s rev higher which makes me love them even more, although, this 997.2 looks AMAAAAAZING! Good to see you driving one Joe! Must’ve been amazing.
That story was oozing the level and quality of joy you had, Joe ! Doesn’t take much to be fascinated by your videos. Sheer driving pleasure is the story you tell - and you tell it so well !
Just a quick note.. a m2 comp is 1 second slower than a 997.2 GT3 60-100mph rolling. The m2 comp also is over 2 seconds slower 0-125mph.... SO the GT3 gains another whole second 100-125mph, and the gap will just keep increasing. This is of course if you can drive properly, The 2010 GT3 can do 11.6@122mph 1/4mile!!

Phil yeah mine is a manual. It’s my daily and I do about 10,000 a year. I looked for a manual for ages, I called Porsche and specced a 718 4.0 but they were a bit useless at phoning me back etc so I ended up buying a 16 plate 3.4 with 10,000 miles on it, which incidentally saved me a bit of money 😂 It’s a really nice car, definitely go and drive one. The sound with PSE is incredible, it’s one of the best sounding cars I’ve ever driven bar a V12 Vantage S. It’s comfortable, not too bad on fuel and people really like it, literally all my immediate neighbours were out chatting to me about it the day after I picked it up. I think I’ll keep this car a very long time unless something temps me away but that would have to be really good.
I had a ride (‘fully sent’) in a 997.2 GT3 in white (ie same as that one) around the Nurburgring back in 2014. I came away very impressed, especially at how composed the car felt going down into the bumpy Fuchsröhre section @230 km/h. I have to say, although I’ve never driven one, I find it very hard to believe that the 981 GT4 would feel anywhere near as composed in those circumstances. It certainly wouldn’t have that Metzger howl at 8500 RPM!
Working hard there, eh Joe?! Great review. These are one of the 'great' cars. The last of the 'great' Porsches. Raw, focussed mechanical: very very special. So hard to find a low mileage one now. But if you could, wow. These will be regarded as the pinnacle of ICE cars. Slight assistance, modern safety, road threadable, huge speed. But feel, feel, feel. Jealous! You have to learn to drive one, build a relationship: trail brake! 991s- are faster, but less feel and not raw. Electric will be faster than everything anyway, so feel's what you want.
This is peak 911, don't get me wrong still have immense love for all the gt cars, but there's just something about the 997, will definitely be one of the most collectible ad the years go by
The first Porsche I ever drove was a 997.1 GT3 Club Sport spec and I vowed one day I would have a GT Porsche. The M2 was a great car but the 981 GT4 is fantastic. Yes the gear ratios are a bit long especially 2nd & 3rd but you do adjust to them. The GT4 is not silly quick compared some modern cars but the way it handles and delivers its power is enough for our roads. I did look at a couple 997.2 GT3s but couldn't justify the £100K price for a 10 year old car.

For me it is the GOAT. 430bhp from such a wonderful engine with that fairly low weight is perfect. Post the 997 the 911 has lost its way getting too big and synthetic. For me they should split the 911 model range and create an analogue model which is smaller, manual only, normally aspirated with real dials only and no ABS or traction aids. As it is I think I’ll be keeping my 997 for ever.

Joe how does this car compare to the m2cs. I have always believe if you compare car phylosphy to super cars. BMWs are Porsche and Mercedes are lamborghini's. especially if consider bmw emphasis over engineering the chassis compared to the available power Mercedes looks at the same problem differently giving cars power and engineering the design or chassis to accommodate the power
how lucky are you... can Tom be my friend too ;) so how does that differ to the more recent GT3 RS which I saw one race by me heading to Goodwood last year :D
Having had some experience of the GT3 I would say that you have rather overlooked some of its minuses. It is really a track weapon not an every day car. It has a boneshaker ride and the tyre noise is atrocious. Although it goes well and has enormous traction I dislike cars that jink all over the place on a UK road. Not for me (and a lot of others if they owned one).

Hi Joe, great video on a legendary car. I also have a M2 but with the N55 engine. Would you swap that for a 997.2 911 GTS.
When you coming for the evo to have a blast of Blakey ;) Epic video love seeing the local roads!
What a great vid again Joe! Got to ask it that the Brecon Beacons? Would like to know the location as can be part of a road trip for me and my work mates! Great camera work as well!
Gods own county, North Yorkshire, Blakey Ridge from Hutton le Hole, fantastic drivers road, but watch out for the sheep ! ps. go on a week day, it's much quieter
Love my 997.2 Carrera S, however the GT3 is the dream. Prices are just far too ridiculous these days.
DO A 996 MK2 GT3 NEXT...
Now a 996 GT3 is probably just a smidge more than your M2 CS . I'll just leave that here. Sure someone will lend you one to try 😁
The GT3 here is not a club Sport, as it has no roll cage and the seats have leather. CS would have carbon seats with textile.
I need one in my life 🙏
One day !! 😍
My dream car
this or a GT4, saving up now!
Beautiful car. GT3 has the GT3 body. Cab, C4 & GTS also use this body. GT3 RS 4.0 has the Turbo/GT2/GT2 RS body. Got it?
GT3 uses the narrow body with 1808mm width.
Great video, may I ask which location you use to test cars. Especially the road where you did a launch. Whereabouts is that?
Great Video.
I laughed when he said how the car felt small. 🤣 I have a 993.....
Did this GT3 have lowered gearing as a standard gt3 gearing is pretty much the same as a GT4.... you get over 80 in 2nd gear easily?
Joe how does this car compare to the m2cs.
I have always believe if you compare car phylosphy to super cars.
BMWs are Porsche and Mercedes are lamborghini's.
especially if consider bmw emphasis over engineering the chassis compared to the available power
Mercedes looks at the same problem differently giving cars power and engineering the design or chassis to accommodate the power
Do u prefer a manual box in a porsche?
This is the one...
So would you get 981 gt4 or this for 100 000 pound? That’s what I’m weighting you JA?
WOW 😮
how lucky are you... can Tom be my friend too ;) so how does that differ to the more recent GT3 RS which I saw one race by me heading to Goodwood last year :D
What does Tom do for a living if a Taycan is his daily!
