    Only found out about Anytype today and it seems to be exactly what I'm looking for! Similar to Notion, but way more customizable. Thanks for all the videos showcasing it. Can't wait for the beta!

    I love your channel! I hope you can release more tutorials, this app is really interesting and your videos make it easy to develop your own structure. I've watched another tutorial (just one, because there's very few) and I just didn't enjoyed it as much as I enjoy yours, and I didn't learn anything new or useful and it just left me even more confused.

      @@Rez-N-8 Not yet. On first glance it looks quite ideal, but something that could also be built in Obsidian. Also, it costs money, something in short supply at the moment 😅 but when I can I'll give it a shot.

    Thank you for this video! I've been using Notion for a while and love a lot of things about it, but don't love that it's online only. I also find the mobile version very inconvenient. I don't know if AnyType being offline would make a difference here, but I'm gonna give it a try. Relations and sets seemed very confusing, but I will continue learning with your videos.

    5:04 you'd want Kanban if you wanted to sort by the AUTHOR relation, it'll give you a clean view of each AUTHOR and their books nested underneath 😅.

    why is it whenever I make a new object in a set, instead of opening in-line where i can just type the title (exactly like in your video) on my set it opens up a whole new page window every time! it makes it quite frustrating when im trying to add new items quickly and sort/add details later.

    Can you do number calculations at the bottom of the table like notion? That’s a must for me. If this can do that it’s a switcher for sure

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад +1

      It does not appear so. I'd hope that the beta fixes this, and I'll suggest it on the community page, but as of now, no...

    Is a "relation" the same as a property in Notion or similar apps? And is there a "real" relation, to fetch/lookup data from a different set (Afaik a "Set" is a table?)

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад +1

      It's very similar, yes. Basically, it's like a tag, so a relation used on one object can be used with another type of object. And yes, a Set is like a table, although a Notion database is probably more accurate.

  • @Mark4Jesus
    @Mark4Jesus Год назад

    @1:33 It seems like in Anytype, the term "relation" is overloaded. For example, why would a date be a relation? It's just a formatted number. It's just an ordinary attribute, isn't it? Is there a database of dates? Then also what do you mean that "the objects are the preset for the page"? Sorry but I'm really confused. Maybe you can make an Anytype Concepts video where you point out how ordinary mortals like me can understand how to identify types vs objects ("presets for the page") and relations? Thanks.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад +2

      For sure 😅I can see how it gets overwhelming, and I can also see that my word choice might get messed up. I'll get a concepts video out soon, to use as a baseline.

    Can i choose more complicated queries
    Like i want a set with a type car and a relation with a certain value .

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, but that would be a filter. You can add multiple filters for certain relations, content, etc. You'd want to make a set of the type car, and then on the right find the three lines to add filters, and then choose how you wish to filter things.

    tell me if Anytype can solve this scenario :
    I manage a workshop so I have databases for emplyees, customers, projects, tools, raw materials, bills, etc. Every day I put an entry about what activities were accomplised and how many hours it took (this takes less than 1 minute). At any point in time I need to be able to see how many hours has an emplyee worked at a specific project, whit a specific tool, or how much I am spending with raw materials for a specific client or project in a time interval, or how were spent the money received from a client.
    I do all this with Notion using databases, formulas and relations.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад

      This is... a valid concern, and something I hadn't realized because I didn't have a use case for it. From a little testing, calculations or even numbers at the bottom of a set (a database) aren't appearing, so unless I'm missing a setting, it's not viable. However, I shall suggest this to the Anytype features suggestions, since this is something they certainly should have.

    Thoughts on Logseq? Logseq has similiar approach for privacy

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад

      I like Logseq, but I've always felt that it's a more formalized Obsidian... I always feel as though Obsidian could be offering something more in terms of plugins or themes XD that's the allure of Obsidian, I guess. Anyways, Logseq. It seems solid, and very good for what it does, but (at least when I investigated it) it seemed very research-themed... not much like a second brain for life stuff. I might take another swing at it though.

      I haven't run it at a large scale, but I never have loading times for databases and opening as a whole... I'd say so far, so good. When the beta releases, I'll get the full rundown, as I plan to be using it more extensively then.

      Several people have asked this, but I'm afraid I can't say. I've never tested Capacities, mainly due to lack of an offline mode (as far as I can tell). However, if there's interest, I can definitely do a comparison.

  • @RoltChen

    AnyType seems better than Notion because it's open-source, free, offline and Notion gets too sluggish when databases grow. However, AnyType is still missing many features like formulas in sets.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад +1

      This is true. But Anytype is also growing really fast, so that could very well be added within the next few updates. They've got a release plan on their website, so you could check there for that every once and a while.

    • @RoltChen
      @RoltChen Год назад +1

      @@pianomacpower Also, it is not clear how to combine two databases together. Ideally, I want to have a bunch of databases connected into one big database. And from that big database add objects into columns and they will automatically populate related databases and this create links between objects. It´s either not possible neither through collections, nor sets, or I cannot understand how to achieve that

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  Год назад

      @@RoltChen Ok... let me think. There should be a set that comes as a default called Everything that has every Object in it... and if all your other sets are organized by Object type, whenever you make an Object of that type, it should appear in that set. I'm still not sure how links work (especially in the graph) when it comes to sets, but on the surface does this achieve what you're thinking?

    • @RoltChen
      @RoltChen Год назад

      @@pianomacpower not exactly, even if I create the bunch of sets based on different object types, I can populate through set 'All My Objects' but the different sets remain unlinked. I would like to have a set of sets (or collections) where each set is a separate column. It seems I can do that by making the collection and then adding multiple relations to other objects in columns and different views of the table with filters. However, making my second brain is an uneasy task. In my mind, it should be simple - easy to add info, easy to retrieve, easy to make connections, easy to organize. But in practice, it's complicated😆

    • @RoltChen
      @RoltChen Год назад

      @@pianomacpower For now, I will keep using Notion as well, I built a nice template of three databases for learning English and Icelandic as foreign languages with spaced repetition feature and flashcards. It might be possible without formulas in Anytype I believe but for now, it seems to be less convenient and will take more time than I am currently spending in Notion. So, formulas are a must-have for Anytype + I have to understand better how relations work. I think it could be a key player. It is not like in Notion where a relation in a database is links to particular pages inside another database. In Anytype, it's sort of a name of a link/connection between two objects but these objects can be in any collection.

      I believe if you want the optimized cloud storage, there will be a paid option, but at the moment, yes! Keep in mind that if you exceed the cloud storage, it just stores locally, so it's not a huge deal.
