I believe the name of that tarp set up is the envelope. Your extra warmth was due to the gortex bivvi. Adds at least one season to a sleeping bag. 👍

Yep the bivvi is amazing, I paid £35 for mine also in DPM and it was brand new, unissued and packaged! It means that even down to 5 degrees lowest temp at night I can get away with a cheap £10 Chinese sleeping bag plus a £10 fleece liner inside it, camping under a tarp/basha/poncho. In summer I've just used the fleece liner plus bivvy bag, no problem.

@@excemptfrombs2124 It was an ebay seller, a couple of years ago. If I get time tomorrow I'll find the order and see if he's still selling them if not for the same price at least for a good price, and let you know. Definitely worth it even if you paid 50 quid for one brand new I reckon.

Nice video! We used to zig-zag shockcord through the grommets of the alice-loops at the front of the backpack to ease attaching stuff on the outside. Also on the lid some shockcord and you can stuff some wet clothing or the basha on top of the backpack. 💪🏻

Basha and bivvy set up, one of my fav, my two cents on set up, always use the hoops rather than the grommets on the basha, if the hoops fail its a easy fix with thread and needle and you have the grommets as a quick back up in unpredictable weather, grommets fail and you have a bigger problem of the tarp tearing in bad weather, i use a ball bungee around the end of my bivvy, all bungees are a god send lol.
My cats would have had that salt lick away the moment they noticed it lol, throw them a bit of crispy bacon and they spend 2 min licking the floor after the crispy bacon has been devoured.

@@johncrouch8988 do you use any bungees or are there any types that are particularly good in terms of weight and durability?

Can't beat these 2, I have both in DPM and together I paid just 50 quid for them which is absurdly cheap, the bivvy bag was even brand new, unissued and still in it's packaging! The basha is humungous compared to the old 58 pattern ponchos we used when I was in the army, you can make all kinds of shelters with loads of space. I do however always take a cheap 1 x 2m tarp as a groundsheet.

Trick with shoes. Knock two short sticks into the ground, so they stand upright with about a 12 inches sticking up above ground, and enough underground that they're solidly stable. Put your shoes upside down onto the sticks, soles facing the sky. Now the rain runs over the outside, not into the inside.

I have the same sleeping bag and it is not a jungle bag. This is a lightweight sleeping bag. Jungle is even lighter and has no mosquito net. I slept last weekend in a similar configuration, but without a mattress. The temperature dropped to 7C deg. It was even too warm for me. I had the same tarp setting. Flexible expanders are a great deal.
