  • How much does a metal shingle roof actually cost for a typical house?
    **********************************
Cost is one of the most important questions that a homeowner can ask, but it's rarely talked about when it comes to roofing. In today's video, Thad and Adam are with Todd Miller of Isaiah Industries to find out how much it would actually cost to have a metal shingle roof put on Adam's house. They explore two different product options, a steel shingle and an aluminum shake, and discuss what drives prices up and what keeps prices down. The numbers talked about in this video include material and installation and are based on Adam's 3,000 square foot roof.

Geezus H Christmas guys! Now I know why I never see this type of roofing installed in my area. I can generally roof a house for 250$ a square, material and labor... I’m still gonna try to learn about it just in case! Thanks Thad!

No problem, Michael! What type of systems do you typically install? -Thad

      The Metal Roofing Channel
I’m in Northwest Arkansas, 90% of our market is rural, we use exposed fasteners. But I would like to add, we have really good luck overall with performance and durability. It probably helps that we’ve been building Metal Buildings for over 50 years and have evolved as the products have changed.

Good to know! Exposed fastener definitely has its place, and if it's installed/maintained properly it can be an effective system for the right applications. My grandpa has had one on his house for a decade or so, has never had any problems, and it still looks great. Plus, choosing a product is one thing, but no roof will last if the installation isn't up to the task, so awesome job continuing to evolve with the times. Always looking to improve and taking pride in your work are important qualities, especially here in the metal world. Keep it up, and hopefully we can help you along the way with education and encouragement through the channel! Thanks for sharing, Michael! -Thad

The first one had no damage. Feeding the industry I guess!

Do you have to remove the asphalt shingles to put the metal shingles on? Metal shingles sound about twice as much as a basic paneled metal roof, not standing seam which is 3x the price of a basis metal roof.

We want to build a new house, but those prices are crazy. We only spent $67,000 for our current house. I’ve seen rusted steel roofing, I wonder if this will rust too? Aluminum shouldn’t, but it’s not as tough as steel. 🤦‍♀️

It last waaaaay longer than traditional shingles. You wouldn't have to ever repair it in your life, unless a natural disaster happened

This is what the Director at the Canadian Roofing Association has to say about Hy-Grade (CRCA): "I will say that I have researched this company - Hy-Grade Roofing - and did not take me long to find several complaints and bad reviews with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). These types of complaints would have been enough for me to pass on this contractor. I see many issues and complaints related to the many ‘Metal Roofing Companies’ who promise the world to the customer, then don’t follow through when it’s time to enforce the warranty or get issues rectified..." Not even the CRCA would use you as a contractor. I invite all potential customer to contact the CRCA before signing with Hy-grade!

Do metal roofs interact with wifi? I have internal wifi. Meanining the connection is hooked into the phone line.

I've never heard of issues with wifi inside a house caused by a metal roof. If there have been instances of that problem, it's extremely rare. Thanks for the question! -Thad

Ken Long metal roofs can effect cellular service because it’s coming from outside the home and has to penetrate the house structure. If your router is inside the home then the metal roof will have no effect on it.

I do not believe this is a lifetime roof. In 12 years, when the sun destroys that fancy paint, and it looks like hell, then what?

    • @Btu555
      @Btu555 2 года назад

I was thinking about the same thing. For me, I think the only way it makes sense from the cost point of view is to use galvalume expose fastener w/o the paint and DIY.

@@TheMetalRoofingChannel I just had a salesperson yesterday from Eerie try to sell me a metal shingle roof in Northern Indiana for $64,000. My home is 20 years old and $1600 square ft. ranch in a blighted urban area. No home in my neighborhood has ever sold over $140,000. These greedy salespeople are ruining the trade.
