    I'm so glad I found your videos today! I've been a widow for 2 & a half years. We were diagnosed with covid on the same day. Fifteen days later he was gone. I have never recovered. I, too, have h fibromyalgia. I juggled the fibro fairly well for 24 years before the aforementioned life changes. I'm appalled at my lack of stamina. Everything is difficult. You get it. People who don't know, just don't know. I'll binge on your videos now that I've found you.

      I’m so glad you’re here, Sherry. So very glad. Yes, you have to know to know. This is a path you have to walk to know what’s on it. I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine how hard it has been for you. Please be kind to yourself. You can only do what you can do. Make sure you watch the DOTS video!

    I have a neuromuscular dystrophy and had to stop working two years ago. My husband, who still works, often needs to make meals for the family when he gets home. To lighten the load, I meal plan every weekend, and we make burritos or soup or sandwiches that can be eaten for lunches all week. Sometimes he pre-chops and freezes veggies for use later in the week and we just stick to my weekly plan (which also helps with grocery shopping for the week). Keeping several easier dinner options in rotation (rice pilaf, tacos, pasta, chow mein, pizza, stir-Fridays, etc) helps streamline everything.

    I LOVE Greg’s books, they changed my life. I thought I was the only one that struggled with food choices. I do all the meal planning, shopping list and shopping but on the day *blank*. I realised I can’t decide what to eat, prep it, cook and eat it in one go. So I decide dinner at breakfast, prep dinner at lunch (yesterday’s leftovers are lunch) and cook at dinner time. Way less overload.

      I think Greg is so wise. I like this plan of yours for meal prep. My brain is always best in the mornings. I’m always looking for ways to cut down the overload. Thanks!

    A great video with lots of good advice. I think I mentioned before that my husband & I (both 78) have at least 3 health problems each that affect our energy & stamina. For the last year or so I have been coming up with ways to make our lives simpler & easier. We are using many of the methods that have been mentioned in this video. Also, because we are blessed to afford it, we have every-other-week housecleaning help & yard mowing service. What a load off. Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask family, friends or neighbors for help with something essential if you just can’t do it.

    • @TowardsASimpleLife
      @TowardsASimpleLife  3 месяца назад +3

      What a blessing to get that help! I’ve just barely hired some help to get the yard weeded and the trimmed. I just couldn’t do it and the lack of spring cleanup made the yard look bad and it discouraged me. It was so worth it. The things that are left are manageable. I do need to get out there and finish cleaning the back porch. I have done some of it. I think decluttering all of those extra storage boxes will help.

      I’m Glad you mentioned getting help. I’m having to think about that more. Thankfully, we have some family members visiting who are helping us so much with hurricane cleanup! We will need professionals to come in to remove the huge tree that went down and to fix the fence, but so many more things came down that need to be dealt with, and they are putting in so many hours to help clean it up. ❤ It really emphasized for me, but I can’t do it on my own. Or rather, if I did do it on my own, I would probably need three or four lifetimes to do it.

    This video was so helpful to me. I have been having so much difficulty doing laundry. I just could not get it done and I couldn't understand why it was so hard. Then last month, I realised one of the difficulties is that there seem to be so many steps to it, and this makes it feel like a huge task. The first step is separating dark colors from light colors. So I bought a new laundry hamper which is a tiered basket system (to save space in a small apartment). And now when I put my laundry in the baskets, I have a basket for lights and one for darks and one for delicates, so the items are pre-sorted. It has made laundry much easier, and I also chose small baskets so that the laundry cannot pile up too much before it needs attention (whereas the previous hamper was large and deep). Only took me 20 years of struggling with laundry to think of this 😂

    • @TowardsASimpleLife

      This is exactly the solution I came up with for myself! Isn’t it amazing how much this simple change helps? That’s what I walk about this video.” The author advises us to constantly ask ourselves, “How can I make this easier?” and “What am I doing to make this harder?” Your solution is a perfect example of getting it right! Thanks so much for sharing it.

      Enjoy the next 20 years of separated laundry! It’s glorious!
      When I had the luxury of a little extra space in a laundry room, I joyfully added things like 1) hanging rods 2) A table fan, perched on a surface pointed at the hanging space (in this case on my ironing board). 3) Shelves above with things like turntables for my elegant, concentrated, laundry soaps, bleach products, and for a jumbo jug of detergent that can turn on its side and I just push a button so the soap drops right into the machine. 4) A shelf above that holds some empty laundry baskets in case I get behind on my laundry, or to hold sheets and towels when they come out of the dryer, but I’m not ready for folding (or more often, for putting them right back onto the beds and yowl hooks!). 5) Also an iron and some distilled water and spray starch for those few times when I need those things.
      I consider the Laundry floor even more sacred than any other floor because if it’s not clear, it’s incredibly frustrating. 😂 I once had a friend that waited so long to do her laundry, and to put it away once it was clean, but you literally walked on her laundry down the hall to her overcrowded laundry room. I keep that picture in my head as a caution.
      I hope you become as blessed as I am in the laundry department, because, even though it is a perpetual task, it always has a point at which it is “done.“ for me, that point is when I have “moved the laundry forward.” That means that things might be in the washing machine but they’re not ready for me to do anything about it, but I can carry the dry things that I’ve been hanging to dry over to my closet. Done. It might be when things are in the dryer and I can’t make that go any faster. Done. It might be when I’m done folding things and I have set them on my husbands dresser for him to put away because I just don’t do that particular task. Done. And I can be just as done as I’m in the mood to be, or that I’m willing to tolerate. So I might do a cold tumble of things that shouldn’t be in a hot dryer, and then hang them up with the fan on them and I don’t need to iron them later. And while I’m waiting, I might fold something while watching a little television or enjoy the beautiful view of the morning outside my window.
      😂 Now, if I could only be so enthusiastic about the jobs I really don’t want to do!

    Would love to know what you are cooking. We’ve used Walmart Pickup for years and it has helped in many ways but the meal part is not working and never has. Look into a Kindle. I couldn’t do your stairs. When we bought our recent home I knew we couldn’t have any stairs. I’d have to convert that office into a master bedroom :-)

    • @TowardsASimpleLife
      @TowardsASimpleLife  3 месяца назад

      I have a Kindle with tons and tons of books on it. I’ve found that if I go through a book on Kindle and I really want to talk about it or dig into it deeper, I have to buy the “real” book. It’s hard for me to remember what I liked in the Kindle version. The stairs are okay so far. If we run into problems walking up them, we would probably use a ride-up chair. We used one for my mom who lived in our basement until she was 98. It worked out perfectly for us and it didn’t really damage much and when we took it out, you couldn’t really tell. We’ve thought about the office/bedroom thing but the problem is no shower on this floor. It only has a half bath.

      @@TowardsASimpleLife- make sure you’re getting adequate K2 if taking D (D3 bring the best choice). The K2 directs the calcium that the D frees up into the places where it’s supposed to go, the bone, instead of joints, kidneys, eyeballs, etc. Just a little tip from the holistic, nursing, peanut gallery!
