I've been applying the 5 second rule to stop negative feelings from traumatic memories. It's inevitable to sometimes remember frustrating or annoying experiences, but it is definitely our decision to focus on what really matters.
This is soo true!! For the last 2 weeks ive been trying to get up at 5:30am to go to the gym. And i would have this little talk with myself the night before. And as soon as that alarm sounds, my mind will talk me out of it!! And when i finally do wake up, i feel so guilty and mad at myself 😩😩😩 its beyond annoying. Will definitely try the 5 second rule tomorrow morning
This thing about waiting to "feel like it" is really a true trap. It happens to me. I used to always feel like it and got everything done, but after I had a TIA stroke, I have never "felt like it" since. Some circuitry changed and I have to force myself into whatever, usually ironing! LOL! But once I get going, I just go till I'm done. Having a scheduled day with times to rest a bit and fairly frequent changes of action helps. I'm just a 'go till it's done' person, so it's easy to get bored to death and exhausted. It's better to break whatever it is I have to do into time increments and come back to it later. I have to give myself a variety of things to do in a circular schedule and then I don't get bored or exhausted. It's a better way to fight procrastination. Im going to try this 54321 trick and see if it won't help me cut thru my own excuses!
Y’all need to know this. A well-known podcast ROCHELLE DUNGCA-SCHREIBER in the US taught me how the rich don’t teach how to achieve success. They seek the ideas of Fin. Consultants to help grow their finance.
To achieve success, a Financial consultant is needed to achieve it. I engage in a variety of investments with the ideas of my consultant and have acquired great returns so far. (the amount is confidential).
No she's not!... RUclips is a public place; i can't drop her information here but You can just put her name on google and you will be directed to her website and drop her your message.
Point: 1:15 3 brain jobs 2:24 true change comes down to 5 second windows 3:26 5 second rule 5:12 all u need to know to change anything 7:22 greatest capacity to people 8:13 example of 5 second rule
That's how you know you're really confident. Confident enough to face adversities with an iron fist. The arena called life is fierce ! Nothing quaint about life ! Gotta take it on like a true Pioneer Woman , Gladiator or Mighty Mouse !...seriously :-)
That's what she's talking about when she says you talk yourself out of it. Apply the 5 second rule and lean into the challenge. There's always one step forward you can take. Good luck!
We can truly never control what happens to us, but we can ALWAYS choose how to react. Taking 5 seconds to think about how we want to act or what we want to say can make a HUGE difference in how the situation plays out, ultimately affecting how we go about the rest of our day. Super valuable!
I thank you Tali Sharot for motivating my daughter when thing went really had for her. It was really so bad that she attempted committing murder until you invited Mrs Lyra Holt Dean for your TED show program. Am really so grateful for her finical assistance in my daughters life thank you so much once again.
@Lewis Hamilton I figured out Mrs Lyra Holt From a TED show hosted by Tali Sharot. She invited this particular woman and she introduced this fabulous type strategy for making money. It looked like a scam until we took the risk and tired it out and it worked
Please people on RUclips DO NOT PAY ONE BIT OF ATTENTION TO THIS COMMENT HERE. This is NOT Joyce Meyer and the other person is in out the SCAM here. Do NOT reply at all!!!!
This 5 second decision is for real I am so glad I heard this yesterday and I'm watching it again. I will be 70 this year and very youthfull and full of energy . I've had more ups and downs in my life that most people would have jumped off a building I lost several properties, over 250k Cash when I was my 40s but found a way to get back on my feet it took about 13 years of saving, saving , saving and investing of what little of I could tuck away. And I didn't know I was using the 5 second decisions back then. And you are so right 5 seconds to just out of bed in the mornings I do , make my bed I've learned at 5 years old or my Father guided us .....Thank you for the reminder Miss Robbins....very very much Oh ! I'm back in a buisn. school at this time thanks to the 5 second rule decide , decide , decide NOW ...........
I do know what I need to do. Sometimes I do it, and sometimes I don't. The key is in your consistency or habits. Thank you. You're changing people's lives 5 seconds at a time!
Best conversation on this topic I have heard. Flip it. Switch out the anger to empathy. I will remember this tomorrow when I attend a funeral and see my brother from whom I have been estranged. Thanks.🧚♀️
I find the best thing to do is if it is something that is important to you then do it first thing in the morning. Have 4 goals first thing after waking up. For me it is drink coffee, eat breakfast, get my clothes ready to go biking, go biking. When you have 4 decisions first thing and nothing else matters right away, you will never skip the exercise. When I come home after biking and it is 7am on a weekend, I feel empowered and I got the exercise done so now...I start my day with momentum! The earlier I go, the less I hesitate and the excuses do not really show up just yet.
This is the 3rd video on this topic I've seen by Mel in 24 hours. I've always wondered WHY can't I do...? I KNOW I should, but... NOW I KNOW WHY I ALWAYS PROCRASTINATED!!!!! I did the 5-4-3-2-1 this morning & got up & turned my alarm off the first go around. THANK YOU MEL!!!!!!!!!! I will appreciate your knowledge & wisdom forever.
I use to use something like the 5 second rule in my college days. I use to be painfully shy about talking to women, but the I would count 3...2...1. By the time i went to 1, i would say "hi". My friends thought I was some bold and confident guy. But I was trying not to be single for the rest of my love. It worked. I'm now married and have a family. So, no need to use it for that purpose. But never thought about using this rule in other aspects of my life until now. This makes sense.
What a happy wonderful story. Thank you for sharing your experience! It helped me to imagine the possibility that I too can have a life with a wife, family, confidence/courage/persistence, success and the like. Thank you.
I found this video during a process I’ve been going through of realizing that nobody is coming to save me and it’s up to me to do the things I need to do...the things I don’t want to do...the hard stuff. Hearing her say it still was powerful though.
My kitchen was so messy for days and I didn’t want to touch it at all.. after watching this, I went straight and clean it. The five second rules does really work!
The fact that she has gone through the struggle and actually gave us part of the answer to fix our struggle is TRUE leadership. For the past 4 years I have become an entirely different person. Whether it was working out or being lazy else where. This video gave me an insight to look within myself and focus on that 5 seconds I take to make the decision to NOT do something. Thank you so much Ms. Mel Robbins.
This hit me so hard hearing this tonight. Thank you for posting such a simple "stupid" rule. I'm going to try this tonight just going on my treadmill that I've been putting off.
Thank you Mel. As a mom of 3 that has suffered from severe depression for many years you're really helping me to think differently. I want to grow my RUclips channel and I know doing that will also make me hold myself accountable. I will Have to get up, get dressed, clean the house ect. ❤😗

I used to say that the best sleep I got was in the 9-minute intervals between hitting the "Snooze" button, but like Mel, my life had become a train wreck and not getting up and facing it was compounding my problems. It's now about 4 years since I heard her talk about the 5-sec rule, and since then I haven't once hit the "Snooze" button and I totally turned my life around. I am very happy to get the message again because I have drifted away from the 5-sec rule and my life has gotten comfortable and there are way too many things I want to accomplish that won't happen until I start applying the 5-sec rule in all areas of my life. Glad I found this on RUclips.
I came across Mel on Twitter and I loved what she had to say. Pleasantly surprised to come across this video. Definitely someone worth listening to. She’s absolutely right, no one is coming to save you. I’m also in the process of being assessed to see whether or not I have ADHD, the ‘5 second rule’ really helps me.
This is the truest advice I have heard. I started applying it and realised I could get a lot done. I was convinced I wasn't a morning person but with this I realised I am an anytime person.
When I first watched this...I cried. Because the Things she said are so true and made me realized how I sabotaged myself. Thank you for putting this out and give me push and knowledge that I really really needed
OMG! You are the best! I wish I could explain how much difference you do to people life... but I can’t !!! I just can say THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK you!!! God bless you Mel 🙏🏻
Hi!! 2 years ago I watched this video and I was like what a genius! So I started doing the 5 second routine- literally get out of bed the moment the alarm goes off (my hubby thinks I'm nuts but also is envious) and now over time I've trained myself to take 30 minute naps and use the 5 second rule to get up and over time its just become "normal". I apply your 5 second rules to many thing and always tell myself " don't talk yourself out of it!" Anyways. Just wanted to say thank you 🤍
So accurate! I totally agree! Its doing what we ALREADY KNOW is the right thing to do no matter how we feel about it. Its the small positive changes and personal choices that make the difference. Brick by brick, day by day we become what WE truly want to be. Its ALL about balance and its all for our benefit...rest, good food, consistent exercise, good influences around us, doing what we really love to do in our own way.
I could listen to this charming and wise lady all day long... I do things, because I keep telling myself, that I have to do, but time after time excuses manages to step in. She is absolutely right and I'm glad she is sharing her experience, what a great learning curve this is! :) I can't wait to push myself more and try this 5sec rule :)
One thing that really stood out to me about what she said within my own methods I've created, it's true we have the answers. We're always looking for a quick fix but throughout our lives and through other storms we were collecting data. Now is the time to use the tools. I will start applying her methods along with my own and I'm excited to see results. Thank you for sharing.
My definite go to Mel for inspiration and knowledge how to change short and long term and even in five seconds. I works!!!! Thank you Mel Robbins. The song your daughter sings Pastime is awesome. She will climb in music with a mother encouraging her like you do for me.
The thing is i don’t want to force my self to get out of bed, i want it to be naturally happen. Like “ wow what a beautiful morning, lets live!” Thats what i want.
JONES if I’m reading this correctly and taking it literally, it’s very important to reach out to friends or family right now. I’ve felt down like this and the most important thing is to talk to those who love you. Please do it right now.
I don’t force myself to get out of bed. I love my morning time in bed. Some days I get up early and some days I get up later. I love having that flexibility and doing what I feel. It’s more important to me to live in the moment acknowledging and honoring how I’m feeling.
I can totally relate to that thought, but to get to that point in the future, we will have to extend effort in the here and now. One of my other favourite coaches (apart from Mel Robbins of course) called Lisa Nichols says "There's no elevator to the top, there's nothing but stairs" (in the growth mindset, we want to learn and grow and put effort towards this, in the fixed mindset, we want things to come naturally - everyone has both parts, the question is not "if" but "where"). Wishing you all the best in achieving your dreams.
It's true. I've been a happy mum, but unhappy stay at home mum for 4 years, in the moment I considered going back to work I felt instantly at peace and felt relieved. I spent the next 4 weeks breaking down the decision and turning myself off the idea.. mum guilt. Thank you for this, I'm going to go back to work soon and I know my family will be so much happier.
Love this talk; it is realistic and motivational. You are going to feel what you feel; action yourself dreams despite that. You are making a huge impact to our lives, Mel. Thank you!

5 second rule 👐❤️ this is brilliant ❤️ literally love when people have knowlegde that can better describe a situation, love that as humans we are the same nd can learn from eachother. Self monitoring is extremely important.
Remembering the 5second rule after a good week has been difficult. But we gotta set reminders like writing it down somwhere nd seeing it so that we don't forget 2 hours later after watching the video.
Doing this work out Monday, Wednesday & Friday! Today is Wednesday! You're absolutely right, I knew the workout better and I was able to correct my form today on most Friday looking to possibly increase my weight ❤ THANK YOU!!!🎉
Thank you for explaining how we can break the habit of talking ourselves out of things. Sometimes, it's just our mind holding us back, and when we are able to overcome that, we can accomplish so much more while living full out.
Another great interview. I like a lot of what Mel says in this video. From the book The Happiness Hypothesis I learned that Sigmund Freud said the mind is divided in to 3 parts. The ego (the conscious rational self), the super ego (the conscience, sometimes too rigid to the rules of society) and the id (the desire for pleasure). Think of the mind as a horse and buggy. The driver is the ego who struggles frantically to control a hungry lustful and disobedient horse (the id) while the driver’s father (the super ego) sits in the back seat lecturing the driver on what he is doing wrong. For me it's all about not allowing myself any BS excuses. I take ownership and push through when the id is telling me otherwise.

Will definitely try the 5 second rule tomorrow morning
Did it work?
AllergicRants yess! Tried it this morning
Did you continue to wake up early?
Dimpy she is sleeping 😂
I know how you feel 😁the same happens to me.
WOMAN I APPRECIATE YOU SHARING YOUR WISDOM
This video is such a blessing to all. I achieved success after I practiced the steps below.
You were very lucky that you used to always feel like it. Most people don't.

“Most of us know what we need to do”. But we also know the battle that will ensue and sometimes that battle is just too fierce.
Good luck!
D C aaah it made so much sense with your additional words. Thanks!
Well said.
We can truly never control what happens to us, but we can ALWAYS choose how to react. Taking 5 seconds to think about how we want to act or what we want to say can make a HUGE difference in how the situation plays out, ultimately affecting how we go about the rest of our day. Super valuable!
Think like a man of action, and act like a man of thought.
Are you Hala from LinkedIn? lol. You're everywhere!
I thank you Tali Sharot for motivating my daughter when thing went really had for her.
It was really so bad that she attempted committing murder until you invited Mrs Lyra Holt Dean for your TED show program.

Agreed. If you wait until you are, you will wait a long time... or ever.
Behind every feeling is a thought that is driving the feeling. If we get in touch with our thoughts, then we can control our feelings.

Best conversation on this topic I have heard. Flip it. Switch out the anger to empathy. I will remember this tomorrow when I attend a funeral and see my brother from whom I have been estranged. Thanks.🧚♀️
Thank you Jojo, sending good thoughts your way as you're dealing with difficult things

How are you doing
I use to use something like the 5 second rule in my college days. I use to be painfully shy about talking to women, but the I would count 3...2...1. By the time i went to 1, i would say "hi". My friends thought I was some bold and confident guy. But I was trying not to be single for the rest of my love. It worked. I'm now married and have a family. So, no need to use it for that purpose. But never thought about using this rule in other aspects of my life until now. This makes sense.
Ive used this to get out of bed but not to meet people, cool that you met people using this
I hope this happens for me as well
What a happy wonderful story. Thank you for sharing your experience! It helped me to imagine the possibility that I too can have a life with a wife, family, confidence/courage/persistence, success and the like. Thank you.

Thank you Mel Robbins for this!
I found this video during a process I’ve been going through of realizing that nobody is coming to save me and it’s up to me to do the things I need to do...the things I don’t want to do...the hard stuff. Hearing her say it still was powerful though.
Michael Wilson congrats!
That's what she means when she talks about 'the power of you'. The answer to our problems is within ourselves.

The trick is self discipline. One step at a time. Depression is a different story but in general, just self discipline.
Excellent work! Simplicity is the highest level of sophistication!

I can't wait to push myself more and try this 5sec rule :)
She's not exaggerating, this trick is incredibly effective

The thing is i don’t want to force my self to get out of bed, i want it to be naturally happen.
Like “ wow what a beautiful morning, lets live!” Thats what i want.
You've got to do what's best for you
JONES if I’m reading this correctly and taking it literally, it’s very important to reach out to friends or family right now. I’ve felt down like this and the most important thing is to talk to those who love you. Please do it right now.
Same. Life isn't fun
🦋that’s why it’s so important to stop second guessing yourself
