There is so much to look at in your pictures. At times almost overwhelming - enjoyed a lot. Also, thank you for the review. It helped me in my purchase (A6000 + Sony FE 20mm/2.8 APS-C Lens).
I was looking at this for the A7cr as an ultra compact lens. Good that it only loses a bit around the edges in FF mode, good for cropping rather shooting in apsc mode. Great for a street pocketable solution shooting at 5.6 to 11. Would you agree?
@@DavidHancock just spoke to someone who said the latest AF does work properly with this lens. I have no idea as I am a canon shooter at present. Apparently hunts!!
@@ChristianLawrence All I can say on that is the AF worked a-okay on my A7 IV. I could see any lens hunting if the AF isn't configured correctly for the subject type, as that happens to me if I have it set up human and try to photograph an animal.
Nice review, I just purschased a NEX5 for compactness as a second camera, and I think you made my mind about this lens! Other reviews criticize it a lot, but I don't think it's that bad and there is nothing like it regarding to compactness and prize. Thanks and greetings from the Basque Country!
Regarding the lens, I completely agree with your analysis. I have a copy and I really like it. But I was curious about the editing of your photos, a very interesting effect, an editing tutorial would be viable, on how you got the result in the photos in this video. Thanks.
Thank you! Which photos do you mean in particular? I generally don't edit too much -- adjust some sliders in raw, sharpen a bit, and if needed do a slight crop.
@@JorgeNelson.S IIRC, basically the same way. These were shot at manual aperture and shutter speed settings -- I forget which and don't have the exif handy -- with auto ISO to control exposure. In post, I edit raw. The four key sliders (and what I do with them) are highlight (drop the highlights, usually a lot), shadow (increase to recover details), white (minimal boost to make some color channels pop), and blacks (minimal reduction to add color saturation.) exact settings on those sliders vary by lens, lighting, scene color, etc. Then I bump the sharpness 1% per sensor megapixel rounded up to the nearest 5. So 35% on my A7 IV. Saturation and vibrance I usually leave alone but if they are moved I rarely adjust them more than 6%. 3 balance of editing will be horizon correction and dust removal. I also synchronize those settings across the photos and then inspect each one to see if any changes are needed. As I go, I'll delete the ones I don't like and open the ones that remain for raster editing, which involves a quick auto contrast to see if there's a benefit or effect (often neither) and then a quick unsharp mask at 15% with a threshold of 20 (I think those are the numbers.) Let me know if all that makes sense or not.
It kinda looks like that vignette is due to the rear cover. If removed it could even cover the whole sensor. That trick works with many older sony apsc lenses
2:00 you say its 13mm. I think it's the other way around. On a 20mm lens the apsc camera sees a 30mm image and the full frame will see a 20mm image including vignette.
You know what, I did that math assuming that it had a 20mm equivalent FoV on APS-C. I think you're correct -- a 30mm FoV on APS-C and a bit narrower than 20mm on FF.
hello, thank you so much for the in depth review of this lens that I can't find anywhere else... what do you think this lens performed on apsc camera? i love the small form factor of it but some says that this lens has just a touch of better quality compared to kit lens even phone camera this days... is it worth buying for long term used? thank you...
This lens is GREAT on APS-C. I used it on my A6400 and A5000 when I had those and loved the combination. I am a-okay buying used lenses and think it's a great way to get a good lens for a good price.
you re right on. Manufacture spend little in creating a more compact lens with high IO optic . Instead all curretly released wide angle lens are heavy & super large!!
While it's true that the larger lenses often correct aberrations better, the question becomes how much? Is the coma smear 6 pixels smaller for a larger lens? If yes, I don't need to sacrifice the bag space and weight for that.
i've had a bad copy of this, the center is always soft and even the kit lens at f3.5 is way sharper than this. sold it and hope i can get a better copy in the market cause i really like small lens
Glad I'm not the only one that still likes/wants smaller lenses.
Definitely not. There are a lot of us.

Thank you very much. That means a great deal to me. Also, you'll be very happy with that camera and this lens. They make a great pair.

Fantastic and this is a great lens. I hope my photos of Bilbao captured Basque Country well! :D
@@DavidHancock Haha yes, but i reccomend you to come to see more places and small towns, the essence is there!!

Good question and I honestly don't know, but I kinda want to try now. 🤓
Did you ever try it?
I just bought a ZVE1 and this lens to test the small combo! Thnx for that video! I hope I like it hahaha
Nice! That should be a great combo.

That's a bummer. I wouldn't think Sony would be a company that lets a low-grade lens pass quality control.
Basque Country = very nice 👌 Lens seems pretty decent as well.
We loved it. I'd go back in a moment and explore more. I'd like to visit the smaller towns in the countryside.
Love a 24mm!
Definitely. It's an awesome focal length.
Beautiful Bilbao pics
Thank you!
