I had a friend who was a wildlife rehabilitator, she also raised Asian Black Bear Cubs. I had one of those cubs as a houseguest about 20 years ago. Talk about smart! "Smokey Joe" could flip open our cabinets with one swipe of his paw. Closet doors he just pulled the handle down and opened them right up. He even got into our garden tub and turned the water on despite the controls being totally different from his normal home. Took him about a minute to figure out the different handles. Then he splashed around in the water, jumped out and ran into the bedroom and jumped up and down on the bed. We tried leashing him to the bedpost. To this day I still have bear tooth marks on the solid cherry bedpost.
I'm really surprised that the car doors weren't locked. No matter how safe people think the area is, they all know there are bears and they should know that bears are perfectly capable of learning how to open doors.

I’m not sure if this is cute or scary!! The fact that she’s seen someone open a door enough times to know how they work is astonishing! You can literally see her contemplating going to the next vehicle she must have considerable luck finding food in cars cause she’s checking!! Is this the new norm for Bears? As always thank you for sharing these beautiful gatherings with you and the bears! Your awesome!
Exactly!!! This is what happens when bears get accustomed to people. Yes, we all love seeing the videos of the bears and cubs and gentleness that they exhibit but the sad fact is it really can lead to problems. It would be awful and heartbreaking if she had to be removed or even euthanized just for being a bear and doing natural bear things. 99.99% of the time there isn't a problem but the consequences of just 1 bad problem can be lethal to not just the bear, but to the human or pet. If that bear had been chased off the porch or property the 1st. 2nd, 3rd or whatever time she came around, chances are the bear will stop coming around and go elsewhere and do her bear things. Again, I love watching these bears and the excellent footage that is posted but it's selfish. When it's all said and done I believe it's not ideal for the well being of the bear.
Hi from Tasmania Australia. I love watching your videos and the advice you give to furry visitors. Simone shows how clever she is opening car doors easily. Surely not a felony if people don't lock car doors knowing there are bears around. You get fined leaving cars unlocked in Australia. Love the peacefulness of your surroundings. Love your garden. Is that an Oakleaf hydrangea?... Thank you for sharing.🦘

I just love Simone she is beautiful and so very smart, Thank you Patrick for sharing this video :)
This is why here in North Vancouver Island (largest density of black bears in North America), we see signs all over that ‘fed bear is a dead bear’ Sooner or later, poor Simone will cross the threshold of human tolerance for her absolutely adorable (don’t get me wrong!) family. In the best case, she will be relocated. In the worst case, she will come back or find another human community, and will get shot. I watch your video with very mixed feelings. On one hand it’s amazing to be able to watch this momma bear with her cubs, how magnificent yet gentle she is, and I am thankful for your posts. On the other hand, I really worry about her future.
I agree! Simone and her cubs are adorable, but they're regular visitors to human neighborhoods, and you're absolutely right that at some point they may well cross the threshold to "nuisance bear" and would probably be euthanized (it seems that most states don't relocate problem bears).
i dont wanna ruin the whole awesome vibe but whenever i watch the videos i get anxious for you , especially when she does those fake charges or some burst of emotions like in the end of this video
It’s there sense of smell. I once had a truck with a snap on tonneau cover and left a 25 lb bag of sunflower seed in the bed. That night we heard a commotion and went out to check. A bear borrowed the bird seed and I figured the cover was shredded. It wasn’t. The bear unsnapped the cover and took the bag. They are smart and gentle with those big paws when they need to be.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 The bear didn't break in your cars... You left your car doors unlocked....
I'm really surprised that the car doors weren't locked. No matter how safe people think the area is, they all know there are bears and they should know that bears are perfectly capable of learning how to open doors.
No fault to the bear, it's a human's fault. They should know better especially when one lives next to the forest. See the forest right next to their house.
Not so bad. My Dad's horse got into his car and ate the convertible roof!🤣
Good reason to always lock your car doors! I’ve seen bears open the doors several times 😂
She could rip open the doors if she really wanted to.
Simone and I share the same belief - see food, eat it!!
As wonderful as it is to see the bears up close and personal, I fear for bears who get too comfortable around people and human smells.
They prefer space between themselves and humans because they feel its a threat to them not unless they were raised from a cub's age.
Awesome, such a beautiful bear!!!!!!!🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻 I am so happy that you are so kind!!!!!!!!!!!
Bonjour Patrik 🤠
Curious guest, Nice host!I love the air of this video, warm and calm. This is us, human.
That was definitely her brain cells at work. Hesitating, "Should I or should I not, mmm I think I will the coast is clear"?
Imagine getting into your car to go away and there’s a bear sitting in the back seat!
The way Simone opens the car doors with breeze.
Neighbors definitely should lock their car doors.
After trying all the cars and stuffs, Simone thinks her old pal's house is the best place to hang around.
Oh no..hope she isn't reported as a problem bear.
That's what worries me.
That's quite a sight...seeing a bear opening car doors. I love how she looked up at you as if, "What do I do?"🤣🤣🤣
She is a smooth criminal❤️
She’s looking for that French fry we all have lost between our seats 😂.
I always look forward to your commentary in the desperation box 😂❤️
Simone: I fancy a but if light larceny then off to hide out at Patrick's safe house 😂
I don't remember seeing devices attached to her ears before. Are those new?
I presume they are tracking devices of some kind.
Haha she sure did ! everyone should know if you live around wildlife or visiting someone who does you never leave the doors unlocked, or open and no food in the car that can get them get them interested. I just love Simone she is beautiful and so very smart, Thank you Patrick for sharing this video :)

Hallo Patrick Dankeschön für die tollen vidios ich freue mich jeden Tag aufs neue sie mir anzushn einfach toll glg uschi❤😊
This is why here in North Vancouver Island (largest density of black bears in North America), we see signs all over that ‘fed bear is a dead bear’
Sooner or later, poor Simone will cross the threshold of human tolerance for her absolutely adorable (don’t get me wrong!) family.
I love that the bushes in front of your porch is her safety zone
i dont wanna ruin the whole awesome vibe but whenever i watch the videos i get anxious for you , especially when she does those fake charges or some burst of emotions like in the end of this video
She knows how to open the door for sure .Definitely a repeated offender ..
I can't believe she knows how to open those car doors she is very intelligent unreal.
