Well here are, (some of) you asked for it... It's finally a MUCH longer video! I finally found an idea that justified a longer runtime, so I hope you enjoy this little documentary about The Great Wall. Should I make more longer videos? Or do you prefer the punchier short ones? :)
This is by far THE BEST Great Wall vlog I have ever seen. As a travel magazine photographer myself, I have to say you're real professional! Seriously your works deserve much more attention. I wish I could thumb up 100 times.
Amazing that you could find this place by yourself the first time you visit, but just a reminder to everyone who wants to make the wild great wall trip, do not attempt it during a possible rain, especially in summer. A lot of rain in summer in Beijing are thunder storm, and the great wall are usually the highest part on a mountain and you standing on it makes you the attraction point for lightning. We have lightling strike accident to hikers almost every year like this
Wow! One moment I thought I was watching National Geographic 👍👍 so professional. Those camera angles and the very smooth voiceover just made it. 👍👍 Best wishes from Marena and Roger
Muitanyu leads to a unrestored part of the wall all you need to do is climb over a wall and it is a completely different experience. Was one of the best days of my life and will never forget.
Thanks for your video. Well, as a Chinese living in Beijing, I have been to the Great Wall many times. But when I see the wild wall stretching into the distance as far as I can see, disappearing into the mist among those magnificent mountains, I almost cried.
Mate, this is seriously underrated. I wish you had recorded this in 4K, it would have been breath taking on my projector at home. Since 2020, I couldn't go back to China for the past few years, and I just recently found your series. Gonna go binge all of it now, I miss travelling. Keep up the great work!
Beautiful background music which frames your video perfectly, brings out the loneliness and surrealist of the location. Also like the the narrative, organized and meaningful. Professional quality - well done !
Thank you Ryan for making such a beautiful and insightful travel vlog of the Great Wall of China. You made me wanted to revisit this place all over again. Keep up your good work 💚💛🧡 best travel vlog I seen 👍🏻
This is the most complete & insightful videos for The Great Wall, thank you so much. I have been to Badaling, now I look forward to visit Jinshanling thanks to you both. GODspeed!
That mad train rush....crazy!!! Such a peaceful farm, so different from that queue line for the popular section of the wall. Great video, thanks for the insider look! c/t
All I can say is WOW. That abandoned section of the wall is like a whole other planet. Amazing to think that there was not a soul around - what a precious experience!! Parts of it looked dangerous but what a small price to pay for experiencing something most other tourists probably haven't even heard of!! The busy area in comparison looks awful, lol. DEFINITELY bookmarking this so I can come back to it and visit the abandoned area when I get to China.
It is so worth hunting down the abandoned sections - but you are right, it is dangerous and I wish I said that more in the video. It was an unforgettable experience though :)
Ryan I really loved your China series, and especially this video. Thanks for showing us different ways of seeing the Great Wall. It looked amazing. Please keep up the videos.
I went to Great Wall Nov 1999 & May 2015, “unfortunately ly” both at Badaling. I have to admit this video is the most comprehensive so far on Great Wall adventure, Bravo !
Just stunning. I watched your video as research material and you've beautifully captured exactly what I was looking for. I appreciated your voiceover describing what you're seeing and what you're thinking and the filmography is stunning. Loved that misty look too. Cheers
Found you on reddit! You have absolutely earned my subscription. Your producion vlalue and script was captivating and the incredible camerawork drove it home. Absolutely in love!
Awesome Ryan! We also did the Jinshaling section of the wall and loved it back in 2008. I feel the same Indiana Jones obsession as you do. And the great wall was a huge goal of mine. We hiked Jinshaling to Simatai and loved every second of it. I'm with you we were not into visiting the Disney land version of the wall HA! Looks like you guys are given er up the hunch back section. way to go! The views are amazing. Enjoyed the mix of forest and wall in the remote area. Keep up the great explorations in 2019. Happy New Year!
Happy new year my friend, hope you all have an amazing 2019! We loved Jinshanling, especially how it gradually gets more ruined as you walk along. Would have loved to trek all the way to Simatai - it was crazy hot that day though! Thank you!
Wow 🤩. This is awesome . The Great Wall day was a long one . We had 4 transfers on the subway to get to badaling . It was not crowded this time round . We also paid ¥40 for entrance. I must sat the Great Wall of China is not a place you can visit once or twice .
wow! what a fun adventure! the fact that you guys stayed with locals and went to an area that wasn't so touristy is amazing! thanks for sharing this! this is the way to travel! ~sara ct
What a crazy episode! So cool to see the different aspects of the Great Wall. You two have done some serious hiking/walking in your time in China! How are your feet holding up? haha. The longer runtime for this video was perfect! Especially since there was so much to show. It also better showed us your fascination and wonder with the Great Wall. Personally, I like a mix of long videos and short videos, it really depends on the subject matter :)
It'sChrisLloyd haha I've honestly never done so much hiking in my life! Been loving it though! Thanks Cris, that's how I feel about it too. I'll only be making longer videos If the idea justifies it. I'm normally a very harsh editor, so can't imagine I'll be making stuff this long very often haha
I love the editing style and overall feel of the video. It's so well put together! The music over the abandoned sections was perfect! I'd avoid the busy sections too, well worth the trekking for the views!
really does feel like i watched a documentary! really incredible and wonderfully made. would definitely want to see Section 1 and 2 myself. the toboggan ride looks like so much fun!
I visited the Great Wall of China 15 years ago! I went in the winter so it wasn't crowded but it was freezing. I am not sure what section we went to. I would love to go back when it is warmer and do more hiking. I think that Jinshanling section looks perfect.
The magnificent panoramic view below the highest watch tower you reached is as professional as cinematic photography. Thank you so much for your great presentation. It's beyond belief that so much heavy construction materials could be transported manually up to such heights about 500 years ago ( when the Ming Dynasty sections were constructed near Beijing ), & further back to more than 2000 years ago along various other sections.
I never visited Badaling. Also decided to visit Jinshanling. Walked there partly the unrestored section, a pity that my girlfriend didn't want to walk further and the thunderstorms where coming in. Would love to have explored more of the unrestored part. Great coverage!
My family went to the Great Wall a few years ago and they didn't seem to keen on the experience although they said the tobogganing was fun. The abandoned bit sounds like my cup of tea though. Dude, I know I say it every time but your videos are amazing. I love your little preview insert at the beginning here. It's like I'm watching BBC or something and you don't naturally pay much attention to the music but the way you match the music to the clips and atmosphere is awesome. Oh and I've only just realised but I think we may use the same glitch overlay for our intro text 😝 but yours is more sped up. Your excitement at seeing the wall is so evident which is really nice to watch! Haha my family had the same experience with the Chinese always wanting pictures taken with them! I love ruins too. It feels almost weird that parts are being restored as they're just not the same as the original... though I can see the mindset behind the idea. Omg that run for the train looks horrible but at least there was an adorable Chowchow doggo at the other end. OK I'm just gonna post my comment now as it's getting way too long.
Ella in Wanderlust haha thanks Ella! Really glad you liked this one. It was a. bit of an experiment for me, because I never really make longer videos. We probably do use the same glitch effects, do you use the overlays in Final Cut?
I know its overly touristy, but I want to do that toboggan ride so badly! This definitely makes me want to venture out to another part of the wall when I do finally go. Gonna save this video so I can refer to the sections when I get to planning.
Haha the good thing is that there is a part of the wall for everyone! The annoying thing about the toboggan is that you can't really get too much speed going because there's so many people on it! Enjoy your trip when you get there!
@@OneShotAdventures Yeah you've convinced me to go to Jinshanling which I never even knew about so thank you! I have to confess, most of my motivation for the toboggan is that I convinced my 58 year old dad to do it with me when we finally go haha!
Thank you, I loved traveling the wall with you. It was on my bucket list for years but I've heard so often about the many/uneven steps and the crowds that we never went. Now we are in our 60s I doubt we will ever go, so I enjoy watching others travels and adventures instead. Thoroughly enjoyed watching :)
I love ruins as well. Thank you for this! Weren’t you scared of encountering wild animals (snakes for example) along the way since the area was already engulfed by the forest?
This was by far our favourite video so far!!! We loved it and we think that was because there was a lot of speaking in it and comparing the three different spots was really well done! Oh and it was longer 🙂👍 Would definitely visit the quiter one and the ruined on, looked like a great adventure!!! Thanks for sharing this!
Your video is epic! SO well shot and edited! We lived in China for a couple of years and I think you nailed it! hoping to backpack there again soon with our baby :-)
Jinshanling looks like a perfect balance for me. (I might actually have been to Mutianyu or Badaling before when I was five...) Also, I travelled to one end of the great wall, the desert end, in Jiayuguan in 2010. it was also amazing. Yes, it was quite restored, but with just a few tourists AND had desert and snow capped mountains for the view
Rick R yeah Jinshanling is great! I would love to see the desert end too, it looks so different from the other sections I have seen! Thanks for watching 😊
The Tobbogan ride looks terrifying yet exciting! I always wondered if everyone starts at the same section of the Great Wall. I would much rather go to the less crowded area. So glad you got to see your "Mickey Mouse" :) So so amazing!! I hope to visit the Great Wall of China one day.
I really enjoyed watching that! I like how it's all been edited together. Had to laugh at your dash to a seat on the train. I would have preferred the wild section - those views are fantastic.
Because of this video, I decided to go to Jinshanling, and it was amazing. I was also fortunate enough to have the visit mutianyu on the same day. Jinshanling was exactly what I was looking for, it is developed but not as tourist crazy as mutianyu and it has even better views of the Great Wall. Thank you so much.
Awesome video. I really liked the comparison of the different parts of the wall. I don't like crowds. The abandoned section looked amazing. Greenery and ruins look so good together.
_12:07__ This is what a Vlog should be, and adventuromance should look like on top of the world, in perfect harmony with the whispering nature, under the dragon sun._
Jeeze us !!! That looks downright dangerous in spots !!! Looks like you might have needed climbing tackle for part of that hike. What about wild animals and poisonous plants if any ??? Thanks for an amazing look. Well done !!
Three cheers for this longer video!!! We were captivated. Truly! How did you come up with the idea to compare three sections of the wall? (A very good one, btw...) Some of your shots were absolutely amazing and the song you used for the best section of the wall was spot on--greatly enhanced our viewing experience. Bet you can guess which we thought is the best section... 😃
Thanks so much guys! I guess it came from the fact that I was very conflicted about which section of the wall to visit. I knew I wanted to see some more ruined sections, but I didn't want to miss out on the restored ones either. So I thought other people must be in the same situation haha
Found you from brother dunne and looks like the type of channel we like.....travel and adventure we are in,,,,, great job on the video good info and you did a great job presenting
Attract tourists to one of the restored sections is the best way to protect it, IMO. If there were not a GOTO place, people went all over. It's just impossible to prevent it from possible damages and keep it in good shape along the whole 25000km. Leave them out of human reach is the best we can do so far.
Ok so the Mutianyu section is one to avoid then. I love the section where you took the cable car, I travel with family so it seems like the perfect mix of accessibility and isolation. That wild part of the wall was really dangerous looking, but I could tell you were really having a moment there, which is moving.
HotMamaTravel I've gotta say, kids would love the Mutianyu section. The slide is really fun! But yes, Jinshanling definitely has the best of both worlds 😊
Thanks a lot. Dream of climbing up, but it is too long to explore to the heart's content. Your vlog at least gives me an idea of what is like to be there.
Ha!!! At 6:12 is a "knuckle-head" goose. I had one of those once, as a backyard pet. It was always biting at my pants legs, wanting a handout of bread or corn.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! They are so packed full of great information while at the same time keeping it super interesting! The great wall of china has been on my list, but not that high up.... I think that has now changed after watching your video. I hate crowds so I love that you showed a couple of sections you can go to without any. I'm like you, I LOVE ruins! I'm definitely saving this video for future reference when planning my future trip to china :-)
This would have to be one of the best videos i've watched about the great wall here on RUclips That's where my husband and sister in law were yesterday Mutianyu section Loved watching this video here in england this morning Carlene M
I visited Badaling in Jan, went for the earliest train heading there from Beijing, and was the only one that got off the train that headed to the Great Wall (a handful of people got off at the same stop but went to the nearby ski resort). Had the Badaling all to myself for a 1/2 hr. It was an amazing experience. A cold one for sure but without other tourists.
DUDE! This was a masterpiece! 😍 your best work thus far! sad to say I went to the touristy part with the toboggan 😂😂 This video makes so excited for where your channel is going mate!
...my dream come true as well...been there in 2019 and it was a great experience though I wasn't able to explore the wall like what you did....I have to congratulate you guys😃👏👏👏
SO beautiful, that's a hard pick - like you said the restorations look amazing but I love the idea of being out there all alone and taking in the beauty. -c/t

@@OneShotAdventures there was snow but not on the wall and it was pretty cloudy so we couldn't see too far, but still such an amazing place

Just Let Me Travel thanks so much guys, really appreciate you coming over to my channel 😊
Won another subscriber!!..so professional. Loved it.
Loved the GW. Just amazing. The views are amazing.
This video is one hidden gem. Looking forward to visit the Great Wall. :)
Attract tourists to one of the restored sections is the best way to protect it, IMO. If there were not a GOTO place, people went all over. It's just impossible to prevent it from possible damages and keep it in good shape along the whole 25000km. Leave them out of human reach is the best we can do so far.
Absolutely amazing video and good content. Love the way you edit too. I love it!
Thanks Andy!
It's really one of the nice video, great to see you visited wild section and editing is just awesome. Keep it up.
Raj Patel thanks Raj!
This was amazing. Section 1 and 2 are so worth visiting! 😀
Alexandra Dumitrescu Section 2 really blew my mind! 😊
im so lucky to find this story of you ... truly inspiring.. i wanna do it too...
Thanks a lot. Dream of climbing up, but it is too long to explore to the heart's content. Your vlog at least gives me an idea of what is like to be there.
You two are really great!
kingshow ng thanks kingshow!
Nomadic Buff thank you so much! Yes, ruins are the best! 😊
This would have to be one of the best videos i've watched about the great wall here on RUclips
That's where my husband and sister in law were yesterday
Mutianyu section
Loved watching this video here in england this morning
Carlene M
Wow thank you Carlene! Really glad you enjoyed the film :)
Absolutely incredible video! I feel so connected to it, so immersed. I'll be doing Jiankou later this April
Thank you! I've heard a lot about Jiankou and it looks incredible - have a good one!
Very very interesting! Need to go at some point, I want to go to the best spot!
Dreamy Travel Story I highly recommend heading to the wilder sections! 😊
This video is awesome !! :) I really enjoyed that and I felt like I watched a document :) Can't wait for next viddeo c/t
Thanks Vera!
I was there 2 weeks ago, it was an amazing experience, despite the weather being so hot
Awesome! Which section did you visit? The heat definitely makes it more challenging
Thnk you sharing. Its beautiful. Wish I could go where you went.
Thank you for watching!
Mate, absolute great vlog, thanks
Cheers again!
Wow!! Cool video! Beautiful and breathtaking.
Great video! Get to going back to Great Wall again
Ivan Ly thanks!
Great idea to stay with a family. And yes many parts are quite a challenge. Hard climbs quite often.
Really great video, you need more views and subscribers!
DUDE! This was a masterpiece! 😍 your best work thus far! sad to say I went to the touristy part with the toboggan 😂😂 This video makes so excited for where your channel is going mate!
Thanks so much mate! Glad you think so, as it was a bit of an experiment!
I really enjoyed watching this...cheers...from Vancouver, Canada
...my dream come true as well...been there in 2019 and it was a great experience though I wasn't able to explore the wall like what you did....I have to congratulate you guys😃👏👏👏
Great video!
Yating Ma thank you!
fantastic! Thanks for sharing all of your experiences.
Stadlmf you're welcome, thanks for watching 😊
This is incredible 😮
SO beautiful, that's a hard pick - like you said the restorations look amazing but I love the idea of being out there all alone and taking in the beauty. -c/t
Nomadic Gear definitely! There's good things about both, but that's why Jinshanling is cool - you get both! 😊
very cool
Thank you!
Great video
Unai thanks Unai!
