I can't imagine how it feels for the tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers stationed on the Great Wall for years and years even decades on rotation and away from their families, going through the bitter cold and on alert at all times to defend China. I have the utmost respect for all those soldiers. They are heroes!!
The wall was like sentries where the soldiers take duties. They do not really stay on the wall all time but when there is invasion, they guard there and cut their supplies if the anemies went cross the boarder.
There were surviving outposts alongside the silkroad leading up to the western part of the wall that dates back to the Han dynasty. They are mostly just dirt mound and fragmented potteries. The sole purpose of soldiers living in those outposts were to light the beacon and alert the wall guards that enemies are coming, and since the outposts are beyond the wall, they most likely would've died. @@Alan_and_Shannon you are amazing! fyi, the very first and well known great wall was built up in BC214 in Qin(Chin) Dynasty, it means 214 years before the Christian year, the place you mentioned 1404 was built up in Ming Dynasty, 800 years later, Ming did lots of rebuilt and built, but it is called the great wall to our modern generation, today is 2024, none of us is more than 800 years older after all

Thank you for sharing you experiences with us. To see the Great Wall in the winter is very rare and I am very lucky to experience it through your videos.
Hello guys, you didn't mention which section of the great wall you visited. Looking up the 916 bus to the great wall says mutianyu section. As i have also been there from the Beijing bus station, it looks a lot similarly to my trip with the exception i went during the summer and when you get dropped off from the bus during peak season and the mini vans are busy many black taxis await you and the drivers without speaking much English work you over for an extremely high price that you have to do your best bargaining to get down to a reasonable price (if you're alone/tourist) with that said they do take care of you the same way as your driver did. Help you get your tickets to go up, tell you take your time an hour or two and will be looking for you to take you back to the bus stop area. What i also didn't notice is the mutianyu area has a cart slide in a half tube sorta say option to ride back down from the wall. Obviously would be to cold on your day to ride it, yet is it still there? Dusty....
Hats off to you Alan & Shannon. I went alone to Beijing, in spite of knowing mandarin, I still find it challenging to navigate around at times. For Great Wall I booked with a reputable tour agent. They had an English speaking local guide that gave us many insight into the rebuilding of the GW. The ancient wall was built with solid bricks inside so it was so thick that it can withstand harsh environmental. During the years of poverty in past centuries peasants or villages took away some of these bricks to build their houses . To rebuild them the government has to request the villagers to return the bricks either with financial returns or have their names inscribed as a way to thank them.
❤Magnificent Great Wall of China. Men made structure stretching several thousand kilometers. Imagine in ancient times, soldiers manning the walls during such harsh weather. Mind blowing.🎉❤
Wow. The Great Wall during winter is beautiful - completely different look and feel to summer. But you must have been frozen - at least the wind didn't look that bad.

we will be in Beijing and planning to climb the Great Wall on winter. i will take note of bringing lots of winter clothing so me and my kids can survive the cold. but if we see that it’s not safe as they say, during the snow fall it is now safe to climb then we will not. as long as we have reached any of the section (mutianyu/badaling) that would suffice to fullfill my bucket list

Love your video, so much energy.
What a fantastic experience you brought to us all in the comfort of our homes in front of a computer!! This is an inspiration for me to visit Great Wall Mutianyu. Keep enjoying your experience in China. I will be there soon.
we will be in Beijing and planning to climb the Great Wall on winter. i will take note of bringing lots of winter clothing so me and my kids can survive the cold. but if we see that it’s not safe as they say, during the snow fall it is now safe to climb then we will not. as long as we have reached any of the section (mutianyu/badaling) that would suffice to fullfill my bucket list
Hainan’s local specialties, coconut rice, coconut chicken soup, coconut seafood soup, coconut pastries, special roast chicken, special black
volcano mutton hot pot
Alan & Shannon, for your info. if you go visit The Great wall again. There is a 20 min. high speed train from Qinghe Station in Beijing to the Great Wall Badaling! Very convenient and reasonable ride! Also one from Beijing north station as well!
A true emotional moment at the end. A life of adventure! Carpe diem, seize the day, gather ye rosebuds while ye may!
Hello @Alan&Shannon
In which month did you actually travel to the Great Wall of 🇨🇳? I am from Pakistan and I'm planning to visit the great wall in December.
I will definitely go in winter,sooo beautiful❤❤❤
这种天气去北方,真是勇气可嘉,索性去更冷的哈尔滨看看冰雕。建议去南方比如广州,如果想看未来城市就去深圳,想吃点东西就去顺德,随便找家餐馆通常也就100rmb一个人。
Hello! Welcome to China. I have watched a lot of your videos and they are very good. I would like to make a small suggestion. When changing the lens, you can slow down a little. This will be smoother and will not make the audience dizzy. If you use the pocket3 just released by DJI, it will be even more perfect!
You guys should do a video with: for all life’s adventures
