I just cant imagine how the workers had to climb the mountain and brought all the bricks up there to built the great wall...how the warriors had to go up there real fast when enemies came to attack...just unimaginable....salut to the ancient chinese
?? That's not how the Great Wall works. The Great Wall is essentially an e-mail service from 200 BC. There are only a few locations that an invasion could access Northern China. If an invasion was detected, the nearest pyre would be lit. Then, the soldier at the 2nd pyre would light his pyre, letting the soldier at the 3rd pyre light his pyre, then the 4th, etc. This system of pyres being lit would very quickly travel to the capital in Western China, allowing the central government to mobilize forces weeks earlier than possible.
jyashin I can said what jyashin describe is absolutely correct! And in additional, the tower is the barricade for the watchmen tower. After the pyre is lit, the soldier will barricade themselves, basically fending themselves till reinforcement arrive from the nearest responsed barrack. You can see from the video, when Claire enter the tower from the stair, from outer portion of the tower, she need to bend down to enter, and the entry only allow single soldier/person at a time. The tactic was simple, enemy spotted, if they attempt to breach, soldier barricade themselves, fight off them from the high section of the wall, if wall breach, attempt to retreat to higher section of the wall, fight again, if breach, retreat to tower, barrride, and defend, slaughter whoever came through the entry. The soldier will have supply stored in the tower which normally will last them for months, till help arrive. Like Attila, Alan or goths, the northern invader are compromise of marauding horde, they attack, pillage, enslave, rob whatever they can, then they will ride back across the gobi dessert. The walls function are to stop these incursion.

Thanks Claire for a wonderful video. I am 66 years old and have been to China once, passing through on my way back from the Philippines. I have always wanted to visit the Great Wall for several reasons. It represents China in a time when they probably were the Superior Nation on the entire planet. While they dined on dainties prepared throughout an organized empire, unwashed Europeans ate with their hands. Julius Caesar enjoyed wearing a crimson silk tunic, and many of the garments of later Popes were filled with silk. China represents Intellect, culture, power, harmony, and fear of change. Today people still marvel at the wall built on the backs of countless peasants, soldiers, and prisoners who had no real appreciation for it. They only endured the daily grind. And the last word is the best. The Chinese have endured the unfolding of hundreds of centuries with great patience. I don't think them war like, as much as I think of them minding their principalities. They are most huge in population, but so peaceful in person. I suppose rather than fear them, we should study them and understand mankind over time in a single place always being. The views are superb and I really enjoyed the video. I hope many things wonderful come for you and your life friend. Peace and love, and being a Christian... peace and love in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!!

My family and I had the pleasure to visiting China about ten years ago and one of our most unique ventures while there was going to the Great Wall of China and walk some of the passage ways. Your video brought back many memories about how much of the wall has broken down into pieces making not an easy hike through some of the area. Even then it was amazing to see and realize that here we were walking along some of the passage ways on the Great Wall of China. To see in person is so amazing that there no way any photos or videos can show all there is to see. To even try and conceive how it was even possible to build something as this. To see the wall going through the mountain ways up and down the hills and at times some appearing to be going into the clouds way up high as if it was a passage way into Heaven. It really is one of the most unique wonders of the world! Thanks for sharing your video.
I climbed this in my 20s with my family and it was epic. Going up was hard but coming down was even harder. My arms and legs were just shaking the whole time.
From this we can imagine the majesty of the Beijing City Wall, 20 meters -30 meters high, gear-like structure, there are 4-5 layers of archery buildings on the city walls. In ancient Beijing, it was not like resisting the human army, as if used to resist (The Lord of the Rings) monsters. Unfortunately, the Communist Party was demolished
It makes remembering my last climb to the wall in 2008 with my family. That’s more than a decade ago so much is changed. We maybe never going up there again, but it marks our life.
In my first semester at college, I went for a hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu with 3 friends. We spent about half a day to finish. That experience was my closet to death. We had a large portion of the path with only a width of two bricks to set foot on. You have bushes on one side and the cliff on the other. I also remember a point you have to hold an iron bar to swing your body over the cliff. We completely stopped talking in the last few hours as a result of fatigue, fear, and stress. We run out of water and food, but we finally made it to the Mutianyu.
While hikers getting exhausted by climbing jus imagine how much energy n effort paid by workers... Wonderful will power and determination... absolutely insane 👏👏

This Great Wall unifies us as Chinese thousands of years ago and it will continue to serve the purpose. Thank you for sharing such magnificent view on the wall.
Thank you, Claire, for sharing your respects for the privilege of walking what I think is sacred grounds. 'When Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered construction of the Great Wall around 221 B.C., the labor force that built the wall was made up largely of soldiers and convicts. It is said that as many as *400,000 people died during the wall's construction; many of these workers were buried within the wall itself.'
I was fortunate enough to have hiked that wall with my friends not too long ago. We hiked the opposite direction of the heaven staircase for about 20km or so to the red tower in the direction of Mutainyu. I thought I was going to die that day and wondered if the Red Cross could airlift me out of there. It is a beast and the fact that you did it shows alot about your character. Experiencing Jiankou is something out of this world. Absolutely breathtaking as well as dangerous. Videos still fail to capture the terror those steep walls instill in you. Definately not a hike for the fainthearted that's for sure! Well done!

One of the greatest things of the great wall is you will never find something like the great wall anywhere else in the world. just unimaginable....salute to the ancient Chinese...The great wall represents ancient and modern Chinese. That is a country with over 5000 years of history. There are a lot of things the rest of the world can learn from it.
Of all the "foreigner goes to the great wall" videos, yours is my favorite. Just have to admit it. Much less blinking to the camera and more real hiking. The urinating part is great.
As a guy pushing 60, I’m just amazed how technology has given people the opportunity to do amazing things like this for a living. Our choices were basically trade, factory or white collar job and very few people got travel for a living unless you were a pilot or stewardess(flight attendant now!) and most of us had to do jobs that we didn’t like just to support our families. Hats off to the new generation.
Such a picturesque scene at 13:10 that alone would make hours and hours of hiking worthwhile I could see myself just sitting there, gazing out into the sea of fog in awe while I soak in the truly breathtaking sight

I thought the so-called "wild great wall" was forbidden to visit. As more and more exposure of the site happening on the Internet and better and better roads leading to the site, I am sure more and more people would be attracted to it. Imagine what trouble the local government would have if there had been fatalities on the wall. If climbing that segment of the wall is not already illegal, I think it will soon be.
Wowwee awesome vid, I always wanted to go see the great wall but this has solidified it on my bucket list, and not do just the touristy day trip. Thanks.
I did a hike from Jiankou to the Mutianyu section of the wall a couple years ago. This really takes me back to one of the worst and also best hikes of my life. Worst, because I thought I was going to die on atleast 6 occasions. The heavenly stairs were one of those times. We spent about 28 hours on the wall with a 6 hour sleep session in between. Can't wait to go back and experience a different section of it
The early wall sections were built out of stone or earth. The brick sections that we're familiar with were built were built 400-750 years ago during the Ming Dynasty. A number of sections within easy access of tourists have now been renovated. A bit of a shame in many ways. Have a look at the wiki article. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Wall_of_China

A.m.a.z.i.n.g!!!!! My 12-year-old loved it. Great choice of wall section to explore. Reclaimed by nature. To be walking where history was made. Awesome. Thank you. Lovely video.
This Great Wall unifies us as Chinese thousands of years ago and it will continue to serve the purpose. Thank you for sharing such magnificent view on the wall.
respect to the ancestors.
Well done!
Wow no amount of words I can type to describe your video.. only things that comes to mind is magnificent ✨
This is incredible, most people that I've seen haven't even gotten anywhere close to the crumbling ruins. Yet there you are, daring what they wouldn't. Amazing 🤗
didnt realise that we have such a splendid heritage in my country thank you Claire
I just want to let you guys know how much I have been enjoying watching these amazing travel videos. I randomly came across the one that you guys filmed in Shanghai, which’s my hometown! And I’m in the middle of my finals study period for my law school finals, these videos lifted up my mood a lot! Sending love to you!

May i ask a question about the wall?
Beautiful but very thrilling great wall of China... Love and repsect for them from 🇵🇰
Wow stunning, mankind, history, so heavy
What an experience guys! We feel like we're right there with you. We can see how you would be completely overwhelmed. This is too awesome. I bet you guys were destroyed the next day. The story of how you were able to pee is the best! Beautiful video.

I got cramps in my legs just seeing this... and I got panicked when she said my whole body is shaking.. I don't know but I was able to feel it.... scariest....
I think it is UHmazing you and Justin did this. I love it. You're so often, "Omg omg omg!!!" and then there is this.
Amazing adventures.. one of amazing place to visit. Knowing those wall still stand strong after 2000 years time. Cant imagine how those ancient people build such wall, amazing
without a local guide, these wild great walls could get people killed, all it takes is a loose brick from two thousand years ago.
lol
go following the outdoor tracks.
like foooooot.com.
Exactly. And most of chance you would die from a brick made in Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago.
it’s fun though
the current great wall was around couple of hundreds years old (Ming Dynasty). Still it is very dangerous.
It is so incredible to visit ancient heritage site and to knew about them .
As a Chinese, when I'm watching this vlog,I sunddenly figure this country's history as long as the great wall, but I don't know a lot,and how small I am(sorry for my poor English...)
Ze Zhang You should be more confident! English not your first language, you did a good job !
You are great ! You are bilingual! Better than most native English speakers .
好像爬野长城是违法的,且不论违不违法,这种地方前不着村后不着店,救援困难,这也是对自己生命的不负责

So beautiful, foggy maintain, great wall, looks like ancient chinese paintings, I'm really touched by your video!
Claire, you are my Idol. I have extremely respect to you after watching this and am amazed of your courage doing this. I would like to hug you ! Milan
Such a picturesque scene at 13:10 that alone would make hours and hours of hiking worthwhile
I could see myself just sitting there, gazing out into the sea of fog in awe while I soak in the truly breathtaking sight
She is a exception person, excellent video great balance and photography , well edited and enjoyable to watch. Anyone who dislikes this is only jealous
One of the best travel videos I've seen in recent times. Breathtaking visuals. So much risk and worth the effort. Walking and climbing with the selfie stick...that again was giving me goosebumps.
Guys, thanks for sharing this awesome video with the world
(The best part is no semi-clad women running around in slow motion)
Belated welcome to my hometown Beijing! I stumbled upon your channel and I'm still loving it after an hour of binge-watching. I was thinking that the quality of your videos deserve at least a million more viewers and should get some attention from the Tourism Bureau of Beijing, Zhangjiajie, Huashan, Guilin etc to use for their marketing, right until the peeing off the Great Wall part.
That was hilarious though I had tea coming out of my nose laughing.
Thanks for these amazing videos and hope to see more.
Respect the people who build it but will never be known.
LOVE YOU CLAIRE! Love watching you grow daily! You da best!
Amazing capture. You inspired me here Clair. The take was so scary even on just watching here. I will do this one day, I really hope so. Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!
Hi Claire, I just found your video and had already watched two videos, I have to say thank you for making so wonderful videos about China, As a Chinese I appreciate it very much! Thank you!!
You guys are great. Thanks for introducing me to what extent our ancestors were willing to go in order to keep the peace.
Hiking on the “wild” great wall is very dangerous. Take care
实际上文物保护的,修完就被踩,有人还带石头走,建议还是去八达岭那种吧,更壮观,别破坏文物了。以后越来越少的。

Wowwee awesome vid, I always wanted to go see the great wall but this has solidified it on my bucket list, and not do just the touristy day trip. Thanks.
I did a hike from Jiankou to the Mutianyu section of the wall a couple years ago. This really takes me back to one of the worst and also best hikes of my life. Worst, because I thought I was going to die on atleast 6 occasions. The heavenly stairs were one of those times. We spent about 28 hours on the wall with a 6 hour sleep session in between.
Can't wait to go back and experience a different section of it
Wow, I never saw these portion of the Grate Wall! It's hard to imagine how they were built more than 2000 years ago.
The early wall sections were built out of stone or earth. The brick sections that we're familiar with were built were built 400-750 years ago during the Ming Dynasty. A number of sections within easy access of tourists have now been renovated. A bit of a shame in many ways. Have a look at the wiki article.

Oh my god, I only visited the touristy sections and your video makes me wanna go to these remote portions, it already shocked me through your video
This is the first time for me to look at the real great wall from this great video.

The will of the Chinese nation's unity is indestructible, Because we built the Great Wall!
Sure, the Chinese built the wall to keep the illegal Mexicans out. You don't have any illegal Mexicans in China, do you?
@@marcbachelet2322 Unfortunately, the Great Wall failed to stop the invasion of Nomads from the North. Proven by the Chinese history, the military meanings of the Great Wall is actually meaningless. However, the spirit of unity and cooperation of building the wall encouraged multiple generations of Chinese to unite and make China great again!
@@PlutoidBruno nope the great wall fail because of the Chinese them self not the wall cause some Chinese during that time rebel and open the gates for the enemy . There was a saying by Genghis khan "the wall is only as strong as the people behind it".
You have some of the best aerial shooting clips in this video, and the background music just makes the wall more magnificent 😃😃😃. Love your work👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for showing with this!! Amazing!
I'm Japanese. I watched your video as a beginner in mountain climbing. I don't understand English because I use a translator. I can't even read comments. I want to tell you. Thank you for the best view. I think mountain climbing is the best sport to connect with people all over the world.
