Stopping penetration of the wall wasn't the main purpose, it was meant to hold up and cause delay just so thar reinforcements could be sent. Every wall can be penetrated, when being attacked the watchtowers would signal for reinforcements from the other watchtowers.

    • @yewsoonfatt
      @yewsoonfatt Год назад

@@wildestcowboy2668 thats the truth. the chinese built them to delay the the nomad armies and to buy time for the central to gather reinforcement. the chinese dont deploy lots of men at the wall, only a some minimum sentries to guard the wall, because the cost is very high to support a soldier at the wall, you dont understand how difficult it is for people in ancient time to bring food and water there. the chinese knew the wall itself cannot stop the warriors from the north, you people have no idea about how the nomad fight, its not just a bunch of riders, but also followed by the herds of sheeps and cows, which is the support for the nomads. the wall might not be able to stop the mongolian from climbing and crossing the wall, but it definitely is a great obstacle for the herds. if the invaders want to storm China with speed, they will need to give up their herds at the wall, else they gonna waste some time to get the herds crossing the wall to continue the conquest. one of the main advantage the mongolian and other nomads have is their mobility, they dont rely on supplies from the rear line like the chinese army, the herds are their food and supplies. and the wall is connected from other provinces, which means that even the mongols broke one point of the wall and made it through the wall, it doesnt mean that they have controlled or completely destroyed the wall, in fact, the chinese always can use the remaining part of the wall to send their back up to take back the wall and form a great encirclement against the invaders. now thats how the wall is meant for. you learned something new today

if i was china i would rebuild the great wall. Do u know that the span of time from the first brick laid to the last is farther than the last brick to present day!! That would mean if the wall was rebuilt it would quote on quote still be an on going process. And in modern times all the walls would be attached. Every section would have sections may be arched at intervals and some stretchs of the wall would be arched to allow people and animals to pass and for plants to grow. By rebuilding the wall several important things are accomplished. First off there are over a million bodies wihtin teh walls and they would all be exumed and then reburied along the walls lengths in national cemiteries. Second, modern Chinese citizens could have their names on a brick along with any other Chinese from the past; this would be an honor to all that had their names on the bricks. Some of the brick could be kept and used in the interior of the walls of the tower but most would be used in interior walls of towns and cities that would be built along the wall, as well as for park benches and many other things close to the wall. This Would symbolize that the Great Wall isn't just a stone wall, but a living breathing thing; a dragon who is still protecting the people. it would be the most amazing thing to walk and or bike on....

During the Mongols invasion of China in 13th century, the mighty Mongol army creatively went around the Great Wall of China, easily got inside and savagely massacred all the Chinese people, leaving a mountain of human skulls/bones outside the Great Wall that could be visible from miles away for years. “Body [of the Chinese prisoners] stacked ‘like rotten logs’ littered the ground for more than 30 miles.” The mighty Mongol army led by Subedei (also known as Subutai-one of the greatest military commanders and strategists in history), continued to brutally burn, pillage, rape, and murder all the populations of 90 Chinese cities over 6 months. But, wait! It was not China's true Great Wall people talked about. Many even confirmed that the actual Great Wall of China had not been built until 16th century by the Ming Dynasty, long after the mighty Mongols invasion of China! This truly answered many questions. First, the 2,700-year-old history of China's Great Wall was just a myth because it has been in fact built for only about 500 years since 16th century. Also in 1644, the weakened Ming government was quickly overthrown by the Manchus-a peasant led rebellion marching their army through gates of the Great Wall at “the First Pass under Heaven” (aka shanhaiguan) without any fight! This meant the Ming Dynasty ironically spent over 100 years building the Wall to defend Mongol invasion ... only let another group of northern foreigners simply march through and take over, starting a new dynasty: The Quing Dynasty! Moreover, during the Sino-Japanese War of 1937-45, it took less than 3 days for the Japanese troops to break through the Wall after having totally defeated the United Chinese Front. Today, thousands of bullet holes can be seen along the Wall from the battle. The last question is: Was the Great Wall of China effective in keeping out foreign invaders? The answer is NO! Because of its ultimate failure, many people around the world, including Chinese people have seen the Great Wall as "an enormously expensive strategic folly." It is in fact said in ancient Chinese folklore, "Even a woman's tears were enough to collapse the Wall." Eventually, unable to protect the Chinese as intended, the Great Wall of China has sadly become a historic symbol of China's eternal shame and failure. Even Chairman Mao viewing the Wall as a "feudal relic", had actively encouraged farmers to make use of the stones and bricks from the Wall as free construction materials even before the Cultural Revolution and Red Guards.

@@b11-x3o According to historians, known as the most violent barbarians in human history, the Mongols had been fully responsible for displacing the world populations and changing the face of human history through their widespread bloody massacres. Scholars regard the Mongol conquest as one of the deadliest invasions in human history. In fact, it took Iran almost a century to recover its original peak population prior to the Mongols' invasion. Every inch on earth the Mongols passed, was greased with human fat and soaked with human blood. Even the deadliest winters in Russia could not deter the Mongols from invading Moscow and Kiev. Suffering the same fate as the European countries, countries in West Asia including Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey one by one submitted to the mighty Mongol army. Sadly, China was not an exception. The Chinese Empire said to the mighty Mongol Empire, "Our Empire is as vast as the sea, yours is but a handful of sand." The Chinese had paid a deadly price for their arrogance they would never forget. The mighty Mongol army creatively went around the Great Wall of China, easily got inside and savagely massacred all the Chinese people, leaving a mountain of human skulls/bones outside the Great Wall that could be visible from miles away for years. According to historians, “Body [of the Chinese prisoners] stacked ‘like rotten logs’ littered the ground for more than 30 miles.” The mighty Mongol army led by Subedei continued to brutally burn, pillage, rape, and murder all the populations of 90 Chinese cities for over 6 months. As a result, unable to protect the Chinese people from the Mongols' attack, China's Great Wall has sadly become a historic symbol of China's eternal shame and failure. Finally, the mighty Mongol army conquered all of China in 1279 after Western Xia Dynasty, Dali Kingdom, Jin Dynasty and Song Dynasty all one by one shamefully surrendered to the Mongols. In less than 80 years, the Mongol Empire encompassed entire land from the Pacific Ocean to the Danube River.

@@b11-x3o The defense of the Great Wall during January 1 - May 31, 1933 was a campaign between the armies of Republic of China and Empire of Japan, which took place before the Second Sino-Japanese War officially commenced in 1937 and after the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931. It is known in Japanese as Operation Nekka and in many English sources as the First Battle of Hopei. During this campaign, Japan successfully captured the Inner Mongolian province of Rehe from the Chinese warlord Zhang Xueliang, and incorporated it into the newly created state of Manchukuo, whose southern frontier was thus extended to the Great Wall of China. The Second Sino-Japanese War-World War II’s often overlooked “missing section of the jigsaw,” as British historian Antony Beevor puts it-took root long before Germany’s 1939 invasion of Poland. Indeed, by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, which gripped the Western world’s attention, China had been embroiled for five years in an even bloodier military conflict with Japan. However, China was not ready for full-scale war against Japan and adopted the controversial policy of “first internal pacification, then external resistance.” Hence Chinese forces in Manchuria put up virtually no resistance against the Japanese invasion. Eventually, Japan’s occupation of China is estimated to have caused the death of three to five million Chinese citizens.

1 man moving 100 bricks a day for a year is 36,500. 10,000 men is 365,000,000 in a year. When you figure out the number of workers they're saying built it, they didn't have to move many bricks a day for more than a few years. It's the digging, setting up, and the process of making the bricks that made them so efficient. The chinese have always been intelligent, and the great wall is just another example of their knowledge and abilities. I'd love to see it in person. To see the silk road and the palaces all over china. Can you imagine visiting the Mongolian empire in its prime? It must've been an amazing sight.

0:29 It is added to over the centuries as different dynasties lengthened and strengthened it
    Utter garbage!
Later Dynasties built independent and separate Walls completely different from the Qin Wall. The Wall built by Qin Shi Huang during the Qin Dynasty was however used and repaired in the beginning of the Han Dynasty initially but eventually built separate Walls.
1.03 This monumental brick structure is over 13,000 miles long
No! The whole length of the Wall was not completely bricked.
    2:04 Impossible to farm???
Rubbish, It was possible to farm albeit on a small scale and certainly during the 16th century, there was increased farming with the Mongols with the aid of the Chinese.
2:16 Nomads raided also for political recognition and to form confederations to gain tribal support.
3:21 The vulnerability of Beijing came into perspective?
The vulnerability was always in perspective ever since the capital was relocated there, not just due to the 1550 "invasion". There was another similar incident in 1449.
3:42 The “question” after 1550 was never “how could the Great Wall of China fail?” It was about the need to seriously contemplate trade and tribute with the Mongols instead of ignoring them.
3:53 The Great "upgrade" was not to use bricks but to use mortar on the field dry stone Wall sections. Usage of bricks was some 20 years later on the Wall.
4:04, 4:50 You have confused the different timeline. There was no Silk road in usage during the Ming Dynasty

Every household had to send one labourer to the site of the wall. They walk hundreds and hundres of miles under mounted guards to reach the building sites. These labourers had to procure, carry and cook their own meals. On the site they worked on stravation diet. Many died of exhaustion and beatings. There bodiesvwere bricked up into the wall.
