It's surprising how long it can take to realize these fundamentals on your own! A good coach like Jenna can fast track your work with this kind of guidance. Geometry exists in nature- it's underneath every structure and pattern- so finding ways to introduce geometric shapes into your art will help support any type of imagery, from abstract to representational!

Hi Jenna. I was wondering-since you use Prussian blue so often-if you are at all worried about it’s fugitive nature? Or if you’re careful not to use it in paintings to be hung?

Hi Jenna. I have a question regarding white watercolor paint versus white gouache. I understand why you would use gouache paint if you're wanting to put lighter color on top of something dark. But I was wondering why use white gouache over Whitewater to lighten up colors, for instance like you used in this tutorial. Is it just that that's what you have on hand or perhaps just a preference or is there some benefit to using gouache over of white watercolor? Also once the gouache has dried can it be rehydrated for use at a later date?
I also would like to say, I found you probably two months ago ish . You are hands-down the best teacher I have ever found and I've been painting on and off since I was a teenager.
I'm also really enjoying the Creative Recovery class. I'm using this weekend to catch up with what I wasn't able to keep up with during the week.
Thank you for all your hard work! Is very much appreciated!! 💜

Gouache can definitely be rehydrated after it has dried in the palette. It will last for years in the dried out state in fact and still be rehydratable. And to answer the other question about white watercolor, namely Chinese White or Titanium White watercolor, both of those are more transparent than white gouache, so if you want to cover dark paint you need to use white gouache. White watercolor is primarily intended to be used mixed with other colors to lighten them. Until recently that technique has been out of fashion, but if you go back to vintage watercolors you will find the painters of the 19th century for example used a lot of white. They called it “body color.”

I painted a pretty bird, but i am having trouble with the perspective, cuz i dont think a hummingbird in flight would have its tail under it like that comma. I'm trying to find a picture i can use. . . I kinda want the tail to go the other direction
