I use this in my cover band tons. I don't play it like this though. This video is still in 'guitar' mode. If I need this with a guitar sound, which I do lots, I play my amp with the synth9 on a separate full range speaker.
The offiical EHX demo might sound great but this one is more honest because you play it as a guitar synth in stead of just trying to prove how good it can imitate keyboards in a partybands hit repository. This thing sounds like a 360 Systems Slavedriver polyphonic guitar synth on full tilt. In the seventies that thing was unobtainably expensive and now at last we can get such sounds in a small pedal. It's how a guitar synth should sound; fat, bombastic and polyphonic with good pitch tracking. No sense in playing piano on a guitar! It does of course lay sloppy tuning and playing bare but that is also a matter of people not being used to synth tones producing off notes. In the past such a product would have led to a complete music sub-style as the first Roland guitar synths did (although they where less diverse and a lot less practical). Nowadays people are however so spoiled for choice they immediately start complaining about a lack of memory locations. They do not even get that this could be the missing link for the sort of Jimmy Hendrix Of The Guitar Synth breakthrough I've been waiting for since those early days. Not that anybody would be listening if it came at last, mind you.
I have the SYNTH 9 pedal and all I really want to is to dial in the ELP ‘Lucky Man’ Mini moog sound, but have never been able to really dial it in. I have tried it in the front of my pedal chain [into a 5150 head/cab] at the end of the pedal chain and direct with no other pedals - GTR--> SYNTH 9--> AMP Any thoughts or setting to share?
I remember really wanting this when it came out, then deciding against it. the sounds on it seem to clunky and not soft enough for ambient tones. more for a cover band that does some 80s songs. I keep looking at it though. also, and more importantly, I'd be afraid of using these deep tones through my guitar amps.
A bass amp/speaker isn't some mystical thing that only bass can go through and you'll ruin a guitar speaker if you play bass through it... it's all about watts. Just like you can listen to really deep bass rap through an iphone and it's not going to blow your iphone speaker. A speaker is just a speaker. For instance the classic Ampeg cab uses 10 inch speakers. And the biggest fender cab for the dual showman uses 15 inch speakers. As long as you're not running a 100 watt marshall into speakers rated for 20 watts you're fine. You can play bass and guitar through any amp as long as the cab/head isn't mismatched.
@@marcbrasse747 I got the Synth 9 maybe 3 months after this comment and I really like it but I am slowly learning the real keyboard and might take the Synth 9 pff my board lol
@@XxStonedImmaculatexX I'll be picking up my second hand one on wednesday. It might not be the ultimate guitar synth but I like it's wooly, massive 70-ies sound and have been looking for a good audio driven synth for years, even to sing into. I bought a TC Electronic Voice Synth years ago but hat was a bit of a dud because it was based on autotune. No bends there, only "Cher central station"! :-)
@@marcbrasse747 bro you wont be disappointed. First thing I thought about when I used mine was 70’s horror flicks! I definitely want to experiment in an unconventional way!
the BIGGEST thing I see with this pedal AND the superego is they come out, have several demo vids, then I don't see ANY REGULAR GUITARISTS using it on their vids. a very bad sign for this, the superego and mel9 for that matter
Because hardly anybody really gets guitar synths. They are a species on themselves and you should not simply use them to imitate keyboards. Nothing is as stupid as somebody badly playing piano music on a guitar. Neither should you use them to play typical guitar rock. Artists like Pat Metheny, Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp and Andy Summers however understood them.
Most guitarists can't think like a keyboard player, I know I can't, so this guitarist is probably a good example of how most players are going to sound with this pedal.
Or in a Live-Environment. We as a band lack a keyboarder, but want synth sounds. So One can make the synth sounds with guitar, than put it in the looper and overdub it, which can come very handy.

Thanks, best demo of this pedal. Going to get it soon!
Great vid - thx so much 👍😊🧚♀️
Thanks brother.
Very coool)))) I want this pedal))
which amp are you using, which amp do you think is best for crazy pedals like this?

I called this pedal when the key9 came out.

Idk if you figured out already but try with a bass, keyboard, voice amp or directly to the mixer. Guitar amps add too much dirt

Because you gotta add reverb to soften them up

Theres a bit of latency ?
PLAYED THE SHORTEST TIME ON THE ONE SETTING MOST USED IN MUSIC....WEIRD STUFF IS ONLY USED ON LIKE 2 TUNES IN A GIG
lol relax
Hi.can this pedal get a similar synth sound like the roland JV 1080 ? Thanks a lot...
Whats the difference between this and the Mono Synth?
It's polyphonic, dude!

Thanks for vid.Great run down of the sounds the unit can make.On another point I think your t-shirt needs a wash...
nice solo but no adsr, what about filters? its not synth its just patchs, and generaly it sound dusty , specialy for the bass sounds

I see bands in Brighton using the superego all the time it’s a very common pedal for certain kinds of bands
typical shred guitarist noodling does not showcase this pedal very well. slow TF down man.
Thanks for the demo but... am I the only one who finds the sound awful ?
This is by far the worst demo of this pedal to date.
Hee hee I love sunshine and booty odor.
Why don't you just demo a distortion pedal!
😎🎸
You need to be able to think like a keyboard player. This guitarist is not able to

Very true in both cases.
You are right, you can't noodling like crazy with this pedal, it doesn't sound good at all, this video is perfect example.
Yes he is , he did a fine job in the demo
If I wanted my guitar to sound like a synth, I should have started playing keyboards ;)
but if you're recording and want synth sounds, in the absence of taking ten years out to learn, or finding a keyboard player, its an easy solution..
