At last a demo playing some rhythm guitar, instead of just picking. Some of us actually like playing rhythm, but there's not enough demos. More please.
8:30 just cost me almost $300. Cool demo, i've been sort of leaning towards this pedal and this just pushed me over. I know this video is from 2017 but well done.
Fantastic demo!! I bought one of these cool modules and wasn’t sure if I should keep it and was on the fence about it but now I’m definitely going to keep it. I want to have my guitar sound as good as you have in the video. Superb demo!!!
Thanks for a genuine demo of this pedal as played by someone like myself.....hate those jazzed up demo's that are made to try to sell the device instead of how the thing actually works.....
Not a fan of the more over-the-top sounds this pedal produces, but I like a blend of the guitar signal with more subtle effects of this pedal for background ambiance. Like at 7:00, when he strums chords with the synth drones lower in the mix -- that I totally like, and I bet it would sound great with an acoustic guitar.
I have question. I've bought this pedal and it works pretty well except one setting. On option 6 (Solo Synth) even the guitar volume is set off it gives annoying noise. Do you have the same issue?
JJ, that was a great demo. I have the Mel 9 which is a great pedal. Now I'm going to get the Synth9. With both pedals, I can cover a lot of musical ground.
This is great demo, You’ve actually shown me a couple more useable settings on this pedal. I had my favorites and the ones i hardly ever used. Some of them sound much better almost pure wet, and some with a lot of dry……awesome demo
I just took delivery of mine and nearly shit my pants when I set it to number 1 and hit the low E string.....highly recommended....just go buy one!

Does the pedal come with a manual that details the nine synthesizers and their characteristics or quirks which are modeled on this device? If it does, does the manual feature some exemplary settings as well?
Love the sounds but having to adjust the knobs for every different sound is tedious for live use. Would have been awesome if it could at least save the knob settings for each synth
Any of the 9 series pedals you wanna always put first to get the clearest tracking. If you were to put a distortion before this, and turn the dry sound down leaving only the synth part, you will see it doesnt effect the sound of the emulated synth but it will have trouble tracking notes
If you want to run multiple effects cleanly EHX Tri-Parallel Mixer will do that for you! Blends in parallel instead of series, with 3 separate FX loops in/out... it's awesome!!
I listened to their mono synth demo on amazon it is about $150.00 It's mono so it's for single notes, not chording. They showcased; Tainted Love and Whip it Good as a couple of examples, and those were perfect.
@@bikersoncall I've got one and I wouldn't recommend it, it's very awkward to use being monophonic - unless your playing is super clean it keeps cutting out notes because of the slightest click or buzz. Polyphonic, like this one, is the way to go. I have the two Boss synth pedals and they are amazing !
@@PIPEHEAD Thanks. I have an octave pedal and octave 'thing' on my zoom g2, they track really well at pretty good speed. I have a Boss GX100 that is going back, absolutely horrid fake noises, it also has several octave patches, and none of them track unless playing extremely slow. I'll bet the actual synth pedals you're talking about do work well though, I'll have to check them out.
@@bikersoncall Yes, I love my Zoom G1Xon ! I bought a Boss SY 1 first, and after the EH mono synth it was a dream to use. The only reason I then got an SY 200 was because it's not possible to store patches on the SY 1. They both sound fantastic and track at super speed, I can't imagine anybody finding any kind of complaint with either of them. The reason I was watching this vid is that I've just ordered a Synth 9 today, so when I get it I'll let you know what I think.
I have the SYNTH 9 pedal and all I really want to is to dial in the ELP ‘Lucky Man’ Mini moog sound, but have never been able to really dial it in. I have tried it in the front of my pedal chain [into a 5150 head/cab] at the end of the pedal chain and direct with no other pedals - GTR--> SYNTH 9--> AMP Any thoughts or setting to share?
Hello. In this video ruclips.net/video/3qebnkmvjiw/видео.html at 9:45 the guitarrist plays Lucky Man. Before that, at 9:12 he explains the preset. I hope this can help you. I'm a die hard fan of ELP and I play guitar too. Good luck!
I feel the Mel9 is great as a tool for the building blocks of songwriting. The blended sound of mode 8 is also achievable using the strings function on the Mel9. Ive just bought the Synth 9 and think it may be more useful for embellishments, or alternatives to the classic ' guitar solo' sound. Its easy to use, but NOT easy to master :-)
Great demo for sure ! I think hearing Demos I like the Mel9 much better. Take a deep dive and get a real sythn . I got a killer Moog Polyphonic Memorymoog , unbelievable the sounds and not relegated to one sound ( I’m stil paying for it , but you can’t beat the original Moog
There's no layering on individual 9 pedals but if you end up buying more than one & want to combine different sounds together EHX Tri-Parallel Mixer will do that for you! Blends in parallel instead of series, with 3 separate FX loops in/out... it's awesome!!
I have the B9 and I'd say that the strings you use would have no impact on the usability of pedals like this. The main 'requirement' if you want to call it that for these pedals, is that you have a decent bridge pickup because that's EHX's recommendation for using them. Guitar > EHX 9 > Other Pedals > Front of amp. Oh and a compressor pedal really helps when using the '9' pedals so after much trial & error I found the best way of connecting my B9 was to go Guitar > Compressor > EHX 9 > Overdrive/Distortion > Front of amp, and put any other effects in the amps effects loop, select the bridge pickup and away you go. 👍
I ended up sending this back....although impressive at first, I soon came to realize I had no use for it and it became a play thing for when I was bored, I ordered the Mel 9 instead which is better suited to my needs.
Arthur Summers well personally my band plays a lot of covers from the 80s, and it allows us to cover songs from depeche mode and new order without having to shell out extra money for a synth.
Why not use some examples people know? Mr Crowley or Jump or Final Countdown or any popular 80s Wang Chung / men at work /safety dance etc list is endless. Still a cool review but sorta pointless.
Why? Can you expand on that? I get that you may not like it, but it helps if you can state why & your thoughts. Are you a keyboard player? Although not everyone's cup of tea, but boring, it isn't. It has plenty of different effects, along with electric string type sounds which sounded great with his strumming (go to 6:58 mins). I think it could help if you lacked synth keys in your band. It would never be as good as a synth keyboard, but it's a great bit of technology.
How are your power sources? No daisy chains or other dubious arrangements? You notice that they often provide their own adaptors; I've had issues with some of their more complex circuits with noise and other undesirable responses.I've used their stuff for years, but along with the mass production and general affordability, there are sometimes problems with headroom, noise floor, and powering.Modulation shouldn't be boosting noise levels like other effects would, so I'd assume it's a lack of isolation in the power source between the two effects.

This is exactly the kind of demo I was looking for! Thank you so much!
helpful review. One of the best about this pedal. Congrats!
Best review of this pedal yet! Definitely making me want one now... THANKS!
7:06 that sounds amazing for some nice thick extra layering
I've been waiting alot for this
It's nice to see a demo of this pedal where someone combines the dry and synth levels instead of leaving the dry signal all the way down.
8:30 just cost me almost $300. Cool demo, i've been sort of leaning towards this pedal and this just pushed me over. I know this video is from 2017 but well done.

Absolutely love this pedal, going on the Xmas list :)
Thanks for the demo brother.

Beverly Hills Cop and some Porcupine Tree!

good pedal to make sega genesis arcade music

EHX 9 series is fantastic! If I could afford to get them all I would have no need for a keyboard player 😂

Emerson Lake and Palmer in a box!
Hm. I would suggest the Boss SY1 for warmer sounds and more options. This one sounds boxy in comparison.
Love this thing.
I wish someone would do pinch harmonics demo with one of these
Love the sounds but having to adjust the knobs for every different sound is tedious for live use. Would have been awesome if it could at least save the knob settings for each synth

why not blending a few boxes on at the same time ?
EHX Tri-Parallel Mixer will do that for you!

Where would you put this in the pedal chain with chorus and drive?
First after the guitar I guess

I gave up and just use a slide whistle with an electric mistress or chorus.
Goed gedaan. Bedankt.
What chords are you playing in Mode: 8? If you don't mind my asking.
Have been debating on synth9 vs mel9 on which to get first. Mode 8 by itself justifies the synth9 first

Will it work with an acoustic/electric? Will it track good with fingerpicking?
Should do, but you should try it out at a local music store if you can
@@aydenmarrocco2716 Thanks bro, but the question was a year ago. I did buy it, and it works great with my acoustic/electric.

Great buy for you but for those of us with zero keyboard skills things like this, the Boss SY300 and others are great substitutes.

Does anyone remember the name of the song he plays in the intro?

its Harold Faltermeyer with Axel F

DON'T buy one of these - a Boss SY 1 with an expression pedal costs the same, and is infinitely better. Take my word for it ..............
Sounds like a cheap travesty. I'd rather get that lil synth off Ross Gellar on the stairway..
Pouhaaaa ....
A roland gK will do the job but better
Except that this actually tracks well and is usable with any guitar and likewise, you don't need to apply it permanently to a guitar.
this is the shit

Arthur Summers well personally my band plays a lot of covers from the 80s, and it allows us to cover songs from depeche mode and new order without having to shell out extra money for a synth.
I love the synth sounds but the guitar is my main instrument. Having the guitar to play and hearing a killer synth is awesome.
there may be an instance where a synth sound is required and there is no keyboard player in the band?
Chris Davies my perspective comes from being a hobbyist musician only though.
perhaps someone who considers themselves a musician, not just a guitarist?
