    I've had this for a few years now. I've been looking at newer vocoders but there isn't anything as original sounding or as efficient as the V256. Excellent video and thumbs up on how well you impart knowledge. What I did find was the TC Helicon Talk box which has a new take on talk box's with extras you didn't know you wanted. I have a Porta One so yeah we are subscribed. Oh yeah I use 30 - 60 min cassettes which save time with RWD ad FF. Well done and carry on!

      💯 that’s where i’m at. honestly these days i view my computer in music as a powerful recording and editing machine but i prefer dedicated hardware for creativity.
      some people make amazing music with software instruments. it’s MY limitation, no judgement, but they do nothing for me. i’ve been listening to Pat Metheny interviews lately and he’s in the camp of “YES AND BOTH” when it comes to music tech

You reminded me that I have one too, different brand, and haven’t used it once. Really cool weird song! I like weird and funky stuff like that. It would be cool to maybe use this on found spoken word samples from old films and radio... oh man and using some endless delay with some deep bass rhythms .... 😮

    woooow... currently I only have the Boss RC505 with a vocoder effect in there... but it misses many of the festures of the V256, e.g. it doesnt generate it's own carrier, the carrier is taken from one of the 5 tracks which must play something otherwise the RC505 vocoder effect does just nothing. Will try out the v256 defintively and keep it if so nice. One bonus for the v256 is it's little size compared to the Roland VT4. Nearly the same capabilites, but twice that size because it has faders and not turning knobs. Since the VT4 is not available the V256 would be my favorite. Thanks for the demo... I already own the POG2 of EHX, the V256 would be a nice addition.

    • @MadeOnTape

      hey there! Absolutely! Going in or coming out. I purposefully kept these examples pretty raw, but I would put reverb after the signal... Also, the bass benefits from some kind of drive or synthesis, and I think in this example I'm using an octaver. Thanks for watching!

  • @aberrant_convolution

    Awesome vid! I probably missed it and went back and jumped around a bit, but am just curious how the vocoder affects the instruments with your voice, without hearing your voice? Is that with instrument mode or do you have it in the effect send? Sorry if that’s in there and I missed it, thanks for another great vid, Chris!

    • @MadeOnTape
      @MadeOnTape  3 года назад +1

      great question! I probably didn't make that clear enough. When you see hear me singing AND hear the vocoder, that should give some idea of how it works:
      it's not that the vocoder affects the instruments with my voice, but kind of the opposite. The instrument sends a signal to the vocoder, or pitch, and my voice makes the sound when I sing.
      also, did you check out the section where I use the BLEND knob? when I was recording with instruments, BLEND was ALL the way clockwise, so no dry vocal signal was getting through to the tape.
      hopefully this makes sense. I feel like I didn't do a good job at the fundamentals on this one! Might have to do another simpler demonstration down the road. Cheers!

    Hi,
    I connected my v256 to my Roland MV-1. The Groovebox plays a complete groove with drums, bass, pads and so on. If I turn the v256 to instrument ctrl, my voice jumps from deep to high like gone crazy. If I mute differenz voices, the vocoder effect gets better, but stays mono (a single voice) - also, if the MV-1 plays chords. Could you please teach me how to get the vocoder voice playing chords following the cords my groovebox plays? Thanks!

    can this effect be used on just the instrument line without the need for a vocal performance ran thru with a mic? I’m asking because i’d like to apply a vocoder effect to an EWI? so, can you plug an EWI (or any other instrument) into the pedal and get the effect without a mic plugged in? pretty hard to play an EWI and sing at the same time.

    • @MadeOnTape
      @MadeOnTape  3 года назад +2

      this is a great question. Maybe someone can correct me, but I don't think that's possible with a vocoder. The way it works is that the voice/mic acts as both a gate opener and informs the shape of the sound coming out. I could be wrong! maybe get a unit, try it out, and return it if it doesn't work the way you're hoping? cheers! thanks for watching!

  • @DrPickleful

    I just picked up this vocoder and I'm having a pretty hard time using it, granted I don't have a lot of the equipment that you probably need to really run with this thing.
    But I'm having a hard time getting my synth to control to tone of my voice, so I was wondering if there's a way to design a midi track in Ableton with the tone I want and then run that into the vocoder with my voice and then back into the computer? That's probably very confusing lol and I'm overall not smart enough for this

    • @MadeOnTape
      @MadeOnTape  3 года назад

      hey you're all good! it's not the most intuitive piece of music gear by a long shot:
      i've noticed that my condenser, aka a sensitive mic, works best, even on high gain. what kind of mic are you using?
      I have more questions but want to stay organized. You'll get it! (also, I'm not smart when it comes to midi, but you need an audio signal being sent to the Vocoder, not a midi signal)

    • @DrPickleful
      @DrPickleful 3 года назад +1

      @@MadeOnTape I just picked up a condenser mic, so I'll be playing with that as well. Do you think a midi track could be turned into an audio track that the v256 could read as pitch?
