I have this pedal and it's just absolutely mental just how deep you can dive in to this thing. I have to look up videos like this one just to begin to approach each effect properly. Worth every penny.
Thanks for posting this demo. There are no other VE-500 videos out there worth a thin dime. I bought one on brand trust but this is the first thing I’ve seen online that actually makes me feel happy I bought it. I hope everybody does a review/demo of this product. The sounds are exquisite, but there are a lot of parameters and menus that need explaining!
true man, there are almost no ressources about this pedal, i think the pricetag has something to do with it, although doesn't seem to be a problem for TC Helicon, i own the Voicelive 3 also, and while i love the VE-500, the subtle pitch correction of the Voicelive is actually usable, i hope Boss fixes their PC algorithm it's soooo buggy !
OMG I was expecting some standard gear review with like a medium singer/player but you my man really knocked it out of the park! If I had no interest in this pedal or no idea about any of that stuff, it would still have been worth it. :)
Just finished video , had to register a second comment to display full breadth of my appreciation , this is just phenomenal. Thank you for this content may God shine into your heart and protect you and your family always 🤘🏻#aliensuperpowers
Now that's a proper demo. Love your energy bro! You were clearly having lots of fun. And the music is great too, really crazy good stuff. Keep it up! All the best
Mine just came in today and replaces a TC Helicon Voicelive Play. Brought it to my rehearsal tonight and the first thing I notices was the clarity that the Helicon doesn't have. Then I kicked in the vocoder. Way too much fund. I do about 65% of the vocals in my duo and a smaller amount in my band but I'm active in all the backups. Sometimes you have to cheat to get the sounds....it's all worth it in the end.
Hi Brian. Is this easier to program than the TC? Also ... now that you've had it for awhile ... any tips to get rolling with it? I play in a cover band btw so live performance tips would be much appreciated. Thank you!
I think you just convinced me no other pedal will do! I speak as someone who plays in a covers/function band - the ability to get that voicebox/vocoder Livin' on a prayer/Get Lucky thing is worth the price on its own. Put that together with harmonies and midi control makes it a no-brainer for my solo gigs as well. Thanks - great demo.
Wow thanks for this video, amazing playing dude... you smashed it! :) I was thinking of buying the VE500 just to add some subtle harmonies and reverbs to my vocals without having to connect my guitar through it... but now that i've seen the vocoder capabilities... i'm def gonna have to connect my guitar through it...although I think i won't make it sound as amazing as you do! Thanks again! :)
The vocoder in this pedal is a hidden beast. It is insanely flexible, and makes a lot of different sounds. And it sounds punchier than cheaper stomp boxes. I haven't been able to find anything that can hold a candle to it... have been performing livde with it (using a synth as the instrument source) for 4 years now. Also shines in the studio.
Have you always been this "excited" in lifE? :) hahaha - seen you in many vids and you're always smiling! All the best brother. To answer your question, i'm a singer/guitarist so i've JUST got one FINALLY! Stay safe bro
Very nice demo, thanks. I also sing and play guitar in our band. I use a Boss VE-20 in combination with the EHX V257 (for vocoder), but it is a real hussle to do the stepdance when switching during liveperformance. I mean, i have a set-up that works, but man, this looks like it's soooo much easier, plus many more parameters to adjust, etc.. You got me on this thing....
Hey Jay. My name is, Lelon. I am a guitarist/singer. I just recently purchased the Boss VE-500. I can’t wait to incorporate it into my music/band. Thank you for the awesome demo that inspired me to buy it.
Solo singer/guitarist here; these are fun tricks to have in one's bag. I use the TC Helicon stuff and it is killer; but I'm always on the hunt. Thanks for another great demo, brother!☮💓🎸🎶
I already have the VO-1. Is there a reason for me switch to VE-500 if i only want the vocoder feature? Can you still add any other effects to the vocoder like reverb or any effects that you already have in the VE-500?
Question- Where to place the VE-500 in the chain when finally integrating this pedal to my combined Acoustic/Electric Guitar PedalBoard? Any suggestions?
can you trigger it from a keyboard so that i senses the key? I want to sing my own choirs. Also does it have a vocoder function that just adds vocoder to the voice, to my voice, without needing any instrument to trigger the vocoder?
Hi Jay found your page...I love it. I am a guitarist / vocalist...Used to do the band thing as a bassplayer, but now soloist...easier to move. Can this BOSS VE500 do what the BOSS VE 8 can do, except with the vocoder added? Or, are they two different pieces of equipment? Thanks for the great demo on the Vocoder though...WOW!
Hi Jay, this demo is the best demo/ tutorial I have seen on the VE-500 bar none - thank you! I have a couple of questions if you could help please? 1 How do you eliminate/ minimise your original voice input to the mic? So for instance I have used the reduced octave function but in my recording (direct line out) you can still hear my actual vocals slightly. 2 I am playing with preset 9 and added a harmony, but I only want the harmony to happen when I push the harmony pedal. Currently it is putting a harmony on even when the red light is off, and then when I press the button I get harmony plus the preset effect if that makes sense. I want my 'off' vocal to be plain (just some reverb, no harmony) and then the 'on' vocal to have the preset fx plus harmony (this part is working fine). I've subscribed to your channel, keep up the great content! 😄
TheHarlowMedia unfortunately I’ve not found such a option. If you want to hear only the vocoder you’ve to mute your amp (a volume pedal will do the job).
That was a great demo Jay! I recently got one but I haven't had the time to play with it. What I discovered when I used the vocoder is that this specific effect sound comes from the "thru" and not from the XLR like all the other effects. I didn't see any option to change that behavior and the Manual is not very clear about it. In this demo you made, was the vocoder coming out from the "thru" or did you find a way to address it to the main XLR? Thanks in advance and this was an awesome demo.
@@JayLeonardJ Jay, great video. Can you expand on the signal chain? I'm seeing the VE-500 useful as a vocoder for certain songs (or portions of songs) like you use it, but also as a vocal processor (de-esser, compression, harmony, etc.) for other songs. In this case, it seems you would want the vocoder type stuff running through your guitar amp as well as FoH, but the just the vocal processor stuff running through FoH only. Thoughts?
Cool video. I want to plug this into my Octatrack...do i need to play an instrument in order for the vocoder to follow my vocals? And you should’ve demoed the rest of the Fx.
Fun demo. Two things. I'm surprised you didn't do a little of Frampton, Do You Feel Like We Do. The other is, if you had fun with this, you really, really would have lots of fun with the Korg Miku Pedal. Hard to find now though. Peace.
Have you tried the controlling tap tempo with an external pedal? I've got it changing the tempo, but seconds later it reverts to 120 BPM? I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that it's a preset ? Any insights?
There is no video with a keyboard and a VE-500. The SAME excellent results we see with your performance & your guitar, can be achieved with a keyboard or not? Thanks for the great video!
@@monkeymanford8608 I've been wondering this as well. I play keys and I've had my unit for about a year. I have not tried the Midi in yet but it does not seem to work through the instrument in Jack. The manual says if your using anything other than guitar you have to tell it what key your in for each specific song. I'm getting a midi cable soon to see if it works that way.
@@Musical.Maze.1 Hi, yes it seems too. I hook my midi cable from the out port on the keyboard to the midi port on the box. Make sure you have your midi or daw signal set to on, on the keyboard and you should be good to go.
Really?! You've cost me so much in music equipment for guitar with good videos. Now, here we go again. Lol. "I'm done buying gear" I said. Apparently not.

That first demo you did was INSANE! Great work
Killer demo! You didn't lose me even for a second. Was fun watching you having fun if that makes any since.
Very nice playing! Good luck🌟

So much better than "this is vocoder, this is a vocoder".
