Looks good... My shifter on my buggy project is finicky too, I used a Polaris Trail Boss transmission so I have a low high and a reverse, I think it's smart to have a reverse, makes trail riding a lot more fun never having to get off and push it backward..
Hey nice build! How did you connect the front part of the engine frame to the cart frame? My neighbor used a hinds joint on the front with his build. My build has the engine on the cart frame to one side. With a jack shaft from the engine to the drive side of the torque converter. I attached the driven side straight to the trans and then went to the axel with a chain from the trans. So i use a tensioner but only one chain in my process. Sometimes when gassing in reverse it jumps teeth from axel wrap. I been thinking of a design similar to what i see here. But how to attach the trans directly to the axel? So that there are no chains and its belt driven only more like a factory built gas cart. Thanks for the video. I need to upload one of my cart set up.

I have a Trail Blazer transmission.....they are stout
Yeah got to have reverse. Not even worth the build without that. I like the H/L aspect as well. 3 2 1 N R would be fun too.

I built a sub frame welded to the rear axle.So the engine, jackshaft and transmission move together
